The Marine Corps Times reports that Corporal Wassef Ali Hassoun has been charged by the Corps with desertion, destruction of government property, and larceny for the time in 2004 when he was deployed to Iraq as an interpreter and disappeared;

At the time, Hassoun’s family claimed he was abducted—a claim that appeared to be corroborated when the Al -Jazeera news network broadcast a photo of Hassoun blindfolded, with a man holding a sword behind his head.

But Hassoun contacted U.S. officials in Beirut, Lebanon nearly a month after his disappearance, and was recovered by the Marine Corps at the American Embassy in Beirut. After he was returned to Camp Lejeune and the Marines completed an investigation, Hassoun was charged with loss of government property and stealing a military weapon, having left base with his 9 mm pistol and a Humvee.

Hassoun disappeared a second time in December 2004. He had been granted permission to visit relatives in Utah on leave, and did not return.

Hassoun reappeared and turned himself in last month, and now faces an investigation.

When will he and his family be having dinner at the White House with the Obamas?

Isnala

Now onlf if big Army have the stones to follow the Corps example with our other favorite deserter

B Woodman

Where in Utah is his family?

Raja

West Jordan, Utah

Still serving(currently in Afghanistan)

Maybe PTSD made him do it! 😉

Arby

Nah, PTSD only makes you plagiarize your War College thesis.

I want to know why his parents weren’t invited to the WH Rose Garden and, dammit, I want to know right now! (Oh, and about those sleeves…)

Sapper3307

Its easer to get a book deal and signing events when a deserter is free to walk the country he swore to defend and deserted twice. So fare. I look forward to seeing on The View.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Betcha we find out he is a spy, transgendered, was bullied in third grade, PDTS recipient or something like that!

Note: Shave the mustache and roll down your sleeves!

NR Pax

It’s summer. Sleeves should be OK. But the mustache is questionable.

jes

The new regulations require sleeves down year around. As for the mustache, it’s out of regulation. I think the bigger question should be is why was he granted leave to visit his family when he w as under investigation at the time. How was he able to change his plane ticket to Beirut via Canada? The investigation involved mistreatment of prisoners, misappropriation of government property, collaborating with the enemy and providing information to the enemy. Of course, all these are allegations. However, all of this hasn’t been mentioned since his return. He was present and gave orders at the prison in Al Mumahdia. Please forgive the spelling. Is that being investigated also? Or will it be swept under the rug? If he did give information to the enemy, the cost most assuredly was American lives.

He should be sent to the Leavenworth school for bad boys and spend the next 10 years turning big rocks into little rocks.

CWO5USMC

This turd needs to be flushed and go away….a little time at the brig in LeJeune before heading to Leavenworth seems more than appropriate.

He’s just a poor boy, from a poor family. Spare him his life from this monstrosity!

FuryAdvisor

OK. I’m clearly the only person here who thinks young Wassef bears a striking resemblance to Queen lead singer Freddy Mercury. Sigh. Old people…

NR Pax

It’s the lack of flamboyance. Freddy could have taken that uniform and made it FABULOUS!!

MAJMike

He just enlisted for the educational benefits.

Well in keeping with past traditions of being a strong family guy, I am sure they will let him have leave to go visit his folks again. Then he will be gone for another several months and turn himself in again. After all, they let in go visit once when he was under investigation why not again? If he does this right he could make a 20 year career of this and then claim everything under the sun and get all his back pay and a pension out of it. Who let’s a troop under investigation go on leave to visit his family? I guess I don’t need an answer. It is fairly obvious that smarter folks than me are running the military investigation and detention process these days.

I’m just as pissed with the Corps as I am with this traitor shitbag. They knew he’d run and they still authorized leave for him to enable him to just go away.

The CO that authorized his leave should be faces charges as well. I’m tired of this PC crap in our military.

He should get min the rest of his remaining contract + the length of Iraq war when he deserted the first time. Then add another 5 years for desertion again. Fuck this guy forever. I hope they fine him for the cost of military equipment to stole as well. Deport his fucking traitor brother too. I’m sure he was complicate in the second desertion.

Bulletbrother

Really should start shooting deserters like they used to do back in the day.
