Petraeus unsurprised by Iraq
For some reason the Washington press is making a big deal out of a speech that General David Petraeus made in regards to how he saw the conflict coming in Iraq. The Washington Times writes;
“I think people who have watched this closely — and I’ve been one of them — have seen this coming,” he said. “There have been camps that were established just across the border of Iraq and Syria. You can see the designs. You could hear what they said. You could see this increasing terrorist violence.”
With the war he left behind several years ago resurfacing again, Gen. Petraeus has also resurfaced to shed light on how a country that was staunchly defended and supported by the U.S. military is slowly unraveling amid a new armed conflict.
I don’t think you had to watch events in Iraq unfold to anticipate the current situation. I’m pretty sure that most of the denizens of this blog saw it coming from the moment the last of US troops crossed over into Kuwait. The only way that anyone could not see it coming is if they ignored their lying eyes. They’d have to be intentionally ignoring it all. I’m sure it wouldn’t be unreasonable if someone claimed they saw it coming from January 2009.
This administration spends a lot of time just wishing the world was the way they want it to be, rather than putting much effort into working to make the world they think it should be. The nomination of John Kerry as the Secretary of State proved that. We dodged a HUGE bullet in 2004.
Now, I admire Petreaus for what he did in Iraq, I’m less impressed with what he’s done since. But he’s not some kind of oracle. I’d say he has a keen eye for the obvious in regards to Iraq.
Four years from now I wonder if the Washington press will be stunned that I saw the same fate coming for Afghanistan back in 2014.

He obviously can’t see the future, otherwise, he would have kept his pants zipped and not been humiliated and fired.
Didn’t see that comin’, did he?
He probably did, but decided the risk was worth the reward.
I think there’s a boy scout and a blind preacher in South Dakota that didn’t see this coming in Iraq. The rest of us did…
Well those two and the CinC at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
“This administration spends a lot of time just wishing the world was the way they want it to be, rather than putting much effort into working to make the world they think it should be.”
It’s that college freshman mentality that they have. They live in a fantasy world. Whether its “dude that was four years ago” or Marie Barf at the State Department, these are the people in charge of our country. Their “shock” at all the chaos around the world is no shock to us because we know that they have their heads up each others asses. As for Kerry, that guy is a Blue Falcon of the highest order. Not only did he throw his buddies under the bus and back over them, but he told bold faced lies to further his agenda. There is a special place in hell for guys like Kerry.
Call me a liar or whatever, but, I’ve seen this coming since somewhere in 04.
It was so damned obvious that we weren’t going to close the deal, even then. As soon as the domestic enemy started in with the “quagmire, just like Vietnam…” I knew we would quit before the thing was done.
And, it was also obvious that we no longer, as a nation, have any real concept on how to actually fight a war to win it in any meaningful manner. We’ve completely forgot reason #2 for all wars fought.
Make anyone else thinking about going to war against us terrified of the idea. Scare them bad enough, so that for at least one whole generation, they slap the teeth out of the faces of anyone among their own that even hint at wanting to war against us.
But no. We’re so desparate for the degenerate left and other assorted quislings/vichy to any mish-mash of Eurotardic filthosophy to love us, we have, actually, done nothing much more than drop trousers and bend over to please them, for going on half a century now.
Our warfighters can not honestly count on anything from our culture except to be hung out to flap in the wind and sacrifice for nothing.
Well said, well said!
Move along people…….nothing to see here……
well congratulations on seeing it coming. Too bad you didn’t see it when the US was going into Iraq from Kuwait instead of leaving.
Captain obvious
That is GENERAL Obvious to you!
O. G. WHIZ, ya mean our enemies just waited it out until we withdrew and then went apeshit? Who woulda thought that? DERPA-DERPA-DOO!!
Its been proven over and over that we are undoubtedly the best in the world at winning wars. Its that period after the war is over we suck at through no fault of our military. Our military isn’t equipped for nation building. Trying to force feed barbarians democracy is a fool’s errand. Our government doesn’t have the guts for it and always seems to pull the rug out from under our feet. We had Iraq in the bag and let it go for poll points. Damn shame all those good men and women had to die just to give it all back.
Ne Desit Virtus…Thank you sir and well said.
Can you imagine what it would be like if we went to war and unleashed the full technological power of the US war machine on any and all shitheads who dared do us harm? If we let our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines do what they are trained to do to the utmost of their ability?
Yeah, neither can I. Sucks balls, doesn’t it…..
“The nomination of John Kerry as the Secretary of State proved that. We dodged a HUGE bullet in 2004.”
Every four years folks say, “this is the most important election of our lifetimes.” In 2004, that was actually TRUE.
