EXACTO; guided small caliber bullet

Stars & Stripes reports that Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in conjunction with Teledyne Scientific & Imaging, LLC has developed a .50 caliber bullet that can change direction after it’s left the muzzle of the gun. It’s call the EXACTO (Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordnance) program;
“The objective of the EXACTO program is to revolutionize rifle accuracy and range by developing the first ever guided small-caliber bullet,” DARPA officials said in a July statement accompanying the video. “The EXACTO .50-caliber round and optical sighting technology expects to greatly extend the day and nighttime range over current state-of-the-art sniper systems.”
The specially designed ammunition can change direction in midair.
How that is done remains a tightly held secret. The Defense Department and its related agencies declined to comment.
A short DARPA video of the two test firings;
I’m not naming names, but I’ve seen some of you shoot and you need this.

“Achmed! We have just received a message from the infidels.”
“Read it!”
“Please do not move. Remain where you are. You have been targeted by an Exacto round and you must stay very still. Thanks. Have a nice day.”
I was thinking more along the line of the bullets Gene Simmons used in the movie with those creepy mechanical spiders…
I beleave the movie you are referring to is Runaway (1984), also staring Tom Selleck.
Or the “dumb-dumb” rounds Bob Hoskins used in “Who Framed Rodger Rabbitt.”
Oh my! Oh, me oh, my! whoa!
Any guesses as to the cost per round? Of course if you can send Achmed to his reward of 72 goats, even $500 bucks a shot would be a bargain.
I don’t want to know how it works!
I want to see it work and look at the aftermath photos at Live Leak!
Editors Note:
In the past shooters had to lead them for accuracy … Now they can do it for fun!
Just sayin’!
If memory serves me right they have something similar with one of the new artillery pieces. Off axis targetting to assist with TOT, I believe they called it Hardest part was getting the electronics of the guidance and manuvering package to survive the initial g-forces firing the round.

Those would be them.
Where do they get these wonderful toys? First functional laser weapon on a ship, now this.
AW1Ed…You beat ne to my burning question. And…when will they have it in a .45?
An Exacto knife is a knife used in prepres production with an extremely sharp blade. It is precise. It can be maneuvered in many directsion and fit into tight corners.
Can’t imagine why they’d name a bullet Exacto.
