Jordan leads war against ISIS

| February 9, 2015

The rumor is that there’s an Iraqi offensive against the Islamic State in the works under the protection of the Jordanian Air Force which has struck 56 targets in the last few days;

Jordan has vowed an “earth-shattering” response after the Sunni extremists captured one of its air force pilots, Maaz al-Kassasbeh, burned him alive and released a gruesome video of the execution.

“On the first day of the campaign to avenge our airman Maaz al-Kassasbeh, 19 targets were destroyed, including training camps and equipment,” Jobour told reporters.

The other day we talked about the United Arab Emirates dropping out of the air campaign against ISIS mainly because there were no assurances from the US that we could protect their pilots. The Emirates have moved their aircraft to Jordanian air bases to rejoin the fight;

The Reuters news agency, citing a Jordanian army source, also said that the UAE’s move would help intensify air strikes on the armed group.

“They will be based in Jordan. This is a big boost and will be helping our brothers shorten their flying distances and intensify strikes against the militants in Jordan,” the anonymous military source said.

Meanwhile, ISIS told the media that Kayla Mueller, the US hostage held by ISIS, was killed in a Jordanian airstrike.

The jihadists named the woman as Kayla Jean Mueller, saying she had been buried under rubble after a raid by a Jordanian warplane in the Syrian city of Raqa, the militant group’s self-proclaimed “capital”.

I don’t believe that. I believe she’s dead, but I suspect they murdered her before the video of the Jordainian pilot was released and the backlash was so great, that they didn’t release the video of her murder, so they made up this story instead.

While it pains me that the current administration is bumbling this issue, its about time countries in that region stood up and took responsibilty for policing what is essentually their back yard.

Amen. And it is good that the Jordanians are showing some spine. This will also encourage their fellow Muslims, who in the past showed a certain lack of intestinal fortitude unless Uncle Samuel was leading the charge.

Just them that they get to keep all of the land that they take from the IS. They get to keep the land.Also be the Kurds have lots of supplies directly delivered to them. Joe

I’m reserving judgement for the moment. They’ve got the revenge thing down pat; let’s see if the term ‘obligation’ means anything to them.

Your two sentences here are among the most concise and insightful commentary I’ve read regarding the Middle East, ever, and I’ve read a veritable shit-load about the Middle East.

Unfortunately, we already know that “obligation” ain’t in any of the local dialects, which is the whole area is in the stew it’s in…

I just wish that the clown crew in DC had even a tiny fraction of the brains and balls that Jordan is showing.

I’m sure that American woman is already dead, too. They have to prove she was in that building. My understanding is that it was used for munitions storage, so why was she there?

Yes, let Jordan keep and hold whatever territory they drive IS from, keep it forever. Let this become their fight and support them 100%.

Whoever first said, “I’d drag my nose along a gravel and glass road just to smell the tire tracks of the truck that hauled away her underwear” must have Queen Raina in mind. All hail, Queen Raina. What a honey!

Remember that Jordan has a huge refugee load, with Displaced Persons coming in because of ongoing combat and attacks. We should direct as much humanitarian aid their way as possible.
Jordan presents a kernel of reason and stability upon which to build the future of the entire region.
It is unfortunate that we did not “Smoke the Road” as IS convoyed north. The Prez in Res was golfing.
