God Bless America
I was nearly 15 years old when this program was taped and I took most of this life in this place for granted, you know like most middle teens. But here you go…from 45 years ago;
And these nearly forgotten words about why we celebrate this day;
Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our Brittish brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.
We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

AS IF 4th of July isn’t great already, I have a bald eagle flying around my house and landing in my yard. I have never seen one anywhere near this town in the combined 10 years I’ve lived here. I’m so excited! Happy 4th again everyone! May your day be filled with excitement and beer!
Cool! We have a pair of bald eagles nesting at the bay near my house! Have not seen one though so super jealous.
Happy 4th of July to everyone at TAH. I know what you mean, Valkyrie. I had a bald eagle around my place last year at the 4th. Never had seen one around in the 16 years we’d lived there.
Now we see them about once a month, or so.

Mr. Mayer remains sharp as a tack and lives quietly in the outskirts of Charles Town, not far from the Shenandoah River. It is curious how many Veterans not born in West Virginia have chosen the state as their adopted home over the past decades.

Sweet. I saw a barren flag pole yesterday outside of a warehouse and since I keep a few flags with me decided to fly one.

I spent the afternoon watching the fabulous 1972 movie/mucical “1776”.
Yes, a musical!
And if you have never seen it, you must!
It is brilliantly shot, produced, historically correct (in theme) and is quite funny and period pithy.
It generally follows the few months up to and the construction of the Declaration of Indepedence in Philadelphia.
The three main characters are John Adams, Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. Many of the delegates from the 13 are explored and dispatches from G. Washington are read as well. One particular scene and song addresses slavery … most powerful point in the movie.
So there you go, lauch your jokes, I can take it … MCPO watched a musical today!
