Phony Vietnam vet: Don’t be fooled by real GWOT vet
So, Tom Harkin, the fellow who is retiring from his Senate seat in Iowa this year warned voters to not be fooled by Joni Ernst. Of course, Tom Harkin is famous in our circle for lying about his military service as a pilot in Vietnam. Joni Ernst, on the other hand, hasn’t lied about her service as a company commander whose troops ferried supplies from Kuwait into Iraq in the early days of the Iraq War. From Buzz Feed;
“In this Senate race, I’ve been watching some of these ads,” Harkin said at the Story County Democrats’ annual fall barbecue last week honoring the retiring senator. “And there’s sort of this sense that, ‘Well, I hear so much about Joni Ernst. She is really attractive, and she sounds nice.’”
“Well I gotta to thinking about that. I don’t care if she’s as good looking as Taylor Swift or as nice as Mr. Rogers, but if she votes like Michele Bachmann, she’s wrong for the state of Iowa.”
But at least she doesn’t lie about her military service like Tom Harkin. Is that what Iowa wants?

As soon as Harry Reid said control of the Senate hinges on Iowa, they announce Ernst had opened up a 7-point lead.
Coincidence? You decide.
Tommy-boy is a lying sack of shit. Always has been, always will be. If Iowans are dumb enough to believe him, they deserve what they get.
Here’s hoping my relatives in that state get it right this time.
Good Morning Senator Harkin,
Now that the pleasantries are out of the way; GFY.
Dipshit
3E9…ROTFLMAO! Thank you, I needed that this morning! May I borrow your sentiment for future use?

By all means feel free to use as appropriate!
I was driving Friday evening and listening to Mark Levin. LTC. Ernst was a guest on his show. I enjoyed listening to her. I guess one of her campaign ads says something along the lines of “I’m Joni Ernst and I grew up on an Iowa farm castrating pigs. Send me to Washington DC, and I will cut some pork.” I hope to hell she wins.
Maybe her experience on the farm with pigs will come in handy dealing with fake veterans.
I’d vote for someone with the balls to run that ad.
Pun intended.
Gravel…A big ROGER THAT sir!
Dear Senator Harkin:
What 3E9 above said.
Nothing follows.
Yep, yep. Ditto.
‘”One year was in Vietnam. I was flying F-4s and F-8s on combat air patrols and photo-reconnaissance support missions.”‘ These comments were later published in a 1981 book by David Broder. After subsequent inquiries by Barry Goldwater and The Wall Street Journal, Harkin clarified that he had been stationed in Japan and sometimes flew recently repaired aircraft on test missions over Vietnam. His service flying F-4s and F-8s was later, while he was stationed at U.S. Naval Base Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.”
Iowans don’t give a shit. After 10 years in the House, Harkin was elected to the Senate in 1985. That’s a total of 40 years on the public dole. (“Along with California Senator Barbara Boxer, Harkin was one of only two Senate Democrats to come out in favor of Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold’s resolution to censure President George W. Bush.”)

Translated: Harkin is a lying liar who lies. And ate at the public trough for 40 plus years. Good riddance you old scoundrel!
Show me an officer who did six years as a pilot during the Vietnam era and comes away with only a NDSM, and I’ll show you a grade Z turd.
YMMV.
Senator Harkin:
DON’T forget to GFY while you’re cleaning out your desk and office after Election Day!!
Harkin is right about one thing, she is attractive. Since I’m damn near deaf these days, I’ll take his word for it that she sounds nice. From what I’ve read in transcripts, she makes more sense than Braley, who seems to think a law degree is a prerequisite for office.
As someone who lives in Mass and was here during the Ted Kennedy years, I can say honestly that if folks in Iowa want a Ted Kennedy state Tom Harkin should get their vote. If you want some idea what that looks like at ground level, let me know I’ll be glad to share my experiences.
I should point out that my experience indicates a Ted Kennedy legacy for your state will really be a negative experience for you if you actually pay taxes and have a real job.
Or if you like riding as a passenger in a car that transits small bridges.
Remember the National Lampoon ad which showed a floating VW Beetle that said “If Teddy Kennedy had one of our cars, he’d be President today?”
But I thought you loved the Taxachusettes experience, VOV. What gives? (smile)
I like where I live a great deal, I’ve got four grandkids here and I’m not likely to leave that behind for sunshine or lower taxes. I get to volunteer a lot of my time for a youth sports organization that serves over a dozen communities in my area…so there are those good things that I love about Massachusetts.
But I think you know my thoughts on the government aspect….I keep trying to fight from inside the beast though, perhaps one day my sword will split the belly open and we’ll get some rational experience.
(sigh) And I thought ye were a bit auld t’be a believin’ in Leprechauns.
Oh, well – to each his own. Me, I prefer to live in a free society vice a People’s Republic. Hope to get the chance to do that again in a few years.
If a republican had made the above statement about her looks, you know the dems would be howling at the moon screaming gender bias, or whatever that tired drum is they beat.
Further evidence of just who is conducting the real war on women. Objectify women much, Senator? Oh, sure. This is probably the very first time. Uh-huh.
I was thinking the same thing. Republican War on Women? He might as well have told her to head back to the kitchen. Hey Tom, what 3E9 said above and have a nice life you worthless leech.
I live in Iowa, and I was on the first trip then-CPT Ernst made into Iraq. First week after “The end of major combat operations”, and we were in un-armored 5-ton semis, and she was in a soft-sided Humvee. Our heavy weapons were M16s. On that trip, we saw no action, received no fire. But, I gotta say there was a serious pucker factor. We got on the tail end of a 100-vehicle convoy, and I don’t think they knew we were even there. Made the run back from Bagdad with just our five vehicles. She never flinched, and listened to those of us with more experience, then made her decisions. She has not embellished her record, to my knowledge, at any point. She was my company commander, and recently my son’s battalion CO. I trust her, and will be voting for her tomorrow.
Ernst lied about her military service, repeatedly saying her “National Guard Service” was the reason she missed 117 of 195 votes. Her lying is no better than any other politician who lies about the military service to try to make themselves look good. She’s a disgrace and does great dishonor to the millions of men and women who have served our country. http://thegazette.com/subject/news/government/iowa/legislature/few-of-ernsts-missed-iowa-senate-votes-due-to-national-guard-duty-20140414
