New Year Day feel good stories
Our first story for the new year comes from Florida;
Deputies said Living Water Fellowship Church Pastor Terry Howell was meeting with maintenance worker Benjamin Parangan, 47, to fire him on Tuesday morning when a shootout erupted between the two.
During the meeting, church employees told deputies they saw Parangan take out a handgun and shoot at Howell several times, but none of the bullets hit Howell.
Deputies said Howell returned fire with his own weapon and hit Parangan.
They said the shooting is being investigated as a case of self-defense.
The next story comes from Texas;
Police got the call around 9:30pm last night at the “Best Fireworks Stand” located in the 2200 block of Highland Knolls Drive near South Mason Road.
The manager was closing for the night when he says two men pulled up in a Ford Mustang and tried to rob him. The manager then pulled out his own gun and opened fire.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office believes the robbers may be part of an even bigger robbery spree.
“I understand he robbed at least two other places tonight and shot at the complainants,” said Sgt. Scott Ashmore. “Tonight, he robbed this fireworks stand… and the owner of the establishment was armed and got into a shootout with the suspect.”
The robber who was shot was hit four times and taken to the hospital.
And yet another one from Florida;
A man walked into the 13th Street store, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money. The clerk was secretly aiming a gun at the would-be robber from underneath the counter.
The clerk fired and a bullet tore through the wooden counter. Surveillance video obtained shows the bullet came just inches from hitting the man.
The man slipped, fell, got up and tried to aim at the clerk but decided to run when the clerk opened fire again.

And then in Arkansas;
A Pulaski county man says he shot and killed a man who had broken into his home.
Pulaski County Sheriff’s Lt. Carl Minden told reporters that deputies found 25-year-old Garrett Cowsert of Sherwood dead early Tuesday outside the home between Jacksonville and Cabot.
Deputies found 21-year-old Zachary Blalock inside the home and say that Blalock told them Cowsert broke into the home and that he shot him.
And another from Arkansas;
Murrey was just looking to get some shut-eye in his North Little Rock home when he suddenly heard a noise.
“I got up, walked over here and I peeked like this, and I see the curtain kind of pulled back a little, so I said to myself…somebody is trying to break into the home,” said Murrey.
Murrey identified the intruder as Giles, a parole absconder according to North Little Rock Police.
After the first loud noise, Murrey said he grabbed his gun and called police, shortly after he heard another noise.
“I said ma’am he’s coming in the house, almost half his body is in the house, I said I’m going to shoot him…I’m going to shoot him, she said no don’t shoot him,” added Murrey. “By the time I told her I was going to shoot him, I pulled the trigger and nothing happened, the gun was on safety.”
Murrey tells Channel 7 Giles fled, but police caught him near the area of Flora Street just minutes after.

Starting off the New Year with “feel good stories” is a good thing.
Happy New Year everyone! Health and happiness (and a couple of bucks in your pocket) is all that’s needed.
I guess the perps thought that no one would be home or at work on New Year’s Eve.
Happy New Year to everyone within hearing!
Imagine! A pastor. Armed. I love it, and heartily approve. (applause)
Love it.
More Christians that aren’t pathetic pushovers are always welcome.
Jesus said to turn the other cheek – but he didn’t suggest doing it more than once. After that… cry havoc etc.
So much justice!
