Tuesday morning feel good stories

| October 20, 2015

Marine_7002 and UpNorth send us a link to the story that happened in a Detroit, Michigan church where a man tried to attack the pastor with a brick because the man thought the pastor had impregnated his wife. The pastor pulled out his gun and made the man DRT (dead right there).

AW1Ed sends us a story from El Reno, Oklahoma where three people forced their way onto a man’s property despite his warnings to the contrary. When they assaulted one of his family members, the homeowner tried to intervene, he was shot for his trouble, so he returned fire and put two DRTs on the scorecard this morning.

In Meridian, Mississippi, a woman heard someone trying to break into her home. When he made it inside, she didn’t recognize him, so she plugged him. He stumbled out of the house and collapsed on the sidewalk outside. Another DRT.

In West Plains, Missouri, a man broke into the home of an eighty-year-old woman and her grandson ventilated the intruder twice. He’s in critical condition at the hospital while police make arrangements for his long-term accommodations.

In Fort Wayne, Indiana two men forced their way into an apartment forcing the three residents to retreat to a bedroom where they tried to barracade the door. One of the armed intruders fired a gun through the door barely missing one of the three inside the room. When they finally got through the door, one of the victims drilled one of the intruders, the other fled the scene at a high rate of speed, probably messing his drawers during his own retreat. The punctured intruder is in critical condition. No one else was injured.

In Cole County, Missouri, a homeowner chased an intruder who was armed with a knife from his home and held him at gunpoint for the police.

In White Plains, Maryland, an armed homeowner ran off two intruders who were bringing a duffelbag containing a baseball bat, a crowbar, gloves, rope, and duct tape to his house. Police found the pair and prepared overnight sleeping arrangements for them with Tiny and Thor.

In Chesapeake, Virginia, Traymon Richardson tried to rob a young woman with his own handgun, but a struggle ensued and the lady shot Traymon DRT.

A 73-year-old man shot a younger intruder in the knee in San Francisco and then dragged the man out to the curb with the rest of the trash for police to pick up..

Not a bad morning for the forces of good in our struggle against evil.

It seems the national percentage of DRT is improving exponentially, which is a good thing!

It does look like the media is covering these instances a bit more. I’m still sad that they insist on giving wall-to-wall coverage to mass murderers, but… well… if it bleeds, it leads.

Homeowners w/ guns in Peoples Republik of Murderland & San Francisko – just wow! The gun grabbing pols won’t stand for this…confiscate those instruments of death!

UpNorth

Califruitsandnuts Lt. Governor is doing his best to inhibit the defensive use of firearms, again. He wants a background check each time one tries to buy ammo. Why do liberals hate their own citizens? Folks will go buy their ammo in neighboring states.

UpNorth

The Lt Guv also wants everyone to turn in “large capacity” magazines.
The good people of Califruitsnnutz should line up to do so, right behind the Crips, Bloods and Latin Kings.

Roger in Republic

Nevada will start building Drive thru Ammo stores at all border crossings. They never miss a chance make a buck off the Californios.

David

usedtabe you did have to register ammo sales, I believe due to GCA ’68. The Feds stopped it because using the millions of data points collected and the millions of dollars administering it, they used all that info to solve exactly zero crimes.

sj

Point of Order! Shouldn’t the Meridian, Mississippi one be a DOT rather than a DRT?

Hondo

Meh – sidewalk outside the crime scene is close enough I wouldn’t quibble. The perp didn’t make it to the hospital.

Overall, a helluva good “day at the plate” for the good guys in what appears to have been a doubleheader: 11 for 12 with 5 HRs, 3 other extra-base hits, and only one whiff. Too bad about the seriously wounded vic in OK, though.

I will say I can somewhat understand the first perp’s actions, though, even though I can’t agree with or condone them. If someone was playing around with my spouse and I found out about it, I’d be damn angry too. But I seriously doubt I’d try to take either of them out with a brick.

Tom Huxton

The pastor in Detroit may face charges. Everyone knew everyone, and some are calling for the cleric’s removal. The DRT fellow did make a mistake re: the “brick” thing, though. The pastor had turned too many cheeks already, and everyone knew it. They are choosing up sides for a good debate on the matter. The presence of news cameras brings out the worst in some folks, in this case the vic will play the innocent martyr and the cleric will be Brutus (or Judas) or something ugly. Four to the chest may seem excessive, in retrospect. A good knee cap shot should have been sufficient.

B Woodman

“A good knee cap shot should have been sufficient.”

Uhhh huhhh. . .
That’s a fairly small moving target, difficult to hit for the average shooter. That’s why most everyone is taught “center mass”, easier to hit under moving and stressful circumstances.

Pinto Nag

If the knee cap isn’t moving, I could probably hit it. If it’s moving, I’m shooting center mass.

I have a thing about pastors carrying guns — in church, at any rate. Backstop, remember? Who’s behind who you’re shooting at? Your congregation? What happens if you miss whoever has earned your wrath? Do you plug the old lady in the front pew? Not good. To be honest, I feel about churches the way I feel about theaters and stadiums and other ‘packed in, can’t move’ places. You won’t find me there anymore.

Tom Huxton

Generally, guns were banned from bars, churches and political gatherings. (“Do not argue about God or politics, and do not try to reason with drunks.”)

I figure most folks have two knees close together (figure an 8 inch target) and the range of a brick (about 20 feet) times 4 shots. If the guy can’t do a knee shot, he should carry a “snake gun” (410 pistol/ 41 long Colt, shot shell)

UpNorth

“I figure most folks have two knees close together (figure an 8 inch target”. Because no one ever, in a life and death situation ever experienced an adrenaline dump that causes them to shake like a, well, like a whore in church.
If you’re not shooting center mass, you shouldn’t shoot.

Tom Huxton

Are you trying to start a philosophical argument, or a political argument?
I would posit that I can have my opinion, You can hold your opinion; and we could Both be wrong. The vic didn’t even get to throw the brick. Too much response to mere rude talk.

Shooting deer, go for the heart.
The lone Ranger or Hopalong Cassidy would shoot the gun from the hand of the guy in the black hat.
David v. Goliath: hit him between the eyes.

Guns4Defense is getting good PR this morning, even in strange lands like LaLaLand to the West.

John Robert Mallernee

The folks in Fort Wayne, Indiana did exactly the right thing.

When someone breaks into your home, you do NOT go room to room looking for them, but instead, you retreat to your bedroom, barricade the door, dial 911, and FORCE the intruders to come to you.

The recommended weapon for home defense is a twelve gauge pump shotgun loaded with .00 buckshot.

There are two (02) reasons why the pump shotgun is recommended for home defense.

(01) – It is an area weapon, not requiring accurate aiming, thus any family member can employ it effectively.

(02) – Psychologically, the pump shotgun might not ever have to be fired, as merely the instantly recognized unique sound of using the pump action of the shotgun is generally sufficient to frighten away any menacing intruder.

Roger in Republic

Except that my pump shotgun will only be pumped to bring the second shell to battery. The first man thru the door will never hear the gun being racked. Nor will he hear the safety being removed or the shot that kills him. Again, the first shot is a warning for the second guy.

David

urban legend…. rational people would stop at the sound of a pump being racked. But rational people don’t typically break into homes… get some drug addled nitwit with little rational reasoning in operation, and he’ll do anything regardless of what noises he hears.

To say nothing of the fact that at typical household ranges, the normal unmodified shotgun’s pattern is maybe a coupla inches in diameter. (Figure a 30 inch pattern at 30 yards… at 2-3 yards – well, you can do the math.) When you HIT with a shotgun it’s devastating – but it ain’t a magic wand. You can miss real easily, and a typical shotgun barrel is much longer than a rifle barrel – a 24″ rifle barrel is pretty short in comparison to a shotgun. Shotguns are much better exterior weapons.

John Robert Mallernee

@ DAVID, Et Alii:

I forgot to mention that the shotgun should be a short barrel model.

I don’t remember which manufacturer it is (there’s probably more than one), but you can purchase pump shotguns with interchangeable barrels, i.e., a long one for hunting, and a short one for home defense.

It’s been a zillion years since I was a police officer, but it used to be (a zillion years ago!) that police departments openly recommended to the public that homeowners use a twelve gauge, short barrel, pump shotgun for defense.

Another psychological advantage of using a twelve gauge, short barrel, pump shotgun inside a small, darkened, confined space – – – ,

When you pull the trigger, the blinding flash and deafening roar are like a bomb going off right next to you!

Try it – – – you’ll like it!

Maybe current police departments recommend AR-15 rifles for home defense?

I don’t know.

I’m just an old man, and I’ve been out of the game for a long time.

John Robert Mallernee

Do you have little ones?

Here’s a life saving suggestion, even if your children are now adults.

A day or two ago, in California, a Mexican (illegal alien?) lured an eleven year old girl into his car.

A teacher’s aide who witnessed this, recognized the girl and knew who her relatives actually were.

So, she yelled for the little girl to get out of that car, and then used her own car to block the Mexican’s escape, until police could arrive.

As I normally do when reading news reports, I also perused the comments posted by other readers.

One comment REALLY stood out, and I promised to pass along the suggestion.

Have your child choose a secret password, one that they can easily remember, and use that password whenever dispatching a stranger to pick up the child (for whatever reason).

This also is an excellent safety technique for adult children travelling about, et cetera.
