Russia extends bomber patrols

Russia

Apparently the Russians have never heard of the Monroe Doctrine, or they just don’t care about it, according to a link to CNN sent to us by Pinto Nag;

Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said Wednesday that “we have to maintain (Russia’s) military presence in the western Atlantic and eastern Pacific, as well as the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico” — including sending bombers “as part of the drills.” Shoigu added that Russia will also boost its security in Crimea, the region it annexed from Ukraine earlier this year.

“In many respects, this is connected with the situation in Ukraine, with fomentation of anti-Russian moods on the part of NATO and reinforcement of foreign military presence next to our border,” Shoigu said.

Sounds a little too testosterony for my liking, but I’m sure it doesn’t rattle the current administration because nothing has happened yet.

Meanwhile Russia is also planning a new media outlet called “Sputnik” says Fox News;

The new “Sputnik” network reportedly will involve radio broadcasts and websites staffed by hundreds of workers from offices in 25 international cities. An English-version website already has been launched, and includes a heavy dose of the world-according-to-Moscow.

A lead headline Thursday morning blared, “Russian Troops Never Crossed Ukrainian Border: Foreign Ministry.” That’s in response to NATO allegations that Russia was sending fresh troops and tanks into eastern Ukraine. Another headline warned how immigrants to the United States “lack protection” and “face violence.” Yet another declared: “Russia, Unlike the US, Recognizes Iran as Growing Power: Middle East Expert.”

They’re also increasing spending on their RT media venture, because there’s not enough propaganda in our news, i suppose.

Spending on propaganda from RT? They’re wasting money, the alphabet networks here will do the work, free, with smiles on their faces.

I think that if one of their bombers *accidentally* “crashed” while on maneuvers in or around the U.S. that would be just tragic.

And of course we would have had nothing to do with it.

/jes saying is all.

Poetrooper

How about an “unfortunate” mid-air collision between a Russian Bear and an unmanned American aircraft?

AW1Ed

The AIM-120 AMRAAM is an unmanned American aircraft.

Legans

Unmanned American aircraft like an AIM-9?

I’m old enough to remember a dark past concerning the Russians, and to be very uneasy with Russia flying bombers anywhere near the Americas. And yet… the old saying about my enemy’s enemy is my friend. The Russians have no use for jihadists either, and they have the intestinal fortitude to do what needs to be done about them. It would be a cold and loveless marriage, but…maybe tolerating the Russians presence in this hemisphere would be a good idea now? I would very much like to hear others thoughts about this.

Sure, Vlad heard of the Monroe Doctrine. He also heard John ‘Jungle Stroll w/ Cameraman’ Kerry say at the OAS, “The era of the Monroe Doctrine is over.” (Nov 18, 2013) Not that it matters. I mean, even if this administration hadn’t declared the doctrine dead, the Golfer in Mom Jeans wouldn’t have done squat. I had thought that the movie Red Dawn was fiction. In fact, it may prove to be a documentary that was well ahead of actual events. It’s all impossible until the chutes deploy.

In a related story, the Obama administration announced today that NORAD will scale back operations in order to fund more important programs such as: Obama Phone; Food Stamps; Mary Jane Prescriptions; Unplanned Fatherless Parenthood; Post Incarceration Cultural Awareness Training; Border Crossing 101 for Foriegners Courses; How to Buy, Sell and Trade Black Market Firearms from Home Using the Internet Certification Program; and other initiatives …

Look like the Bear may be trying to wake up from hibernation.

Duck and cover!

nbcguy54

Looks like the good old days are back. Unfortunately we aren’t equipped to play any more.

NHSparky

Mister Obama, tear down this wall!

Mother Russia has deep social & economic problems…suppose they need to boost morale somehow.

Old Trooper

That’s what I was thinking.

Phil

I agree. This is more for internal Russian consumption than any actual military goal.

TX Gunner

I hope those Russain pilots have brushed up on their water survival and emergency egress training. They are going to crash one of those flying trash cans in the Gulf sure as the world!

Poetrooper

Every new provocation by the Russians can be traced back to a single source: the spineless, incompetent metrosexual in the oval orifice.

The only good thing that may come of all this is that the world will hopefully realize that when evil old imperialistic America abdicates her superpower role, the bad guys waste no time in taking advantage of her absence.

Aggression is at the very core of being of every tyrant who ever lived and it takes a great deal of economic and military power to hold such aggression in check.

The Other Whitey

The Glorious Leader sure did a fine job implementing that “reset” with Russia. He’s reset us right back to 1962! Nice job, Barry! We were getting complacent without the shadow of the nuclear war to end all wars hanging over our heads! I, for one, feel so much better now!

Hondo

Yer off by about 140 years, TOW. More like reset back to 1822 and before – e.g., as in before the Monroe Doctrine.

two comments:

I clearly recall the Cold War and it wasn’t fun. I remember “duck and cover”. I remember bomb shelters and the DEW line and fighter patrols over western Alaska, Phantoms on the hot pads at the eastern end of the long runway at Elmendorf, and the downing of flight KAL007 and Shemya Island and a thousand other things. In the 1990s the Russians had a bad decade. It is now the 2010s and, thanks to our largely absent president, we are having a bad decade.

I recall 444 days. And on January 20, 1981, Iran released the hostages. Reagan said that he would bomb them back to the virus age if they didn’t and they believed him. Mr. Obama has achieved his apparent goal – nobody believes him and for the most part, nobody listens to him either.

I cannot wait for a president who talks and acts like he is on our side. I cannot wait for an American president who knows, as Russia has already learned, that communism, as a political and economic system, does not work.
