More ignorant “clinger” BS
Remember back during the 2008 presidential campaign, the soon-to-be president Barack Obama told Americans how the people who oppose him “get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them”? Well, welcome to the 2015 version. Adam Winkler, some pointy-headed leftist professor, writes in the Washington Post The NRA will fall. It’s inevitable. To prove it, he leans heavily on demographics;
The core of the NRA’s support comes from white, rural and relatively less educated voters. This demographic is currently influential in politics but clearly on the wane. While the decline of white, rural, less educated Americans is generally well known, less often recognized is what this means for gun legislation.
[…]
Polls show that whites tend to favor gun rights over gun control by a significant margin (57 percent to 40 percent). Yet whites, who comprise 63 percent of the population today, won’t be in the majority for long. Racial minorities are soon to be a majority, and they are the nation’s strongest supporters of strict gun laws.
Um, Adam, you arrogant, pompous blowhard, you forgot to mention about how we cling to our God, and eat dirt. Most of the people I know who support the Second Amendment are pretty educated…in fact, I even know some people of color who are fairly well-educated and understand the Second Amendment and expect the government to protect our rights. In fact the people I know who happen to be other-than-white are educated enough to know when they’re being pigeon-holed by pointy-headed know-it-alls.
I’d suggest that people who don’t understand the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are less educated than those who do understand that the Bill of Rights was written to protect the minority from an ignorant majority and an overbearing government.
The people who I know that support the Second Amendment of the US Constitution only want to defend their families. Look at our “feel good stories” today. There were nine instances of private citizens who couldn’t wait for the police to arrive to rescue them from harm this morning. Nine people who were confronted by criminals with weapons, criminals who won’t bother with background checks when they buy their own weapon in a back alley or a dark parking lot.
You have to wonder why, Mr. Academic would want to deny these people the means with which to defend their own right to be free of fear. The NRA and the other gun owner organizations protect the Second Amendment for those victims. Academia, on the other hand are doing their best to undermine personal security.

This ignorant twit is more like Klingons circling Uranus.
If Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus, then Conservatives are from Neptune and liberals are from Uranus!! 😀
This clown clings to balls.
A lot by the looks of him.
Assclown.
The funny thing is that these academics, for all their supposed smarts, don’t get it: They think all this power and influence comes FROM the NRA.
WRONG!
The power and influence comes from the number of people in the US who own guns and who identify with gun owners.
To put it another way, if every liberal wet dream fantasy came through and the NRA disappeared into a puff of smoke tomorrow, nothing would change politically and another organization would simply take the place of the NRA.
Liberals love to talk about ‘grass roots’ movements (that are really hierarchical, top-down organizations) but the NRA and gun owner’s are the true ‘bottom up’ grass roots movement.
All their power comes from the fact that people who own guns tend to not like people who want to take those guns away, and gun owners vote.
I love the whole myth of people that live in flyover country are uneducated. I hope they keep believing their own bullshit, until it hurts.
He forgot to mention the small group that pay taxes so other can have an EBT card.
So according to this flatlander, “rural” folk like me tend to be less educated? Everybody in my little hometown has a high school diploma (no GEDs here!), almost all of us have had some college, and most–including me–have college degrees.
Shall we compare that average with those inner-city DMZ neighborhoods where the Glorious Leader enjoys such popularity and people ridiculously equate the NRA with the KKK? How many residents there have even finished high school? How many are even functionally literate?
Oh, I could have so much fun with this self-righteous flatlander face-to-face. So many different ways that I could demonstrate his bigotry…
Speaking of the KKK, let’s not forget that democrats owned the show in the South during the peak heydays of that outfit!
He might be shocked to find that some liberals support gun rights, even Bernie Sanders understands gun rights…it’s not just a liberal/conservative thing it’s a basic human rights thing and some folks on the liberal left get that part of the equation and understand it well.
Now he’s correct that I don’t have an Ivy League degree, but oddly enough I’m still able to function and run a profitable business, volunteer in an organization that creates a competitive sports program for 6,000 kids…mentor young officials on a career path involving major league sports officiating and donating money to local charities….I’m one of the many great unwashed bumpkins….who understand we are in fact the nation, not those elitist pricks who think they know what’s best for us and intend to cram it down our throats whether we want it or not….
Heinlein gets a lot of things wrong, but he gets an equal amount amazingly right in my opinion….this quote comes to mind:
The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort.
Count me among the curmudgeons, I would be honored to be their brethren.
One might say you’re able to function as a productive member of society is almost certainly due to the fact that you DO NOT have an Ivy College degree, VOV. With the possible – and, I stress, possible – exception of Yale, the Ivy League has IMO been out to lunch since at least the 1970s.
Heinlein’s quote is good. But I prefer these three.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”
— Samuel Adams
“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”
— Benjamin Franklin
“False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it. . . The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
— Cesare Bonesana Beccaria (1738 – 1794), in On Crimes and Punishment, 1764
I’ve got a law degree. I have been amazed by the contempt some lawyers demonstrate for ordinary people. Our system of laws is set up so that ordinary people decide who will lead our country as well as many other matters, including who will or will not go to jail. And yet, these people think that ordinary people are somehow incapable of making weighty decisions.
If ordinary people are so damn stupid, why let them vote? Why put them on juries?
Other countries, such as China and Iran, have the intellectual betters of the country decide who can and cannot run for office. And, of course, most of the rest of the world does not have juries. Not many Americans would trade for those systems.
I recall a case that I partially observed shortly out of law school, where lead counsel was certain he was going to “destroy” a witness on the stand. This witness was the CEO of a small company in a civil matter. Counsel’s cross-examination did nothing whatsoever to shake the credibility of a man who was knowledgeable and straightforward.
Counsel lost. I asked one of his minions about that, later, who said “We polled the jury, and they found every hole in our case.”
The linked article says more about the prejudices of the author than anything pertinent about his chosen topic.
Meanwhile, I will just leave this, here.

Thanks for the video, valerie.
To the lady in the video: stay alert, stay safe, stay free.
“I have been amazed by the contempt some lawyers demonstrate for ordinary people.” I guess that makes lawyers extraordinary and I suppose that’s true. On the whole, lawyers are vile, contemptible, selfish, egocentric, and intellectually dishonest. Those are some extraordinary group characteristics not shared by ordinary folk.
Oh, well, he’s entitled to his opinion, isn’t he? It’s not HIS fault he never steps outside his ivory tower, is it now? And since people in my neighborhood either have kids in college or are planning to send them to college, I would not hesitate to say that these kids are or will be better educated than Winler, by a long shot.
Oh, did you guys know that a CDL Class A OTR driver averages $270,000 a year? Does anyone here think Winkler makes that kind of dough? Naw, me, neither.
I used to be an OTR Driver myself, and pasty-puss Winkler reminds me of some of the Dispatchers and Supervisors I worked for. Those critters would get mad while they yelled and cussed like a PO’ed Drill Sergeant over the phone, but every time I met them face to face they were human hamsters! Pasty-puss Winkler is the type that will shrivel up and soil themselves any time the SHTF and later they’ll talk shit about those who kept their head on straight and did something!
He got the white part in describing me correct. The rest, not so much.
Someone needs to explain to this knucklehead that time inside academia does not always correlate to smarts. In fact, sometimes quite the opposite is true, both inside and outside the campus.
What Poindexter here is missing from his educated little brain is that there is no correlation between education and intelligence. You can be book smart and real world stupid, which he demonstrates so well.
Where do these guys get their stats from?? I’m a Democrat and a gun owner!! Try coming out of the Country Club for awhile and get the opinion of the people and not your friends in the club. He must have led a sheltered life, I can’t wait for the police when I need help now!!
There … I fixed it for you.

Another sniveling snotnosed liberal candyass gloats about how right he thinks he is. I’m sure he sneers while thinking about rural Folks in what he calls “Flyover Country”, but I say “DON’T TALK WITH YOUR MOUTH FULL, SHITHEAD!!”, I’m sure he lives in some gated community all nicely insulated from minority folks except for the ones he hires at dirt cheap wages for yard work and domestic chores while patting himself on his pasty, soft, flabby back for hiring them at all. Put a pasty little cotton candyass like him outside in the woods on his own, and I’m sure that he’d be bawling his head off before dusk, put him in a situation where he has to survive by his own wits, and he’d collapse so fast anyone seeing it would think he imploded! Fuck him and his ilk!
Racial minorities are soon to be a majority, and they are the nation’s strongest supporters of strict gun laws
I assume he had a point in there somewhere but my GPS conked out on me while I was trying to find it.
Funny how there they also commit the lion’s share of crimes, too.
As someone said, there are two gun cultures – one is the law-abiding NRA types, and the other is the gangbanging thug types. Almost all the gun crime comes from the latter group. NYC says that almost all of their gun crime is committed by a core group of maybe 200-300 people…..so therefore they disarm everyone else and decline to prosecute gun violations on that group. Now THAT is liberal logic in action!
Liberals have minds like concrete – permanently set and all mixed up! 😀
I am amazed on a daily basis by the amount of people in this nation that believe that the 2nd Amendment is any less important than any of the other guaranteed rights. People like this asshole professor and others like him would be shocked to find out that after guns it is the intellectuals that purged next…along with that pesky 1st Amendment guarantee.
You mean like what Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Castro did?
What I glean from the professor’s piece is:
1) Those who haven’t suffered college re-education camp can still think clearly about the 2nd Amendment; and
2) Those who live in cities mistake gun crime with legal gun ownership and would hasten to have all guns confiscated, in the mistaken belief that doing so would render them safer.
Look at the countries that have banned and confiscated guns.
Australia and Britain both have had sharp increases in crime because people are unable to defend themselves with a firearm.
Armed robbery in Australia has gone up 30% since they banned guns.
Another thing is that more and more women are buying firearms and joining the NRA, more blacks are also doing the same and I mean families of blacks because they are sick of the crime int heir neighborhoods.
90% of all black murders are committed by other blacks. They are committing genocide by themselves. toss in the fact that in NYC 60% of all black babies are killed by abortion and you have a real mess.
But, as I said earlier in another post.
They voted for it, let them live in it.
Yeah, listening to pinheads like this is equal to getting a “perils of unprotected sex” lecture from a street corner prostitute.
That’s unfair to the hooker, Master Chief. At least she has the credibility that comes from personal experience with the subject matter.
What is this “street corner prostitute” you speak of?
I have read about such people in my history books, but prostitution was outlawed way before my time, and hence, there is no prostitution anymore. Now, if we could only outlaw guns…
HEY, for that matter, cocaine, heroin and crystal meth are illegal as well. Cant find any of that anywhere nowadays, or can you? /sarc
“When gun violence is on your television news every night and police are commonplace, people may come to view guns more as a threat than a savior.” Put the first part of that aside and we’re left with, ‘When police are commonplace, people may come to view guns more as a threat than a savior.” Anybody have a clue? I certainly don’t.
don’t tell the Hispanics here in Tucson that they love gun control they will freak out… the most pro gun people I’ve ever seen and they aren’t white
The exception is that Hispanic guy with the mustache, who will not be mentioned by name. You know who I mean
Winkler is one of those California limousine liberals you would probably be tempted to shove into a swimming pool at a party. His long-winded screed in the Washington Post pretty much boils down to this: The 2nd Amendment should be repealed because the only people who support it are redneck white trash living in a double-wide somewhere up-hollow who aren’t going to be around much longer anyway. Or something.
At the risk of going off-topic, it might also be pointed out that Winkler is using faulty demographic evidence in his argument. There are two key trends the media tends to get wrong, something not normally recognized unless you can wrap your head around how census data is counted, and how the definition of standard metropolitan statistical areas have shifted over time.
The reality is that about 20 percent of Americans are urban, 20 percent are rural, and the remainder live in what is broadly defined as suburban/ex-urban. Something you won’t normally read about in the New York Times or Washington Post. There is no broad trend indicating people are moving into urban cores.
Another consideration is that all the big swingin’ data in the aggregate tends to be irrelevant when things are considered at a local level. None of the demographic stuff is evenly distributed. For example, the city of Detroit might have serious economic problems, but the city of Nashville is generally considered by most metrics to be doing just fine.
Such on-the-ground differences in local conditions, at least it seems to me, are a strong argument for keeping broad federal control in check. The conflict isn’t just about gun control; the currents run much deeper than that.
Pasty-skinned, flabby pus-brained snooty pinky-in-the-air liberals like pasty-puss Winkler nearly always think that the opinions and beliefs of people outside of places like NYC, Beverly Hills and San Foo-foo are totally irrelevant because to them, only illiterate peasants live and work there and they believe that everyone outside of their cliques ought to grovel in front of them because of what they believe and say. FUCK ‘EM ALL!
Doncha just love it when a white guy pretends to speak for folks who aren’t white? Here’s a news flash for ya, silly boy – it’s possible that you have no idea what ANYbody thinks or opines about, well, anything.
What he’s REALLY saying is that there are no non-whites articulate enough to express their ideas publicly. Evidently he thinks he must do it for all of them and/or us.
What an insult to all Americans of every imaginable ethic origin, gender, age, or any other demographic category one might choose.
Let me guess – by educated, he means those who agree with him? Everyone else is uneducated?
I’m NRA and GOA, and he misses the point. NRA membership is around 5 million folks, and is the largest civil rights organization in the US. But that isn’t the real issue.
There’s an estimated* 70 million firearms owners here, many owning multiple weapons. ~cough~ NRA fails? So what, its a small percentage of American firearms owners.
The race card is played out, and the left is desperately looking for the next buzz word. That word is “Terrorist” and they are trying to affix it to the NRA.
Good luck with that.
*Estimates vary, this is the most consistent number I’ve seen. Pays your money and takes your chances.
Fuck him… I wonder why these turd-wranging ass-mongers always leave out that the demographic they always point out as being ignorant, violent buffoons.. the NRA Supporting, Rural Whites are the EXACT OPPOSITE of those who commit the most violent gun crimes?
This guy…
Maybe the drop in crime is due to more of us potential victims being armed?
One stat this guy didn’t take into consideration; millennials. I go to community college up in the leftist haven of CT. The late-teens early-twenties kids are uber jaded due to the Snowden revelations, NSA, Sandy Hook and 9/11 conspiracy theories. This jackoff would probably shit himself over the views of young adults. They lean pretty damn libertarian or at least know that the system is full of asshats and shit mongers. They grew up with the fundamentalist terror threats and would rather be armed, jic. Hell, Sandy Hook is pretty damn close, many know families involved, and *still* finding someone that is actually verbal about being ‘pro gun control’ is the exception.
But this guy needs to keep writing, I find his little diatribe about how a civilly-minded third of the country he, presumably, loves are evil, aging, unintelligent (*coughwhitecough*) hicks. Keep up the great work.
Note: I just realized that I unintentionally used the literary device, the cough, and the word ‘monger’ from the two previous posts. I hadn’t scrolled down that far, I swear.
I’ll be knocking out push-ups until told otherwise.
I noticed his approach is Argumentum ad populum, which is something a lot of anti gun people love to use.
Hell with it; if you think you and your kind have the numbers on your side, Winkler, go ahead and try to get rid of the Second Amendment. I’d avoid lumber yards and rope factories though.
Another over educated white man, speaking for and about masses of people he knows nothing about.
