Finally a shooter with military connections
Pinto Nag sends us a link to an NBC News article about a 15-year-old in Oregon who shot a classmate the other day, then he engaged in a shootout with police before he shot himself. Another indisputable tragedy. But, the media of course is obsessed with explaining his behavior – in this case they’re doing a jig. The shooter, whatever his name was, belonged to his High School’s JROTC program. And, oh, his brother was in the Army and in Afghanistan.
[What’s-his-name] arrived on the school bus on Tuesday, carrying a guitar case and a large duffel bag, Troutdale Police Chief Scott Anderson said at a press conference. One of those held an AR-15 rifle that the teen brought from home, the sheriff said.
“The weapons had been secured, but he defeated the security measures,” Anderson said.

Students who knew [what’s-his-name] told NBC News that the young man was in the JROTC and had an “unhealthy obsession with the military,” often wearing Army fatigues.
What’s an “unhealthy obsession with the military”? Do you mean like enlisting, would that be an obsession? From Heavy;

Lucas Padgett attended Special Forces school at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center in Fort Bragg, his Facebook school said. The 24-year-old now works as a sales agent for Farmers Insurance.
Yeah, I know, I’m checking on it. But I think it was his brother’s job with Farmer’s Insurance that pushed him over the edge;
Makes as much sense as blaming his brother’s military service. But, you know, like I know, that 15-year-olds can not legally purchase guns – from the police statement that he defeated the security measure, I’m assuming they meant that what’s-his-name’s parents had secured their guns, but junior got to them anyway. How did he get a long gun into the school? The last thing they should be worrying about is his fashion sense, his membership in the JROTC program and his brother’s service.
Didn’t Oregon pass laws that were supposed to end these problems? They even closed the deadly “gun show loop holes”. Well, that didn’t stop the irrational hags at Moms Demand Action from releasing this statement;
We hear our representatives calling for prayers, but today, we call on responsible gun owners, mothers, fathers, and all concerned citizens to call on our elected officials to pass reasonable reforms that will prevent gun violence.
What “reasonable reforms” would have prevented this particular shooting? Everything that what’s-his-name did was already illegal.

And a significant number of the people at their rallies are always minors who are usually their children. They literally have so few people that they have to force their kids to come to try to boost their numbers.

In Wake Forest, NC they managed to draw 10 people to their “protest” outside The Home Depot. All 10 happened to be paid staffers of their group. If Bloomberg pulled his money from this front group they would dry up and blow away

Love it. Now, how is it that the common thread among these juvenile shooters is always overlooked? I speak, of course, of the public school system. When was the last time you heard of some student at Saint Whatshisname’s going off? Or a rabbinical student? How about one of those evil, backward-thinking fundamentalist Christian schools? Yeah, if I were an investigative reporter, I’d examine the public school connection. Yep.

Simple. Either completely doing away with the rights of anyone in this country to own a firearm privately or draconian restrictions put in place that pretty much amount to a ban.
That’s their goal actually.

How long has murder been against the law? That simple fact doesn’t seem to have kept this lunatic from committing murder. Meanwhile, the rest of us did not consider committing murder, or any other violation of law, any day last week.
I don’t know if I would say consider, so much as commit. I may or may not have considered homicide at work every day this week. Not confirming or denying (smile).
I love all the fear of guns. I live in Alaska and I encounter people that open carry on a fairly regular basis. I have never given it any thought that the person next to me is going to shoot up the place. Usually the only thought that goes through my mind is “that pistol is nice, wish I had the money to buy one”. As far as you don’t need guns nonsense just look at the Daily news miner. Here in podunk Fairbanks Alaska a homeowner shot and killed one man and critically injured another after they broke into his house at 0 dark thirty just a few days ago.

For further accuracy in reporting they should change their network name to NBS(Nothing But Strawmen.
I wonder if they are looking for a real reason why he would do this. I was in JROTC and I never shot anyone. So have 99.9999% of JROTC members. Heck, during hunting season, students used to wear their camo in class on Friday (with rifles on the racks in the back window of their trucks) waiting for school to get out.
Hard to believe that was less than 20 years ago.

Another common thread (although it’s hard to impossible to get the records on a minor) is that most of these kids have mental illness histories and are on psychiatric meds.
Don’t forget the teachers the “teach” at these cesspools of taxpayer funded *education.

Saw something earlier which said Obama finally came out in favor of “Australia-style gun control” – anyone else see that? So much for the “no one wants to take your guns away” meme… the Aussies basically made anything made after about 1896 illegal and confiscated it.
Yeah, I saw that. He has some other issues to contend with just now, though. But it was nice for him to admire a country that ended private gun ownership through mass confiscation. I hear that it gave LTC Bateman his first woody in years.
