Six governors arm National Guard troops
Yesterday, we reported that governors of Arkansas and Oklahoma issued executive orders to arm their active duty National Guard troops in the wake of the attack in Tennessee on a recruiting office and Reserve training center. NBC News reports that four other governors have joined them;
The governors of Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Florida and Indiana have authorized the arming of full-time National Guard members to deter attacks and allow them the ability to protect themselves and civilians in case they are targeted.
Missouri State Senators have asked their governor to follow suit.
The article also points out that Utah’s governor Gary R. Herbert had authorized the arming of his National Guard troops last year. I’m not holding my breath waiting for New York’s legacy governor to allow the troops under his command to protect themselves.
Congressional help may be on the way for Federal troops;
Sen. Ron Johnson a Republican who represents Wisconsin and is chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said Friday he will introduce legislation “calling for the termination of regulations that prohibit members of the Armed Forces from carrying certain firearms on military installations.”
“By disarming the Armed Forces, gun-free policies at military facilities have made our men and women in uniform easy targets for terrorist attacks,” Johnson said.
The Secretary of Defense, Ashton Carter, has asked the Federal services for recommendations by the end of this week.

Incidents like this would not happen if we spent more time affording educational opportunities and career potentials to people.
Instead of arming our military we should be compromising our efforts towards world domination and negotiate with the oppressed of the world to bring peace.
If we are not careful events like this could lead to war. Obviously when people travel to their homeland and see the oppression that results from our insistence to dominate the world they return disenfranchised and see the American Dream for what it is.
They don’t have to return from their homeland…
Ok, but then who will run our nuclear power plants? You probably do not realize that foreign tuition at Universities is three times higher than in-state tuition. They help fund the education of our poor American students. If they all stay in their homeland, who will drive the cab to the airport? Lastly, I have gotten used to buying my Camel’s and beer from the goofy looking bug eyed guy with moron smile. Not sure I am ready for all that “Hope and Change”.
Would you like a Slurpee with that??
Yeah ’cause when I think of oppression in islamic states (beheadings, lynching based on rumors of blasphemy, honor killings etc.) I always think gee if only the US wasn;t spreading islam around the world, somebody should really stop these guys.
Dave, have you ever been to an islamic nation? yeah didn’t think so tool.
Dave Hardin is no tool, he just forgets to add a /sarc tag to his posts sometimes.
I believe Dave Hardin is a Beirut Veteran.
If Dave Hardin were serious, we would be all over him like nobody’s business. He isn’t. He’s a hard-boiled Marine who is slightly less sarcastic than I am and probably smiles broadly when folks unfamiliar with him think him serious in certain of his writings. He’s deliciously rotten that way.
Hey, don’t blame me. Jonn is the one that keeps posting this ultra right wing slant on things that encourages gun nutz to spread their ‘preper’ hysteria throughout the land.
The next little Turbanite that want to join the military better not just walk in. I am sure Marines have activated the General Mattis meet and greet policy.
DG, add a /sarc tag to these posts.
Some people are just to dense to get it. But keep on truckin’.
I knew that it was sarcasm, but it’s an argument being advanced elsewhere, especially among the liberal camp. I had to address it anyway as I’ve even found that many on the conservative side of the house (Not Dave, but others) don’t fully understand the nature of the war that we’re involved with.
Exactly, in no time flat the peace-nicks will be spewing their bullshit on how education and opportunity will fix all the problems.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, sheep keep getting killed by college degrees falling out of the sky.

Obviously when people travel to their homeland and see the oppression that results from our insistence to dominate the world they return disenfranchised and see the American Dream for what it is. Remember the Barbary wars? What was the predominant religion of those Northern African countries that supported the piracy against our shipping? Back in those days, the United States wasn’t anywhere near to being a superpower, nor was it all over the world in the capacity it is in today. First, every country in the world is pursuing its interests, including the United States. If the United States were to disappear overnight, another country would step in to fill the void. It’s the nature of the beast when it comes to human organizations. Second, their radicalization isn’t anything new. The idea that it’s because of something the US is doing is just a phony front. See Barbary Wars, when we were not even a power. The Global War on Terror is just part of a continuum in a struggle that has been going on between the West and Radical Islam since the founding of Islam. We’re being attacked because we’re not Muslim… it’s THAT simple. Many of these Muslims that go to where these radicalized Muslims are in the world have already embarked on their radicalism. They’re just getting additional training and experience to back it up. These guys don’t think in Western terms, but in radical Islamic terms. They are on a manifest destiny, one that involves spreading Islam throughout the world. This is a coordinate effort at war against those outside of the “Muslim Nation.” This isn’t an isolated event. The Chattanooga terrorist attack isn’t an isolated event, but part of an overall effort against those… Read more »
Excellent post. Thankx, that was a great read.
But……. the /sarc tag takes all the fun out things. Besides, LARS hasn’t been coming around to keep ‘you people’ on your feet.
(shhh…if anyone asks just tell them I was a postal clerk at Camp Clusterfuck.)
Larsie Limpdick can suck a cock in hell.
You two are boring the hairballs out of my cat.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.
Have some know-nothing O-1 draw up a powerpoint class akin to the Concealed Carry classes. Include a mandatory pass written test and a mandatory pass marksmanship test.
Boom, one weekend and you have a military concealed carry test for AGR and permanent staff. For that matter, make it E-5/O-2 and above so you know most of the riff-raft out of the equation.
If you can’t trust EVERY troop, at all ranks, with weapons, then you have a severe personnel and training problem.
Welcome to the modern military….
Why slam current service members?
Soldiers are far more professional in their handling of their weapons on average than probably at any time in the last 40 years.
In the early 90s it was not uncommon to see soldiers resting their fingers on their triggers during patrols and training. And there is tons of images of them doing just that in Vietnam. It is rare to see it today. Additionally soldiers flag much less often than the did twenty years ago.
What do you know about Military Service, and no, your time in high school JROTC doesn’t count.
I’m not sure about Missouri, that State currently has a cotton candy-brained, lollipop-up-the-ass, Smurf-hugging, unicorn-lusting liberal demo-rat Governor.
During my middle Eastern vacations, I recieved training in regards to “Assymetrical Warfare”. I do not remember the definition, but I get the meaning. It is funnyspeak for “shit just aint what it used to be”. Assymetrical Warfare has come to roost here in the USA. My biggest fear (realistic) is that the kneejerks will allow the terrorists to win completely. They (kneejerks) exist on both sides of the political spectrum (most are liberals now).
As individual members of the team, we have the responsibility to watch out for the team as well as ourselves. That may sound kind of cryptic.
WWIT, everything is a kneejerk now. These people who scramble to ‘do something’ and send twitters all over the internet are exactly like my mother. They get half of the information, get half of it right and go with half of what they got right, IF that.
As long as whatever flies off the fan doesn’t actually hit them, they have no responsibility for it, but they can jump up and down and point at it.
