An Interesting Article

| February 25, 2015

Drudge links today to what I consider an interesting article from the UK newspaper The Independent.  It’s about Dennis Rader – the Witchita, KS, “BTK killer”.   The title is, “How psychopaths hide in plain sight.”

The article is fairly short, so yes: it definitely is “psychology lite” and lacking in details.  Still, while reading it I couldn’t help but be reminded of a few other individuals I’ve read about recently.  But maybe that’s just me.

In any case:   IMO it’s worth a read.  As always, YMMV.

Hondo thank you for the article. I will pursue this and read more of the author’s thoughts.

Thanks, but no thanks, I read enough about that guy back in 2005. The thought of it still makes my skin crawl.

I remember his guilty plea. The way he admitted to it all just matter of fact. Proof true evil exists.

Often they do hide in plain sight, believing they are beyond the reach of authorities and society at large.

In the end they all get caught, particularly when the subject becomes careless, and the truth that has been known for a long time becomes public knowledge.

Wink!

We’ve all got a bit o’ the ol’ Optical Rectalitis.

You know, where the nerves from the asshole and eyeballs get crossed in the brain process unit and cause a shitty outlook?

Study him like an alien, after your question are answered he should be dissected. Preferably after being bound but not anesthetized….

Back when he started communicating with police again a message board of amateur sleuths popped up that had a chat room. There were so many theories tossed about in there but none were even close. Then in the last couple of weeks before the police got the last communication from him that they used to identify him a fellow using the online handle of “Denny the Dog Catcher” started posting and chatting on the website. He made wild claims, but nobody believed him. Then when they caught Rader, who was a local compliance officer and dog catcher, people realized that they had probably been chatting with the serial killer on line.
He was pretty bold, but pretty stupid. He used his log in at his church to type out a letter to police and the media and sent them a floppy. They immediately looked at the meta data and had the name of the person whose log in was used.
At the time of his arrest his son was in the Navy going through nuke school.

As a young Buck my Dad was stationed at McConnell Air Base in Wichita, Ks I never knew about this Nut but oddly thier was alway a lot of jokes about BTK I just didn’t understand what or who it was, this being in the late 80s after hearing about this turd back in 2005. Was always struck by the first killing, a family of 4 whose father was a trained boxer. Btk had a gun and everyone cooperated believing his lie that he only wanted money and their car. After they complied and were tied up he slaughtered them. Made me determined that if ever faced with a similar situation to resist, throw some kind of curve ball but go down fighting.

Think fast.

Do not surrender your weapon.

Do not allow yourself to be bound.

Do not allow yourself to be taken to another location.

If someone seeks to take you captive, do not give up. Never quit. Fight! Fight dirty! Attack with utter merciless savagery.

Or, you die. Probably horribly.

Your odds of escaping decrease with time, so -now- is the time to act, decisively.

I am sure that professionals can elaborate, expand, or otherwise provide insight on this topic. But the above would work in the vast majority of civilian circumstances.

I have told my son much of want you mentioned above, including, “fight to the death, never get into a car with anyone you don’t know, if you do, you will be killed, I would rather find you on the side walk injured or dead knowing that you fought off the abductor!”

Krav Maga has instructions for kids and teaches them kid safety.

You should also teach him to bite, kick, yell loudly, scratch and pull hair.

And he should have safe words (it’s okay to come out of hiding) and unsafe words (it’s NOT okay to come out of hiding).

Another important one for kids. make as much noise as possible, so we can all come meet our new playmate.

Can work for grownups too. Let the good guys know there is a need for that much-discussed can of whoop-ass.
