Dan Page; phony SF sergeant major
Several months ago, back during the Ferguson thing, this guy popped up on CNN and several other venues, mostly because he was a cop in Missouri and this talk he gave to Oathkeepers in Saint Louis in 2012.
Yeah, that video is more than an hour long, so you probably won’t watch it. Just take my word for it that he claims that he was drafted in 1968, that he became Special Forces, that he’s served in every war since then. That he’s the senior enlisted adviser for AFRICOM, that he was in Afghanistan “before the war began”, whatever that means. He claims that he had knowledge of the 9-11 attacks thirty days before it happened. Using his claims of being an active duty sergeant major as his authority, he also says that he has specific knowledge of 18,000 Spetnaz, Russian Special Forces, training at Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Carson has 25,000 Spetznaz and Fort Polk has 1,400.
Here’s some mashed up parts of that video along with him at Ferguson and his interaction with Don Lemon of CNN;
In the picture at the top of the page, he’s wearing the patch of the U.S. Army Civil Affairs & Psychological Operations Command (Airborne), so he was probably in an Army Reserve unit.
I say “was” because SSG E tells us that he’s not listed in AKO.
According to his DD214, he wasn’t a Special Forces soldier and it says that he was activated for Afghanistan.
There is no record of him ever attending special forces training, no SF or Ranger tabs on his photo. He may or may not still be in the Reserves, but since he’s 65 years old, I’m thinking that he is not. But there is no CIB or a Combat Action Badge, so it’s not likely that he ever heard a shot fired in anger, in contrary to his claims that he has nine combat deployments. He was activated for Afghanistan, but his claims that he was in every war since Vietnam is ridiculous, looking at his records. I don’t see any Vietnam service awards in his records either.
In this picture it looks like he’s wearing a 10th SFG flash (Bad Tolz, Germany) on the beret, but that’s not a SF DUI on the flash. Also, if he was in an SF unit and on jump status, he’d be wearing a flash behind his jump wings – that’s noticeably absent.
On his website for sheriff, he lists his military training and schools. It’s very confusing. It reflects the attitude that is prevalent in the Civil Affairs community – they can do everything better than the rest of us. What the Hell is the Advanced Infantry Course?
Oathkeepers have been distancing themselves from Page since Ferguson and when the video was given some wide exposure, but, the fact remains that they invited him to speak in the first place and did nothing about Page and his crank-ass bullshit. He’s a phony speaking to their membership – but Oathkeepers doesn’t really care about the legitimacy of their members, so why should they care about the legitimacy of the folks who drive their policies.
I have several FOIA requests pending for Oathkeepers, so stand by – I’ve pretty much had it with them.
ADDED March 14, 2016; This showed up on his website yesterday;
Sunday, March 13, 2016: On my return from North Africa in 2011 I was invited to the “Have Bible Will Travel Church”, to speak before Church members, Oath Keepers and Police officers. It has been brought to my attention by a patriotic veteran that I stated that I was a “Green Beret” which is a lie. I am not a Green Beret. I did not realize that I had made such a claim, nor [do I know] what possessed me to make such a statement. I’m deeply embarrassed personally. I apologize to the church members, the Oath Keepers, Police Officers present and to all veterans and current members of the U.S Military. I take full responsibility for my action. It was not my intent to lie. I had no intention of deceit. I simply misspoke as a result of not having written notes for my speech but simply speaking off the cuff concerning numerous and various topics regarding my career which began in 1970.
Category: Oath Keepers, Phony soldiers
beretverde is gonna love seeing this guy. I’m guessing I can pretty much predict his two word comment when he does. (smile)
Just Damn…as in another damnn effing “Truth Molester”…
Well, I was wrong – apparently you’re feeling charitable today, beretverde. I was thinking you’d give him the “two word hymn” when you read this. (smile)
When I first came across Oathkeepers some years ago, I thought that the concept was really great. Then I started digging into them and found the whole organization full of conspiracy nutters and airsoft commandos.
My advice is to stay as far away from them as is possible. Wile I am sure there are some good guys in that group, there are so many nutters and wannabes that it’s not worth your time to even do a drive-by commenting on their site.
I was wondering about them also and have been getting their email. I always thought they were a bunch of nuts and conspiracy believers and the more I see of them, the more i know its true.
My Rice bowl is ready.
I like my rice just a little bit crispy.
I saw some other articles on this guy and apparently he really was a CSM in the Reserves, but had a generator mechanic MOS. Makes you wonder what kind of CSM he was. Or maybe he just went over the edge after that. Anyone out there ever serve with this nut? There has to be someone who knows him.
Dunno if I buy those articles claiming he was a CSM in the “reserves” as being accurate, OldSarge57. Here’s why. The “fine individual” is wearing the 432nd CA patch on both shoulders above. Ergo, that means he’s claiming to have deployed to combat with them. Pretty sure the only times that the 432nd has deployed to combat has been during the GWOT – 2003, 2007, and 2011 were the only references to the unit deploying I’ve been able to find. For his combat patch to be legit, he’d have to have been assigned or formally attached to the unit during one of those deployments. However, by 2003 if you were in the USAR you were required to have an AKO account. (Pretty sure that was also true for the ARNG as well by 2003). And I’m not buying a guy who ended up being a CSM not having enough “good years” to retire when they hit the age limit. Units looking for CSMs don’t tend to select those with a record of poor participation. Retirees (AC and RC) are listed in AKO. So if this guy were either still serving or retired from the USAR and his claims of being a CSM and having service with the 432nd in combat were true – he’d be in AKO. Per Jonn’s article, he’s not. Further, the 432nd is a USAR unit; any deployment with them would be USAR service. Since the 432nd is a USAR unit, any records from a GWOT deployment would almost certainly be digital records stored by HRC in digital format. (The USAR was doing that by 2003, too.) So an NPRC FOIA would get a “hit” on his USAR records on-file with HRC as well as his older paper records from Vietnam (a copy of which should have ended up in his later USAR records anyway). Bottom line: something here seems fishy. We have two independent indicators of that. I’m wondering if he’s actually a “state guard” type and has been taking advantage of the media’s lack of knowledge of the distinction between state guard and the ARNG.… Read more »
Wow.
You should get out more.
The above only took about 10-15 min over lunch to research, GT. Plus a bit of personal knowledge concerning USAR policies and procedures of that time frame.
I kinda detest people who lie about having “been there/done that” – especially when they’re p!ssing all over their own honorable wartime service by embellishing what they’ve done. I don’t mind taking 15 min to show that’s what they’re almost certainly doing.
That’s why Hondo has groupies!
I AM HONDO!!!!!
I know someone who drives a Honda!
Just so long it was on your lunch break……
Just kidding.
Keep it up!
“Wow.
You should get out more.”
LOL, brutal GT. Watch your back. Dave’s girls will try to get vengeance I am sure.
I have friends in the 432d, I could check their history of CSMs easily enough. I’m sure he’s not there.
I’m guessing he bought that uniform top off E-bay or from the army-navy store.
Though even most Army personnel don’t realize that there are no CA units in the National Guard, CA and PSYOP are only USAR units. So if he says he’s ARNG, then that is another bullshit factor 5.
But even when I was deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, wearing the CAPOC patch, troops thought I was one of those SF types. Granted, if they asked I told them I was CA and about what we do vs SF or PSYOP or the Rangers, etc.
Please check with your friends. I for one would be quite interested to hear if anyone there actually knows him at all. I’d think if he deployed with them (even in 2003) that someone in the unit would still remember him.
That’s not an exclusively 432nd patch – that’s the patch for all of USACAPOC, including every reserve Civil Affairs Command, Battalion and Company, and every PSYOP Group, Battalion and Company – according to Wikipedia, they’ve got ~10K soldiers.
SSG E, that is correct. We used to call that patch the “electric butter knife”.
Was in an EN unit in 2004, worked with a bunch of CA guys in Iraq – good bunch. Knew 2 that were killed by VBIEDs. Nail this POS to the wall – all of the NG SGM and CSM I knew were out at the age of 60…by their choice :).
As I recall, there was other documentation on him proclaiming 432nd. But I will see what I can see on that one. there are only about 5500 personnel amongst USACAPOC CA units these days, very small community.
He’s wearing the USACAPOC patch on both sides. I’m PSYOP and I have that patch on my left side (1ID Patch on the right). This opens up additional deployment possibilities for him.
I’m not defending the guy though.
Also, I did a check of AKO using a different but similar first name than his official first name (This is AKO, I’ve seen a name completely different from a Soldier’s actual name). I found a possible match for a retired SFC reservist. However, since I don’t have photos of Dan Page from when he was younger, I can’t say for sure that would be him.It would look like him when he was younger, but it doesn’t have enough details for me to clinch it as him.
May or may not be him, could be coincidence. That photo of him with South Koreans could either be photo shopped, or he could’ve actually been in the same room as South Korean Soldiers.
Either way, he’s an embellishing ding dong that deserves every hammering that you guys are subjecting him to.
My guess is that he is playing the same old game of civil affairs = Special Operations and knowing that most civilians have no idea of the difference between Special Operations and Special Forces.
I used to hate it when Civil Affairs people thought they were king shit because “we kinda do what Special Forces does.”
Well, in all fairness, if you really, really need asphalt, any guy who can deliver it would be pretty special. Maybe even more special if you needed that asphalt in a hurry in the late 60’s in that little place over there known as Viet Nam.
(Is the /sarc really necessary?)
I actually appreciated the engineers’ efforts in that regard. The laterite roads of QL 13 had a tendency to wash out during the monsoons. Peneprime was a lousy substitute for asphalt.
Yep. Know several guys who delivered just such things, and were highly appreciated for the work they did. Not one of them feels any need to claim their being special in any way.
Another snotnosed booger-eating bedwetting lying-assed cream puff of a Swamp Donkey running his mouth! Shit like his is another reason I won’t have anything to do with Oathkeepes. A little off subject, but has anyone heard the news about the Winn Dixie grocery chain donating this weekend’s profits to the WWP? Talk about a con game hitting a jackpot!!
“They” are going to send someone like him in to kill me? “They” better get “Their” shit together first.
Word has it that All-Points Logistics’ has several parking lots that need resurfacing.
Just saying.
That many Spetznaz training in the U.S? Maybe the Spetznaz are here in support of the Peoples Democratic Republic of Krasnovia. Wonder if that shitbag John Giduck is training them.
Where is “Faker 6” when you need him?
I know. I was hoping he’d show up today. Where you at “Faker 6.” Put down the fat shit snacks and explain what the fuck Page is talking about in regards to Spetznaz.
“Peoples Democratic Republic of Krasnovia”
You just made me catch the PTSD.
My bad. Thousand apologies, Twist.
A special feces CSM… isn’t he special!
Oathkeepers seems to attract asshats like this clown, don’t they?
Oathkeepers…. so, what oaths are they keeping? Are you sure it isn’t ‘oafkeepers’?
It seems that the Well of Silliness and Fabricators is full to nearly overflowing. Good. This guy sounds like a prime candidate for the captain of the pirates of the asteroids. I will make a note of his (completely phony) claims and get on with things.
Goat Keepers maybe?
I could see that. But only in my nightmares!
Wheeeeeeen are the f____g ass wipes of the world going to wake up??? This IS HELL for all the bullshit artists in the world. With each passing day I sit on the telephone wires looking for the day’s road kill Jonn is going to present us. Sure enough, without fail the morons line up day after day waiting to be exposed; and we swoop down trying to pounce on a tasty morsel of their bullshit that non-vets have been lapping up for all it’s worth. Do they actually think they can go on forever and nobody will ever challenge their stories of self sacrifice and heroism? My fuse is obviously a LOT shorter than Jonn’s. Every day I become more and more disillusioned as to the increasing number of these assholes trying to sell the world on their imaginary tough guy stories. Wake the fuck up you idiots! You don’t see any of us running our mouths with war stories and other fantasies just to get some recognition we know we don’t deserve. On one hand I wish the world knew about this site; maybe that would shut some of the posers the hell up. On the other hand, it becomes irritation entertainment just to see daily the world is absolutely FULL of dreamers selling their bullshit to make themselves feel like a man. Have to admit, I do enjoy the comments published here every day; some are just beyond intellectual humor as some of the posters are funny as hell with their creative juices flowing. Still, it never fails to amaze me that we never run out of material. ALWAYS someone in the background somewhere is blabbering their phony ass trying to impress a gullible and apparently uneducated public. Anyone ever notice it is the real vets who see holes in the stories, and that’s where it all begins. Fuck ’em all!!! I’m going back up on my perch on the wire and sharpen my talons, getting ready for the nest tasty tidbit Jonn will toss. The world of near- genius Make Believe Warriors is Jonn’s salad to choose… Read more »
Jarhead, I to take exception to ‘don’t see any of us running our mouths with war stories and other fantasies’.
I absolutely DO run on with war stories and other fantasies but I make it abundantly clear that it is FICTION, the byproduct of my overheated imagination, and that all the weapons mentioned and used are likewise imaginary.
Likewise, I steal – er, borrow – borrow all the trench slang I can nick out of people, because unlike most of you, I have never been in combat (they wouldn’t LET me go ’cause I was a GIRL, whine) and only those who have been there can properly describe sex in the trenches.
At the same time, I credit anyone who throws a big one at me and acknowledge my sources. In fact, at some point in the future, I expect to have enough stuff to produce a compleat (vs. complete) compendium of battlefront verbal diarrhea.
Ex-PH2…Sorry, you don’t make the cut for Douchebag Posers of America (DPA). You first have to have a following who send you big tear-stained $ when you erupt in public. Likewise you have to post your pix with more medals than George Patton; and an ego to match the Superior Egotist D. McArthur. Then to complete your façade, you MUST have a tiny puppy in your arms and a haircut that makes you look like the young kid on The Addams Family. Good try, but we accept you for what you say you are in this case. Can’t help but enjoy your posts no matter what you claim. S/F
Love you, too, Jarhead.
I want to hear more about this “sex in the trenches” thing. Now that is something that you don’t see in the history books.
I’m just hear as the comic relief.

What are the odds he’s rocking the obligatory 3rd award CIB?
No, no. 4th. 4th CrIB.
A search using the Nevada Secretary of State Corporations search tool shows Oath Keepers as being a registered entity and current. It also lists their board members.
However, a search using the IRS Exempt Organizations (EO) search tool does not yield any results. Oath Keepers (searched as one and two words) does not show up as a current or revoked nonprofit–nor ever filing a 990 form.
I do not find them listed on Guidestar.
They call themselves a nonprofit on their wiki and Facebook pages. I don’t see the word nonprofit on their .org website but they DO have a donate with PayPal button.
I do not see any mention on the .org webpage if any donations are tax deductible.
I do not see any listing of what type of nonprofit designation they have e.g. 501c(x).
I do not see an EIN or IRS designation letter listed for public viewing.
If Oath Keepers is a legitimate nonprofit, I would ask that they post their EIN and IRS designation letter for public review.
Note that the name Oath Keepers is two words not one for any FOIA requests but might be referred to as one word in some cases.
I would suggest screen captures for any inquiring minds.
At this point I do not find any evidence that they are a legal 501c(x) nonprofit.
BTW: anytime I see the word “nonprofit” used I immediately search the Secretary of State’s office for the state where the “nonprofit” resides and then go to the IRS Exempt Organizations search tool.
It is my personal experience that it is about 10:1 for non-legal/fake vs legal nonprofits for any discipline.
Donor beware. Just sayin’
And people wonder why I’m such a Asshole with these groups and dick wads the above story says it all LMAO ! ! ! !
Uh oh! Someone or several someones are about to get a spanking! And not the kind you pay for and enjoy.
I broke down and watched that video.
Dear God! I’ve got my flannel thongs all in a twist now! It’s just plain fucking scary that people this fucking insane are running around giving lectures. This person needs to be supervised and heavily medicated!
And why are so many of this wannabes or has beens (and the never willbes) on the lecture circuit? Is there a Frauds-R-Us, “You got the Bills,I’ll tell ya my Kills”? Seriously! Why?
Word.
He’s Legit.. he was riding with Mouse Prosen In a Huey Gunship over Gitmo when the Cubans shot it down.. they were Dutch-Ruddering and both or them ended up with ripped testicles and dislocated shoulders.
I gotta quit eating Cocoa Puffs when I am reading this page…
Phuzzz the cat keeps trying to eat the ones that fly out of my nose like a ricocheting 5.56 round…
“I have a secret clearance!” Cool story bro, so does 90% of the military and most of that information consists of mundane details of training and operations. As soon as I heard that I concluded he was a faker (or exaggerator) before reading anything else.
SPC5 and SGM, pretty much the same rank
I worked with CSM Page in Africa. He was NOT the CSM for AFRICOM, he was the CSM of a makeshift Civil affairs battalion headquarters, and was one of the worst leaders I have ever served with.
And there’s the rub.
CSM Skidmark.
/what a tool.
Oh, shit….I’m sorry about that time I claimed I was a SEAL Ranger! It just slipped out when I was in bed with that gorgeous blonde with the fabulous knockers and long legs! I didn’t mean to imply that I was a REAL SEAL Ranger to the military community (although it did get me a fine piece that night). I’m so sorry for the misunderstanding.
Well, I’m not sure how he became a CSM. He says he graduated from Class 30 of the “Command Sergeant Major Academy”. I checked the class roster. He is not on it. That’s not surprising since there is no “Command Sergeant Major Academy”. The correct title was and is the “U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy”. Apparently he doesn’t even know that it should be “Sergeants Major”, not “Sergeant Major”. I don’t know about the Army Reserve but in the National Guard you had to graduate from the Sergeants Major Academy in order to retire as an E-9; otherwise you retired at E-8.
http://cgsc.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p15040coll2/id/6667
A little back up for you Sergeant Major.
The only person named Page in Class 30 was MSG ELVIN PAGE.
One of my old First Sergeants from Fulda was in this class too – Robert Retzlaff. Why he never put his boot up my ass during my assignment there I’ll never know….
I simply misspoke as a result of not having written notes for my speech but simply speaking off the cuff concerning numerous and various topics regarding my career which began in 1970.
I do a lot off “off the cuff” speeches because of my positions in various civic organizations (the last one was a few days ago to a Boy Scout Council). They usually include an introduction and brief bio so the audience understands my perspective. I’ve yet to “simply misspeak” and claim membership in or qualifications related to military organizations with which I’ve never served. That problem must be limited to lying asshats.
He has a Silver Star???? (Note the DD214)
Still trying to figure out the notation of Silver Star listed as the first entry of Block 13 on that 2001 DD214.
Does it mean a Silver Star Medal or some sort of a USAR award?
Another mystery to think about. At least it was not repeated on the other DD214. But again, the DD214 is supposed to be reviewed before signature. Maybe it just “slipped by” both the typist and the service member.
That’s one of the things we’re still checking on – he doesn’t wear the Silver Star in either picture and his website doesn’t mention it. He doesn’t seem the type to not mention the medal if he deserved it. But, it also looks like he was never any place where he could earn a Silver Star.
Well, the only plausible explanation I can come up with that he would have been awarded a “Silver Star” was during his first tour to Germany when he was a Airborne Pathfinder Generator Mechanic in HHC, 8th ID, he once fixed the 1.5KW generator that powered the coffee pot at the Division TOC. However, a couple of hours later, the generator broke down again and the Division CG took away his “Gold Star” for fixing it the first time and replaced it with a “Silver Star.”
That’s my story, it’s as good as any other story and I’m sticking with it.
The photo is not the best, but the beret flash appears to be the CAPOC flash to me. DUI is probably a CAPOC unit DUI. Although CAPOC is an airborne command, only a very few of the units are actually on jump status, so it would not be unusual to see CAPOC flash on beret but no flash behind jumps wings. I can’t tell from the photo whether the beret is black or green, but if black, that is the way they are (or were up until I got out a few years ago) worn in CAPOC units–with the CAPOC flash, not the Army flash.
At least for a time, SF qualified soldiers assigned to CAPOC units wore green berets with the CAPOC flash. I don’t know if this was ever officially approved, but it was common practice for most of the time I was in CAPOC, although I think it was officially banned a few years ago. Of course, this guy is admittedly not SF qualified, so if the beret is green, he is definitely posing, and either way he seems to be nut case.
