Dumbest, most pointless crap ever
Police Chief Norm Jacobs of the Beloit, Wisconsin was bitten by the “good idea fairy” apparently and he wants to reduce gun crimes by asking citizens to volunteer to have their homes searched by the police for guns, according to NPR;
He…hopes the program will encourage people to think about gun violence as an infectious disease like Ebola, and a home inspection like a vaccine to help build up the city’s immune system.
“Gun violence is as serious as the Ebola virus is being represented in the media, and we should fight it using the tools that we’ve learned from our health providers,” he said.
Jacobs said he hopes some searches will result in the discovery of guns they didn’t know were in their own homes. He said that there’s also a chance they’ll find guns linked to crimes.
“That’s really what we’re looking for,” he said. “Maybe we’ll find a toy gun that’s been altered by a youngster in the house — and we know the tragedies that can occur there on occasion.”
It’s pointless, absolutely pointless. Does the chief think that criminals will call and ask the police to search for their guns? Who doesn’t know if there is a gun in their house? And, oh, yeah, let’s do it in the name of the children under the guise of protecting them from their toys. I know where all of the guns in my house are stored, I don’t need someone from the government to point them out to me. But then, the residents of Beloit aren’t all that bright anyway;
Melisha Holloway’s 20-year-old son Raymond…was killed in April. Holloway said too many young men have given up on school.
“Pretty much all those kids and young men just need to be is educated,” said Holloway. “You have a lot of them that barely read at a fifth-grade level yet they’re 25 year-old-men. But they know how to work a gun. There’s something wrong with that picture.”
Yeah, there is something wrong with that picture, mostly it has to do with parenting and succumbing to a corrupt culture. The police searching houses without guns in them isn’t going to help. The lack of parenting and the culture came from an over-arching government in the first place and surrendering to even more government meddling like this isn’t going to cure the problem. But, hey, at least they’ll all get to feel like they “did something, anything” to fix the problem.

This isn’t the first time some overreaching asshat LEO/politician has suggested this.
Hopefully it goes over as well as previous attempts.
My head hurts from reading that and its not because of my sinuses.
To quote Tombstone: “I ain’t got the words.”
Eric…Mine too and I’m headed to get a couple Tylenol. What a sheer, finely honed and tuned liberal dumbass the Police Chief is.
Can you believe that innocent taxpayers are being compelled to pay this retard?
In Wisconsin, yes. Parts of Wisconsin and Minnesota have a long history of support for socialism.
Beloit, WI, is also home to a liberal arts college (Beloit College). I’m thinking that encourages this type of idiocy as well.
Beloit is a shithole. It’s like Gary, Indiana, but slighty more nice. It’s about on par with Rockford, IL.
If they’re stupid enough to consent to the search they deserve whatever consequences they suffer.
I believe that the sheriff, who sounds like control freak a la Master Bateman, has not read Wisconsin state laws regarding GUNZ, nor does he have any common sense.

Also, I believe that what he wants to do in Beloit violate that ol’ illegal search and seizure thingy in the US Constitution. You know – the part about ‘due cause’. If he’s that paranoid about guns, he’s in the wrong bidness.
Ex-PH2: if done without consent, yes. If the resident consents, however, it’s completely legal.
As far as I’m concerned, Jacobs can go pursue carnal knowledge of himself.
I’m not going to cram my head up any other orifice, but I know they’ll use the standard justification if people don’t consent to the search:
If they don’t consent, they must be hiding something.
Hondo, the very fact that this guy is carrying a loaded firearm whilst espousing this shite should send a chill……

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
Let’s convince people that illegal police searches freely volunteered are something to be desired in American society.
And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
Some folks are definitely coming up short on balance…I think this qualifies as the 3rd sign of the apocalypse. Last thing I want is cops wandering around my house without a warrant.

Stupidity is its own reward, and anybody stupid enough to have authorities with arrest powers come in their homes for voluntary search-and-seizure get what they deserve.
I’m guessing it’s just a lonely police chief with early cabin fever. It’s rather slow for police in Beloit. And Norm has been on the job for 36 years. Beloit PD will not be mistaken for the LAPD or NYPD anytime soon. According to the department’s website, it has a Detective Division, headed up by a captain; an Operations Division, headed up by a Deputy Chief; a Patrol Division, headed up by another captain, and an Administrative Division, headed up by (you guessed it!) yet another captain. Nowhere does the website provide the number of sworn officers. However, the website police.com does. Ready? Eleven–as in 11.
I grew up 12 miles north of Beloit and currently live 15 miles east of Beloit. Beloit is city of 37,000 people. They average 1-2 murders a year but have had 6 this year. During the summer, shootings are almost weekly. Granted his idea is idiotic but one can never say that their police department is bored with nothing else better to do.

So better to waste police resources on those that are compliant, and therefor most likely not to have weapons in their homes, than spending that time pursuing actual criminals. As long as he has his priorities straight. Next, will he be asking the citizens to voluntary submit to searches for illegal drugs? Then they can submit to searches of their computers for child pornography. And be sure to check their refrigerators to make sure there is no soda in excess of 16 ounces.
They have 72 sworn officers.

Okay, that’s a Chief, Deputy Chief, and three captains for either 68 or 72 officers, depending upon whether the brass is included. Either way, that’s a helluva ratio. Oh, and Chief Norm –who must be very busy–has had his offer withdrawn by the city manager. “At this time, the department is withdrawing its offer under this initiative, and will be submitting the program to the City’s legal office for further review.” Press Release Today
Correction. The website is policeone.com
In the words of Admiral Ackbar…
It’s a Trap!
I’ll volunteer as soon as I’m allowed to root around in his house for a few hours. Maybe I can find stuff he “forgot” he had. Like his brain.
I think you’d need a proctologist to find the Police Chief’s head.
I can hear it all now, Officer. “Mr. Sparks I see you keep a Glock Model 30, loaded with jacketed hollow points and two extra clips in your nightstand. Me. “Yes sir that is correct, except those are two extra magazines, not clips.” Officer. “Mr. Sparks I see you also have a Barrett Model 82A1 in your closet, fully loaded with .50 ammunition.” Me. “Really! Really!!! Who knew? Lemme see that thing! Wow! Oh I love my wife!!! The wife got me the Christmas present I’ve been wanting! Better put it back in the wrapping paper and don’t F-up the bows and ribbons or she’ll be pissed and none of us want her pissed! Bless her heart she even loaded it for me. Makes me kind of tear up ya know. What a gal I ask you, what a woman!” Officer. “Mr. Sparks do you really think you need a .45 AND a .50 rifle in your home? I mean considering the state of gun violence and of course, let’s not forget…the children (as a tear comes to his eye)”. Me. “Well do I need them? No I suppose not. Do I want them and have the right to own them? You bet your asses! Would I harm someone for no reason? Of course not! Never been arrested, never would hurt a soul without reason.” Officer. “Well then Mr. Sparks, what if you felt there WAS a reason? Would you harm someone then?” Me. “If my family or I were threatened and I feared for our lives…no I would not HARM someone. I would however, killed them outright, dead, dead and then dead again and they’d be dead before the echo dies away! Does that answer your question? Been nice talking to you fellas, be safe out there on patrol and remember, clean your own weapons once in a while. Officer Dunkin’ over there has what appears to be rust spots on the hammer of that old .38 wheel gun and dried jelly keeping it stuck in his holster. Not a good idea for a… quick response ya know. Like… Read more »
OR – “Mr. Sparks with so much fire power, what in the world are you afraid of?”
Mr. Sparks – “Not a f**king thing.”
There, FIFY.

I could just murder a cheeseburger with mustard, onion and pickles right now. And really crispy fries do not stand a chance against me.
Make that 2…can I get some bacon and a side of BBQ sauce too?
Norm Jacobs separated at birth from Nancy Pelosi?
Hello? Is dis da Poh-leese? Yahs, I wuz wonderin if you coulds sends a Pa-Trolle buy mah house ta looks fo some guns? How am Ah s’pose to essercise my Constimatutional Rights widdout Mah Gat! Thanx Man, Peace out!
Meanwhile, as they pretend to be doing something significant about “violence,” how many people will be killed with vehicles? More than are killed with the evil guns? If so, perhaps inventorying the number of vehicles not involved in violence should be a priority. Makes as much sense as searching for guns also not involved in violence.
What the F*** Did I just Read?
Nothing. Really. They made it go away late today. Norm is looking for a new project.
You know, if they REALLY want to do something, they could get out of the squad cars and patrol on foot or bicycle.
Not only would those fat bastards get some exercise, people would actually view them as human instead of whatever else they are.
So when they find a bunch of other (currently…) illegal items, they will do what? So many search and seizure issues here, I bet the legal types in the county are losing their minds over this…
