Talk About Bad Timing
Headline from the cover of the issue of Dallas Weekly magazine released on 25 September:
“Taste of Africa Comes to Dallas”
Yeah, the timing on that one . . . kinda sucks. They obviously didn’t have a working crystal ball.
Category: Pointless blather, Reality Check, Who knows
As we say on the comedy circuit …
“Timing is everything!”
If it weren’t so awful, it would be funny.
I found it darkly humorous, actually. But then, I tend to be a fan of dark humor. I find it keeps me from blowing a gasket at tragedy caused by idiocy.
A little inside baseball on this Dallas Ebola thing.
The apartment that patient zero was staying in is smack dab in the middle of about 250 acres of Section 12 apartment housing.
There is a big Walmart and Sams Club complex probably less than 1/2 mile from this apartment. There is a Super Target also as close. Northpark shopping mall is probably about 1/2 to 3/4 mile away. Point being, that someone who comes out of a shithole in W. Africa was probably given the grand tour of USA Materialism by visiting a few of the nearby shrines immediately following his arrival.
“Top Golf”, which has been mentioned in connection with Dennis Chevalier, is also about 1/2 mile from the apartment.
One of the Elementary Schools of concern, in that a child who had close contact with patient zero, is the same elementary school that I attended until 4th grade.
This section of Dallas used to be nice apartments full of upwardly mobile young professionals. Section 12 housing vouchers put an end to that. I was not living in Dallas when Katrina rolled into the Gulf, but I have been told that the character of the neighborhood was changed drastically by the arrival of the Katrina Refugees from NO.
I met a guy recently in the Sams Club parking lot who is a recent immigrant from Iraq. He used to live in Erbil and came with his wife and 6 children. He lives in this same neighborhood of Section 12 apartments.
Not sure that’s a taste I’m interested in at the moment….lately there is very little good coming from that continent.
You know I love big city ass wipes with their Cuisine Columns. NOT! A Taste Of Africa. Yea like a taste of Scottish culinary favorites. Haggis comes to mind, a real crowd pleaser there! Africa? What’s on the menu? Monkey, Bat, Road Kill, and for dessert, tree bark wrapped in moist packed sand and those black things aren’t cracked pepper…they’re dead flies.
One poster keeps on saying section 12. What is that? Do they mean section 8? I think its safe to say the Taste of Africa was planned long ago. Honestly, who the hell would be interested? Cant wait to read about all the shootings and crime. You cant have a bunch of blacks and not have 911 ringing off the hook. Am I racist or truthful?
Not sure. Believe I’ve heard about section 12 housing as well as section 12 mental evaluations, but don’t know the context and have no desire to look and see.
Regarding your comment: if it isn’t racist, it’s certainly borderline IMO.
The CDC warns on its website to avoid travel to Liberia, Sierra Leone, and that other cesspool whose name escapes me. It’s the first piece of advice regarding Ebola (not Ebol-ee, Mr. President Genius) and international travel. I’m no medical guy but I would have to guess that it’s the people, not the inanimate objects, one would be in contact with in those countries that prompts the advice. So, how in the blue blazes can it be okay with the CDC that inhabitants of and visitors to those countries come here? Go figure. I can’t.
