Wednesday feel good story
Chief Tango sends us our feel good story this morning, this time it happened in Ohio (video report at the link). A business owner had his building looted the other night, some power tools were lost. The owner figured the fellow would be back for the rest, and that happened at about 10 PM.
The business owner confronted him and one shot was fired. Pellets from the shotgun blast hit the guy in the butt. Police say the burglar was Kevin Henderson.
[Says the owner:] You always go with your gut. I don’t believe shooting someone to kill; shooting them in the butt is a good idea.

Shoot to wound? Not what I was ever taught, but as Mr. Garrison would say…mmmkay. Glad it worked out for the store owner here.
In this case, getting caught was a pain in the ass for the thief!
Here in Minnesota, the business owner would be charged with aggravated assault, because he planned his actions. He suspected the robber would be back and armed himself to assault the robber, instead of having law enforcement handle it, which is called pre-meditation and they would have arrested him.
Not saying it’s right or wrong, just stating reality.
That sounds messed up. He didn’t go outside and drag the bag guy inside and shoot him, the bad guy broke into a locked building to steal stuff. Regardless of what the MN courts hold, guarding your property inside a locked building does not meet my personal standard for premeditation.
And thats part of whats wrong with America today. When law abiding citizens make an effort to protect what is theirs they face potential prosecution for pre-meditation, not sying that is what happened in this particular case. To be honest with you I would not be surprised if the wounded jagoff in this case attempts to sue the business owner in civil court for wrongful injury or some other ludacris offenses.
Glad I don’t live in MN. I have zero tolerance for people like Henderson.
However, I do admire the business owner’s restraint and aim.
Too bad Henderson didn’t turn around at the last second and lose his “package” instead of his butt. Then he couldn’t further propagate his genes.
“I don’t believe shooting someone to kill.” In my state that can get the owner charged. If he had the opportunity to let the burglar flee the way he came, which a butt shot indicates, he should not have fired…in my state anyway. Now the burglar has “his side of the story” to tell. Bad news in a court when the wrong jury hears all the evidence and character testimony of friends and family of how he was a good guy, struggling to turn his life around and especially, if the defense is successful which again, in my state, is often, in getting all priors stricken from testimony so as not to unduly influence the jury.
I cannot condemn the owner’s convictions. However, would the burglar have shown the same restraint and mercy to him? Most often, no.
If you are going to shoot, either shoot to kill or don’t shoot at all. Picking up my weapon for the purpose of self and family defense is a dire decision in my mind and I accept the possibilities. If I take aim, I am willing to kill or destroy what I aim at. If I put my bugger hook in the trigger guard, I intend to fire until the threat is no longer a threat. If I get that far and fire, there will only be one story told…mine.
Sound harsh to some but I learned from watching others and personal family experiences I will get no where showing mercy to someone who intends no mercy to me and mine.
Shooting to wound is not a good idea. The guy will probably get a year at most and then be back out on the street quite possibly looking for revenge but this time going in armed and shooting to kill.
I would doubt that the puke has the same feelings about shooting to wound that the business owner has…
He will probably return to his life of crime and will now be alive to invade someone else’s home or business with deadly results…
