Bigelow to make Bergdahl film

| March 12, 2015

Kathryn Bigelow

QM1 sends us a link to the news that Kathryn Bigelow, the director of everyone’s favorite war movie, Hurt Locker and later Zero Dark thirty, is planning a movie about Bowe Bergdahl;

And now her third film is sticking in similarly hot button territory, as she’s moving forward on a movie about US soldier Bowe Bergdahl.

[…]

Mark Boal, who wrote The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, will write the movie, while Megan Ellison will produce. And while this project was actually announced last year, it looks like all three are now making it a priority, with Bigelow in particular pushing aside another movie she was attached to (Triple Frontier, about the South American drug trade) in order to get going on this.

Yeah, nevermind that the details of Bergdahl’s trip haven’t been released (that we know about), go ahead and make a movie. Of course, we all know that the CIA and the Defense Department released details about raid on bin Laden to the movie maker, so I guess they won’t have a problem doing the same in this case. Maybe we can come up with possible titles for this totally unbiased piece of fiction.

Here’s my suggestion for her film’s title:

Endless Manlove Thursday: Five Years with the Taliban

That’s Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad

“Staring”……..

Atkron

Working title for the movie is: AWOL Traitor.

Pinto Nag

That’s what it should be. But by this director? It’ll probably be something closer to “Bowe’s Big Boo-boo.”

Friend S. Wilkins

LMAO!! You beat me to it! I was thinking, “Bowe Bergdahl’s Big Adventure”, but I think you nailed it. 😀

Instinct

“Yeah, nevermind that the details of Bergdahl’s trip haven’t been released (that we know about), go ahead and make a movie.”

Oh, I’m sure Obambi will give her access to all the information she needs to make a nice propaganda piece so he looks all presidential and stuff.

QM1

Found a good working poster for her to use on this film.

That’s good!

A two hour film of the inside of porta-potty holding tank would have just as much cinematic value.

OAE CPO USN Ret

“of a* porta-potty”

The coffee hasn’t soaked in yet this morning.

Carry on.

Sapper3307

The movie may have a happy ending were he wakes up in Fort Leavenworth beside Nidal Hassan (vlerp) in the morgue. But do any of our readers have a happy ending they want to submit.

Drag Racing Maniac

Even better ending… he doesn’t wake up.

Pinto Nag

Won’t see it. Don’t like victim films.

Redacted1775

Holy shit on a stick that lady is inconsistent! The Hurt Locker has to be the most rage inducing movie I’ve ever seen, Zero Dark Thirty was ok in that it wasn’t an Obummer love fest and now she’s droppin another turd. Unless it’s about what a worthless piece of dog shit he is and how he got men killed who were actually worth a damn, I probably won’t see it.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

Can we add it to our list of “Worst Movies” yet?

riflemusket

I would vote for that new Sean Penn flick where he portrays an ex Special Forces guy. I think it’s called Gunman.

Title: Coward’s Delight

Maybe the Sugarhill Gang can come up with a theme song for it.

The Other Whitey

Anybody care to place a bet that she will try to make this a modern-day equivalent to “The Execution of Private Slovik?”

I had to watch that movie in high school. Then I researched the actual event–which was not accurately portrayed in the movie–and immediately lost all sympathy for Edward Slovik. He was given multiple chances to turn around, no questions asked, and was repeatedly warned that even if he didn’t go back, his letter of intent that he insisted on showing to everybody was a really bad idea. He wasn’t just a coward, he was also actively too stupid to live. He worked his own way to the firing squad, via one bad decision after another, all the while complaining that it wasn’t his fault and they were only doing it because he had a criminal record before enlistment. Then that dumbass movie with young Martin Sheen makes him out to become kind of tragic hero.

I’m guessing this is exactly what Kathy Bigelow is going for. Never mind that Bergdahl is a deserter at best and most likely a fucking traitor. He will likely be presented as “the sweet boy from Idaho who was a victim of the system” or some bullshit. And I’ll bet dollars to donuts that she won’t bother mentioning the homes, families, widowed wives, and orphaned children of the men who died searching for his worthless ass.

Maybe I’m wrong. I hope she’ll surprise me. Probably not.

The Other Whitey; just curious but wasn’t Slovak classified as 4f at the start of the war?

Hondo

Per Wikipedia, Slovik was indeed classified 4F at the beginning of World War II – due to his criminal record (petty theft, car theft). He was reclassified 1-A during late 1943, and was then drafted.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Slovik

Slovik actually deserted twice under the “absenting oneself to avoid performing hazardous duty” form of desertion. He and a friend left their unit in Aug 1944; they were caught in an artillery barrage and chose to split vice rejoining their unit (they later did so – after 6 weeks). Slovik at this point appears to have decided that he “wasn’t cut out for combat” and wasn’t going to serve in combat again, regardless.

After returning to his unit in Oct 1944, Slovik requested a transfer to a rear unit. (Because of the rapid pace of advance, it wasn’t that uncommon for soldiers to get separated from their unit for prolonged periods; he thus wasn’t prosecuted for the first absence.) When his request for a transfer was refused, Slovik pulled the same stunt again. This time, he only stayed away from US military control for a day. But the 2nd time, he’d put his intent to desert in writing.

Slovik was offered multiple chances to recant his written declaration of intent to desert, as well as to return to his unit (and, later, to join another combat unit) and have charges dropped and/or suspended. He refused, figuring at worst he’d get a DD and some jail time (he’d been to jail before and apparently preferred that to combat) – and that any sentence he received would be commuted at the end of the war.

Bluntly: he was a coward who was looking to save his own skin vice doing his duty. He thought going to jail was a better option.

Turned out he figured wrong. His court-martial panel sentenced him to death, and both his division commander and Eisenhower approved the sentence.

riflemusket

Thanks for that info. It seems during that period of the war they were taking anyone.

Ozzie 11B

Thank You. It is good to see that there are still some out there who will take the extra time to actually research a subject.

I am actually surprised that so many will rant about something without knowing anything about it when you can find just about anything regarding any subject on the internet with just a couple of clicks.

Of course the downside to this, I’m probably flagged by the “internet police, feds, spooks” or whatever just for looking up certain sites, but so what.

I would rather have knowledge on a subject before I open my mouth on it. I have learned a lot in my life by keeping my ears open and my mouth shut.

2/17 Air Cav

Either she didn’t get the memo from the White House to certain media and Hollywood not to mention Bergdahl or, if she did, she’s going to paint both a hero and a victim.

Climb to Glory

I’d rather get into a car driven by Ted Kennedy, with Ray Charles riding shotgun giving the directions then watch this movie.

QM1

Just spewed coffee out on my desk. That, my friend, was both hilarious and true.

3E9

I’d rather trust a fart when I have the flu than watch this movie.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

For the record and as an FYI the closer you get to 70 the less you can trust a fart even when you don’t have the flu.

Pinto Nag

Oh, now THAT was what I needed to read today! 😛

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Sorry darlin, some things probably shouldn’t be shared but some will be grateful they were.

Instead of “Petticoat Junction,” we now have “Geriatric Junction”!

Toot toot!!

Green Thumb

We might be getting ahead of ourselves.

It could turn out to be a B-level soft core porn flick about the love that blossoms between him and She-Manning during their time in incarceration.

Then followed by their on-again-off-again relationship through time as She-Manning is released and goes to work for All-Points Logistics.

You just never know….

We need to get this crowd funded.

Think we could get Joss Whedon to direct it?

SFC Holland

with an oiled up chest of Michael Moore as the love triangle friction plot. Will Bergdahl go all the way gay or just shemale ladyboy gay? Nidal Hassan will host the wedding regardless.

Instinct

The pitch line can be “It’s like ‘Brokeback Mountain’ meets ‘Saving Private Ryan’ with Jabba the Hutt thrown in!”

B Woodman

(SNORT)

nbcguy54ACTUAL

Hopefully it’ll contain the following disclaimer:
“No goats were harmed during the production of this movie.”

(Although that’ll kinda ruin the authenticity a bit)

Roger in Republic

My worst fear is that Pres. Oblunder will pardon both of these shitdicks on his way out the door. Code Pink will celebrate them both as heroes.

Green Thumb

The timeline is looking about right….

ByrdMan

We should get a pool going on which will come out first. The details and report on the investigation or the movie?

OWB

Perhaps the movie IS the release of the report? (Or at least what the lefties want everyone to believe the report.)

The alternative may just be that the movie will be approved so that the masses will think it is the truth when the official repot is not as flattering.

Mike Kozlowski

OWB,
I suspect that will indeed be the case: the movie will show us just how bad poor young Boss had it, and we really can’t punish him any more than he’s already been punished, can we?

That line of thinking notwithstanding, I’m sure I could come up with a few ideas.

Mike

Mike Kozlowski

‘Boss’- ‘Bowe’, damn autocorrect.

Mike

Ex-PH2

Movie titles for this epic episode? Okay.

Tents Are Not Just For Camels

Under the Desert Moon

Hey! No Means No!

Drunk and Lost on the Road to the PortaPottie

If the movies is done along the lines of ‘The Four Lioons’ and ‘Robin Hood: Men in Tights’, I’m okay with it.

SFC Holland

Does no always mean no when goats or Manning are involved though? How can he be ladyboy coy if he can’t play a little hard to get?

Ex-PH2

I don’t know, but I’m sure a method actor could give us a rundown on the method of refusing to service goats and camels. Now, Manning – hmmm, that’s a tough one…. I think it will depend on which cell block on which side of the bulding, and whether or not there are curtains in the showers – stuff like that.

Slick Goodlin

Title? – How about “American Snipe”?

Full Definition of SNIPE:

1. any of various usually slender-billed birds of the sandpiper family.

2: a contemptible person

Atkron

That might get a thumbs down from any member of the ‘Fireman’ Ratings of the USN and USCG. They wear the name Snipe with pride.

Slick Goodlin

My apologies…I’m ex Army Airborne, never heard of Navy Snipes before.
I Googled the term, I am now educated.

Instinct

See, proof that even someone in the Army can be educated.

*ducks for cover*

Fjardeson

Isn’t a “pit snipe” an engineman? Any they are proud of it. Also have the best coffee on the ship.

Fjardeson

*and they* damn 4 o’clock blahs

Veritas Omnia Vincit

No doubt this film will be as accurate as the Hurt Locker in its portrayal of events surrounding the life of the turd who walked away from his post in a war zone…

The title should simply be called: Deserter

B Woodman

No matter how “good” this movie turns out to be (which it probably won’t), I hope it goes as bust financially as most Libtard movies in the past 3 years have done. (example – what was the movie where they were ranting against fracking? Geee, that was so well done, I’ve forgotten it already) (/sarc off)

Sparks

My title, “Bowe Bergdahl…The Taliban Missed It”.

*NSFW*

The interesting questions are:

#1, can we learn what Bergdahl himself will get out of it? and

#2, will that affect his punishment? (I would certainly want to hit him a lot harder, if I knew he was going to be rewarded with Hollywood royalties and consulting fees. It increases the need for deterrence.)

Let’s see a showing of hands of all those here who will pay good money to see this.

Thought so. Me neither.

All of the legit heroic shit that has occurred during a decade plus of open warfare and this is the shit we get?

Boooooo Hollywood.

Still waiting for operation phantom fury movie.

Atkron

I think this book would make a good reference for the movie: We Were One: Shoulder to Shoulder with the Marines Who Took Fallujah, by Patrick O’Donnell

The Other Whitey

How about “The Last Stand of Fox Company” by Patrick Drury? Recent book about a not-so-recent event (Frozen Chosin) that, like the rest of the Korean War, the current generation of youngsters never heard of.

I never thought it was right that Hollywierd churned out so many WWII movies to this day (most of them decent to good), and four decades worth of Vietnam movies (few of which didn’t suck), but hardly made any about Korea. “M*A*S*H” doesn’t count. Chosin and many other events deserve the “Band of Brothers” treatment.

Of the few they did make, though, “The Bridges At Toko-Ri” made me cry like a little bitch, both when I read the book first and saw the movie later.

Atkron

I thought Pork Chop Hill with Gregory Peck was an excellent film about Korea. But you’re right a film about the men at Chosin Reservoir should be made…as should a film regarding the Forrestal Fire of 1967, and the 134 men that died, and the additional 161 that were wounded, that day trying to save their ship.

Pinto Nag

This particular director has no interest in real heroes.

Atkron

Why let the truth get in the way of telling a story. (sarcasm intended)

ONE MAN… (SCREEN GOES BLACK) ONE KNIFE….. (SCREEN GOES BLACK)… ONE MISSION… (SCREEN GOES BLACK) *Shows him running through the mountains*/cuts to *Shows a gun in a man-dress laughing*/cuts to *Shows Bergdahl and a guy with an AK laughing and holding hands*(TRUE LOVE) cuts to more intense scenes of him eating quablai pualo with the same guy/ cuts to a wedding scene of him and the man saying their vows/ shows him letting go of his hand as SF guys drag him off.. Screen goes black… NARRATOR: A TRUE STORY OF A MAN WHO ABANDONED HIS POST TO FIND LOVE.. (BOLD LETTERS= LOVE IN THE MOUNTAINS: THE BOWE BERGDAHL STORY) [rating screen appears with MA rating]

Awesome screenplay. That final scene is a real tear jerker. I mean the image of the Bowe’s hand letting go of his lover is just….powerful. 😀
