Discipline for Utah Guardsmen in bikini video
A couple of weeks ago we wrote about the “risque” video shot on a Utah military military base. Today from the Stars & Stripes we hear that four Guardsmen are being disciplined for their participation;
Guard Lt. Col. Steven Fairbourn said Saturday that a 19th Special Forces non-commissioned officer who inappropriately allowed the video to be partially shot at Camp Williams in May has been relieved of his leadership position and faces a reprimand and mandatory early retirement.
The three other soldiers will receive lesser measures ranging from counseling to a reprimand, he said. The $200 cost for military fuel used during the shoot also will be recouped from the soldiers involved.
Fairbourn earlier said the three members took part in the video after getting permission from a senior official who shouldn’t have given them the green light.
That makes perfect sense – they get disciplined for getting permission from the wrong officer. It looks like two members of the State’s SWAT team are in trouble for their participation, too.

So I wonder what’s to become of the “senior official” involved in the “okay guys” decision?
Probably a commendation since you can bet your bottom dollar that he ratted them out.
I think you’re spot on there LT. Probably got the MSM.
Nepotism Sparks. After 13 years active duty I converted to AGR for my last 7. There were more, Dad’s, Son’s, Uncle’s, Cousin’s and Nephews than you could shake a stick out. You couldn’t throw a rock without hitting someone’s relative.
jerry920…I wasn’t in the Guard but from what I’ve heard from those who are and were you’re correct, nepotism is often alive and well.
Well, despite the entertainment value (+++), it was pretty stupid. On the other hand, they made no apparent attempt to hide certain identifying so it’s not as if they were trying to hide. Yeah, I guess that was the stupid part.
Seems to me that the stupid part was in trusting that permission given by a superior officer had any meaning.
I like the video!
Green Thumb…My only question and desire in this matter is as follows. If the gals in the video also need, to be “disciplined”, because of their part in this infraction, can I PLEASE VOLUNTEER to provide said “disciple” to ’em?! 😀 Oh the thoughts, images, imaginations and memories that would give to an old fart like me. I’d be set for the rest of my life! At my age I don’t even need to touch, as much as just look. You know, to be sure they pass any future inspection requirements and regulations. I’m trying to look out for my fellow “males” to be sure they get the very finest.
Yes, sometimes I think like a cad and chauvinist. But, “You can’t always get what you want. But if you try sometime you find…You get what you need.”
Four guys to pay back $200… four women, that works out to $12.50 each. I am thinking the guys got one HELL of a deal. (Color me an unrepentant oldtimer, too.)
I can see this running two ways.
#1-“Guys, in public, we gotta punish and reprimand you for what you did”,
#2-“But just between you and me and the brick wall, how was it? Were they hotties? Or what? Way to go!”
And to echo Sparks, “Who WAS that masked Senior Official?”
At times like this, I’m reminded of the quote, possibly apocryphal, attributed to Patton: “An Army that can’t (fornicate) can’t fight.”
The man knew war. Perhaps we should listen to him
We must devolve our military to a collection of plaster saints appropriate for nothing other than looking pretty in parades.
You know, like Europe.
There’s a book out by one of Patton’s command staff, I forget his name, called “Patton’s Principles: Business Tips for Bosses who MEAN IT” (at least, I think that’s the title).
There are a lot of great maxims from that, such as “Don’t order your men to do anything that you wouldn’t do yourself first”, “Always stay active”, and stuff like that, plus with great stories to accompany it to give credence to the tale.
Seriously, pick it up, because Patton was a bloody genius. I really wish he hadn’t died in ’45, things would be different today.
One of those “If you have to ask permission, the answer is NO” kind of deals perhaps?
In a related story, the four Sailors involved in filming a ghey Navy video in a West Village Leather Club to the tune “In the Navy” have all been meritoriously promoted and will now run the Pentagon’s new office of “LGBT and BDS&M Integration and Advanced Readiness Initiative”.
As with many things in “Today’s Army,” it is OK until the press gets a hold of it and the PC crowd screams.
That crowd can be one person who gets a sound bite and then the ball starts rolling. Then the $hit starts rolling…downhill of course and the old Army principle of CYA and finger pointing is put into play.
I hope they file suit for discrimination. They have a pretty good case.
How fucking ridiculous.
Suit for discrimination by—? The men? Or the women?
This is not the military I served in and loved. A few years back an asshole Coast Guard CW2 had a problem with me (as an Aux volunteer and lifejacket guru) posing some Hooters girls appropriately attired for a photo with my new automatic life jacket display. Can any of you think of a better way to get the attention of Southern anglers? This prick, with limited enlisted time, acted worse than a 2nd Lt. In case anyone at CG Alameda reads this blog, he is (or was) on one of your cutters as a CW3.
I hope that the metrosexuals that decided to punish those Men live the rest of their lives in interesting times!! My assumption is that they’re sniveling metrosexual PC types that would have been fine with them making some LGBT kind of crap, but they shit themselves about something so blatantly Heterosexual!!
As mentioned by you and MCPO NYC above, if they had made an on-post video featuring gay-priding queers and butchees, they would have all received ARCOMs…
It’s Utah, is anyone really surprised?
Meanwhile, the Utah National Guard’s endstrength surged to 107%
This doesn’t surprise me in the least either.
Seems like Dean Wormer has won, “No more fun of any kind…..”
I dunno about you guys, but I don’t see anything wrong with the video.
What the hell, command staff? They’re just using their First Amendment rights to make some moto stuff.
Good ol’ boy system runs amok in the Guard. I watched people who were wholly unqualified for jobs get them because they had climbed up some light colonel’s ass or they were his/her niece/nephew/cousin/brother. I saw people coming off active duty passed over for AGR slots that were then handed out to political connected toadies. I can’t speak for every state headquarters but mine was a pit of vipers and if you didn’t have a sea daddy (so to speak) you were going to get bit.
