Holder to investigate Foley murder

| August 22, 2014

James Foley

Fox News reports that Eric Holder, the Attorney General, has announced that he’s going to lunch an investigation into the beheading of journalist James Foley.

“This is more nonsense,” Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., an Iraq war veteran, said in a statement to FoxNews.com. “What’s most aggravating is that either in Foley’s situation, or the other Americans in captivity, the Defense Department is being forced to take a backseat to the FBI and DOJ.”

Charles Krauthammer compared this to FDR announcing that he’s going to launch an investigation to bring the Japanese pilots at Pearl Harbor to justice. I guess when you’re a lawyer, everything looks like a nail (mixed metaphor acknowledged), but this is an act of war, not a legal issue.

Secretary of Defense Chuck Obvious is not up to the task of waging war, which makes him a perfect fit for this administration, but neither is Eric Holder able to wage war.

What no one is acknowledging is that Foley was executed because the Obama Administration wouldn’t facilitate the ransom exchange, which is proper, we don’t negotiate with terrorists, but they did meet the demands of the Haqqani Network for the release of Bowe Bergdahl – paid a high price for the exchange, so they sent a mixed message to our enemies. The murder of Foley was to get their attention again.

I think it’s cute that Secretary Obvious thinks that we can destroy the ISIS/ISIL/Islamic State by attacking them in Syria – that group is fighting against the Syrian government and towards our own goal of removing Assad from his presidency. It’s all pretty confusing – we’re arming the Syrian rebels who are intermixed with the ISIS folks. A year ago we were ready to launch air attacks in support of ISIS in retaliation for chemical attacks that we perceived to have been committed by the Syrian government.

But all of that will be clear, because the Justice Department will now be driving our strategy in the region. The only thing that could screw it all up is if they put Bite Me in charge of getting answers – remember Biden was the fellow responsible for the collapse of talks with the Iraq government for keeping US troops in Iraq which caused this whole mess in the first place.

Man, these thing just write themselves don’t they. Where do I start…

“How do I loath thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height….”

Climb to Glory

Good god, what a bunch of idiots. Holder’s investigation will probably reveal that white tea-party members were responsible. Most likely he’ll find out that Foley wasn’t a black kid or that the deceased was a border patrol agent killed because of his incompetence and he’ll lose interest. Nothing will come of this.

jerry920

Kind if like “Fast and Furious”? Yep, move along, nothing to see here…

Flagwaver

DOJ will probably deem it suicide and fine the family to recompense the investigation.

Hack Stone

Are you sure that this can’t be blamed on work place violence? After all, this all transpired while he was performing his duties as a journalist.

nbcguy54

Should be OSHA investigating instead of DOJ.

Ex-PH2

Someone please tell me that this whole thing is going to blow up in their faces before long.

Oh, wait – I think I already said that some place else.

Old Trooper

No, Ex, it’s going to blow up in our faces, just like 9/11, because Clinton treated the first WTC bombing, The saudi barracks bombing, the African Embassy bombings, and the USS Cole attack as crimes, not acts of war. That’s how we ended up with 9/11. Plus, the parallels with over-stayed visas, etc., by the bad guys that perpetrated 9/11 and compare that to our open Southern Border and you can see we’re just begging for another big attack on our soil.

Hondo

Old Trooper: agreed. Treating terrorism and acts of war as “law enforcement matters” is abjectly stupid.

But did you really expect anything else from the klown krewe “fine group of upstanding, competent individuals” running things in DC these days?

Old Trooper

Nope, I didn’t.

Hondo

Me either. And that’s pretty damn sad.

Former 11B

I have to disagree with this, to a certain extent. ISIS is obviously a military problem which needs to be handled by the Military, but the scumfuck coward in a mask who cut off Foley’s head needs to be identified. We know he spoke with a British accent. He might be on an MI5 watchlist or a list of Muslims who have left the UK to join up with ISIS. If that’s the case the DOJ might be better equipped to deal with Britain’s counter terror law enforcement apparatus than the DOD.

OLDAV8R

I realize that the intel community hasn’t exactly covered themselves with glory over the past few years, but there are plenty of US and Allied assets with the capability and the responsibility for this type of work. The DOJ on the other hand can’t/won’t investigate the things that it IS responsible for. Holder is a pathetic political hack. Someone needs to tell him to sit down and STFU.

Former 11B

The DOJ has a section called the Office of Justice for Victims of Overseas Terrorism, so this definitely falls within their wheelhouse. The CIA, NSA, DOD, and whomever else can spare resources should all be involved. I want this cocksucker identified and neutralized.

Ex-PH2

See what I posed below.

Ex-PH2

Well, fellas, I was only partly referring to the way the ISers like to blindside people, the way they did/are doing with their blitzkrieg in Iraq.

I feel, as do you, that there is an undercurrent going on in this country, and the NATO keg bombers, the Boston Marathon bombers, and that idiot who wanted to blow up a night club in Chicago with a backpack bomb were mere test runs for the real thing. The flash mobs of teens invading downtown Chicago are another example.

And just how long would it take to distract every metroplitan fire department in every big city with major fires at empty warehouses and strip malls, with fires that take hours to put out?

Why is it that a peaceful protest by locals is turned into a major riot by out-of-towners?

This isn’t paranoia, it’s just alertness. And none of those things are coincidences, either. Don’t kid yourselves.

The flip side of this is the bad karma this slacker administration has been building up for itself since 2008. There is such a thing as karmic backlash, you know, and it’s piling up.

I have no idea what possessed Asshat Holder to make an idiotic announcement like this one, but he did.

While it may make thugs like the ISers think this country is weak at the knees, we, its people, are NOT.

Hondo

DoJ: Department of Jokes.

James in Gulf Breeze

Isn’t it the height of arrogance to think that US laws apply in another country?? The law deals with internal issues – Diplomacy deals with international issues – and War is diplomacy through other means…

Old Trooper

As for the feds investigating this as a crime? Yeah, I think they should send at least 40 FBI agents over there to interview as many ISIS members as possible. I’m sure they’re willing to cooperate with us and bring about justice for James Foley.

Hondo

OK by me – if the FBI agents use this mode of transportation for the final leg of their journey:

68W58

Make it IRS investigators-the FBI agents might come in useful some day.

David

Might be mistaken but I believe that last crewman “MAJ Kong? MAJ Kong?” was a very young James Earl Jones – he was in the crew.

I read where Kong’s part was originally offered to Dan Blocker, who turned it down because he thought the movie was liberal trash. Then it went to Pickens.. who was if anything more conservative.

Hondo

David: I’ve also read that Kubrick put one over on George C. Scott (he played Gen. Turgidson). Allegedly, Kubrick had Scott do some intentionally “whacky” scenes as “practice” in order to “loosen up” and get ready for the real scenes.

Wanna guess which scenes ended up in the movie? Or why Scott’s scenes are sometimes way over-the-top?

David

more “Strangelove” lore – thanks!

Sapper3307

wata way to go.

rb325th

Let me make this easy for that idiot Holder… Those who killed the journalist are War Criminals, and engaged in a War against the United States. The War should be prosecuted by men and woman with guns in their hands, not him.
IDIOCY!

Green Thumb

Maybe Holder should investigate All-Points Logistics and their CEO, Commander Phil Monkress and his senior staff.

The money and time will be well spent and might actually help the American citizen and taxpayer.

That is if they are not to busy defending VA physicians who practice outside the scope of their licenses.

StBernardnot

Man, I feel so intelligent, when I what our gov does. lol.

StBernardnot

oops! when I see what our gov does

CC Senor

I liked it better the first way. Like our government, always keep ’em guessing.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

What’s there to investigate, it’s not like some obscure fucking mystery here folks….they videotaped it and published it on the internet. They’re not trying to hide who is responsible.

So, I’ll take a wild guess and see how close I come. I think some muslim zealots working for ISIS killed this guy. That makes ISIS a criminal conspiracy and an enemy participant in acts of war against the US. That allows the US to hunt them down en masse and destroy them and anyone supporting them along with any infrastructure used to support their efforts.

Don’t worry Mr. Holder, I’m available over the weekend as well if you have any more questions.

UpNorth

Holder is more interested in invoking the RICO statutes against ISIS than dropping those nasty, evil bombs on them.

James in Gulf Breeze

I think you assume too much competence On Mr. Holder’s behalf… I am sure he could find a way to blame this on Mr. Foley without even trying hard.

GDContractor

“What’s there to investigate, it’s not like some obscure fucking mystery here folks….they videotaped it and published it on the internet.”
Yeah but an electronic countermeasures expert like our BOLO Lt. Cpl. (with the FBI coffee mug) could get that video tossed out of court faster than you could say Gruyèregasm. Have you ever considered that just maybe ISIS’s YouTube account was HACKED Mr. Smart Guy? Don’t answer, you might purger yourself. SWEADEN!!! SWEADEN!!!

Pinto Nag

So are you saying that Holder is attempting to develop the legal groundwork to use the same methods to deal with ISIS here as we are using in the ME?

MGySgtRet.

Uh, yeah, how exactly is he going to investigate?? Send FBI agents to the region to dust for prints?? You would have to be on a big shit list to get that assignment.

We should be investigating how to get a carrier air group or two into the Persian Gulf so we can bomb ISIS around the goddamn clock.

Stacy0311

After Eric the Red’s investigation, he’ll conclude that it was racism and immediately set up a gun walking program to ISIS. Since the name “Fast and Furious” is seriously compromised, he’ll name it something like “Slow and Mendacious” or “Weak and Vacillitating” or possibly “Stupid and Incompetent” to reflect the administrations values and tactics.

This issue brings to mind our use of Law of War detention, and to a lesser extent, a justification for using GTMO or other similarly-situated facility. During the Bush years, the government treated the conflict with AQ as a war vice criminal operation. As such, we could send whoever ie military, law enforcement, etc to capture enemy combatants in the context of war operations and hold them until the conflict ends. Under the Military Commission Act of 2009 (signed by President Obama), we could prosecute and try the perpetrators in a military court. Such action would be both feasible and legally justified if the government so chose to go this route with these ISIS guys who clearly committed war crimes. Evidently, they are choosing the criminal model.

Hondo

JAGC: frankly, I’d prefer we opt for other options allowed under the Law of War. Like physically eliminating the bastards and their equipment via kinetic means.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Kinetic energy is good, burning is also good.

There is a symbolism in having the great satan burn your people to death in large quantities on a regular basis.

If they really want to identify us as the great satan, unleashing the fires of hell is a truly appropriate, karmic, response.

IMHO

Hondo

VOV: engaging a target with incendiary munitions is a type of kinetic engagement. Likewise the use of chemical explosives, bullets, shrapnel (from artillery or bombs), and the blast wave associated with the detonation of a nuclear warhead.

JAGC

Hondo: Yes, the Law of Armed Conflict is certainly warranted and effective. But there is something to say about picking some of these guys up, questioning them for as long as necessary, and when that’s all done, hauling them into court to hold them accountable for war crimes.

Hondo

I think a more eloquent statement would be for large numbers of them to die in place, very suddenly, during the destruction of their equipment and facilities. And for another group to simply disappear, never to be seen again.

But that’s just me.

nbcguy54

JAGC – where are we going to put them? While I’m a law-abiding citizen and usually believe that what makes the US great is our ability to usually not stoop to the lower levels like our enemies, in this instance I’m still a fan of my “When in Rome” Doctrine. Of course that is predicated on the notion that we take the fight to their house, not waiting for them to show up at ours.

David

lots of cinder blocks in the world, and the Marianas could be a tad shallower if its bottom was paved with blocks ‘n bodies. Bet we run out of them before we run out of Trench

nbcguy54

Let’s hope so…

JAGC

I personally would just stick with GTMO.

I’ll say what everyone has, this is an act of war, not a criminal matter. This administration is more and more a clown’s pull it out of my ass, joke every day. So if they caught the guy, do they execute him where found or bring him back to the U.S. for a trial under our laws which he rejects and is not subject to as an enemy combatant anyway? I am tired of monkeying around with these merciless, cockroach animals. Bomb them back to the century they want to live in religiously and institutionally. If they want to live that life, then with it comes, no electricity, no cell phones, nothing more than candles and wood fires. Screw all of them and kill them all and the quicker the better. MOABs everywhere, napalm until they love the smell more than Robert Duvall and B-52 2000 pound loads until the ruble that’s left bounces…twice. Once they crawl out of the few caves a few can survive in, maybe the rest in them in the world will learn they can have the religion they want but screw with America and this will be your fate as well. This world needs some changing fast. Europe is now fearful of their Muslim populations because of violence, voting blocs and threats of terror acts. They are woefully rethinking their poor decisions to allow unrestricted immigration of Muslims. Most European nations and old cities are dead even, on Mosques vs churches and in many the scale is tipped overwhelmingly to Muslim Mosques. Well, you guys let them in, you deal with them. That is why they don’t want to help in Syria or Iraq. They fear the terrorists living down the street and their retribution. I have no doubt the IS leader speaking several times that there are already cells in place in America and Europe waiting for the word to act is truthful. Hell if I were them, I would be laughing at Obama as well. He spoke about using intel the way we do. I have no doubt. I would be coming across… Read more »

The experiment of civility is dead. Savagery will survive, and civility will be its servant or its fertilizer. Unless the west acts fast, and just as ruthlessly as its enemy has proven themselves to be, there won’t be anything of our way of life left to save.

Gee, Jonn, looks like Nicole has appointed herself as your own personal VWPisspot. Apparently you have no military experience compared to her… she must really be hot stuff. Militarily speaking.

NHSparky

Pay her no mind. She’s a former (and current) troll here whose existence is so meaningless she blathers on about her worship of the boy king and how we’re all racists for not genuflecting at the altar of the teleprompter and chugging the KoolAid down by the gallon.

Damn. She sounds like on of my ex’s. Of course I’m sure she’s SOMEBODY’S ex…

Or, for that matter, Holder’s investigation into Benghazi and the search for Ms. Nicole’s brain.

The only way a nuke can possibly be effective is if/when all the ISers are gathered in one spot, for whatever reason. And it has to be big enough to register on the USGS seismographs and be seen from space. Something like the Tsar Bomba, but only as a warning that we have more where that one came from.

Otherwise, it’s just a waste of time.

As I said, they’ve already told the media they have no fear of death, they welcome it, they are street guerrillas and will slaughter any and all of us. Okay, forewarned is forearmed, so that means that the Rules of Engagement for any USA or EU troops that go up against them obey the ultimate rule of warfare: KILL OR BE KILLED.

Because that’s THEIR rule and they won’t stop until they are all gone. Blood feuds never end until all are wiped out.

Everyone get that?

GDContractor

But what about an almost unbelievably small airstrike??? 😉 //running for the door

Ex-PH2

Ah, I’m just venting, GDC.

I’m as frustrated as the rest of you. And there is some KMRA article about bodaprez and his vacations, and how it’s unsettling to the press that he’d be out playing golf when there is a crisis going on, per this article.

http://www.examiner.com/article/obama-s-golf-game-after-foley-beheading-announcement-unsettles-media

The photograph that accompanies the article tells me that he just doesn’t give a crap.

And that pisses me off no end.

FatCircles0311

And we are back to pre 9/11 law enforcement terrorism mentality.

Thanks, Hussein.
