According to the Medal of Honor Society, Einar Ingman, who earned the Medal of Honor for his actions while assigned to the 7th Infantry Division has passed at the tender age of 85.

His heroic action occurred near Maltari, Korea, on February 26, 1951 when he was a corporal with the Seventh Infantry Division in Korea and his unit was tasked with attacking an enemy position. When the squad leaders were wounded, Ingman combined the two units and led the assault. He destroyed one of the machine gun nests and was advancing on the other when shot in the face. He unflinchingly continued his assault on the second nest killing the enemy soldiers with his bayonet before losing consciousness. It inspired his men to press the attack until the enemy broke into a disorganized retreat.

He was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Harry S. Truman at a White House ceremony on July 5, 1951.

Rest in Peace, warrior. 130 days from the act to the MOH presentation. In an age without computers and instant communication. Today, it takes years for the process to work. Too much bureaucracy and meddling.

“Where do you put the bayonet?”

Attributed to Lewis “Chesty” Puller after seeing a flamethrower demo.

Rest in peace Sir, you have seen enough strife in your time.

Shooting him in the face just Pissed him off more. What a war dog!

Here’s a story about him from eight years ago. It’s a helluva read–better than the citation. That facial wound was point blank. He lost all memory of what happened after he was shot. I guess they found the Chinese bodies with bayonet wounds and put two and two together correctly.

“Ingman charged an enemy machine-gun nest, threw a grenade into it, and shot the gunners. As he approached a second machine-gun emplacement, an enemy grenade exploded near his head, knocking him down and tearing off a piece of his left ear. As he struggled to his feet, a Chinese soldier jumped up from a trench and shot him in the face. The bullet hit next to his nose, tearing out his upper teeth and exiting behind his ear.”

A shot to the face couldn’t even stop him, I bet the guys in that nest shit their pants before being stabbed to death. Rest In Peace.

I -much- prefer these sorts of threads, stories of real heroes who walked amoung us, who remind us just what “American” can do.

Know that Valor is real, and be inspired to do that which is hard, for you too can rise above the adversity and tribulations of life, be they great or mundane.
