Robert Bergdahl’s Tweet

Bergdahl tweet

Robert Bergdahl, Bowe’s father, sent the tweet above on May 28th and as a result y’all have been filling up my inbox with it, so I guess I’d better say something about it. It’s been removed from his Twitter feed now. Like I said, it was sent three days before his son was released, so I have to think that he probably knew his son’s release was almost imminent. But it wasn’t definite yet.

I’m also pretty sure that, being a parent of a POW, he doesn’t like anyone being held by a foreign government. However, unlike his son, those people we’re holding in Guantanamo want to kill all Americans for no other reason than the place of our residence, our fortuitous place of birth.

We all hope that the release of his son won’t lead to more attempts to kidnap American troops to exchange for the terrorists who have been removed from the planet’s affairs. But, I’m sure that Americans in Afghanistan are trained well enough that they can avoid that eventuality so I’m not going to wring my hands over something that hasn’t happened yet and put my faith in the training and professionalism of the US military – like they do.

Of course, we all remember that in 2007, Staff Sergeant Sal Giunta earned his Medal of Honor rescuing Sergeant Joshua Brennan from the Taliban who were trying to kidnap the wounded sergeant, so it wouldn’t be new, nor a direct result of Bergdahl’s release if they tried kidnapping American troops now.

Meanwhile, the administration is spinning up their own version of the release. according to Fox News;

[Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and National Security Adviser Susan Rice] repeatedly disagreed with the argument that U.S. officials negotiated with terrorists to get back Bergdahl.

“He wasn’t simply a hostage,” Rice said. “He was a prisoner of war.”

Hagel told NBC’s “Meet the Press”: “We didn’t negotiate with terrorists. Sergeant Bergdahl is a prisoner of war. That’s a natural process.”

[…]

On the issue of not informing Congress, Hagel said he informed the leaders of the appropriate congressional intelligence and military committees, but defended the administration’s actions by saying officials had to move swiftly.

[…]

“There was reason to be concerned [Bergdahl’s] life could have been at risk,” Rice said. “We didn’t have 30 days.”

Hagel and Rice sidestepped questions about whether officials will investigate how and why Bergdahl apparently wandered off base in Afghanistan before he was captured on June 30, 2009.

“He probably went through hell,” Hagel said from Afghanistan. “The first issue is his health.”

I’m fairly sure they don’t want Bergdahl in a public trial because that would lessen what may be perceived as yet another success for the President.

I don’t know if this has been said, but… I found a news report thanks to an ex-military aquaintance that states the Bergdahl willingly was taken prisoner after leaving base. He was trying to join the Taliban. After his capture, he began to give the Talib information on US soldiers in the region, tactics, etc.

He’s a traitor. The statement of his father doesn’t surprise me at all, they’re of a like mind.

A Proud Infidel®

I’ve also heard that he willingly helped train Taliban personnel on US Military tactics and equipment. If that turns out to be true, I’d volunteer to supply the rope for the gallows after he/it has been convicted.

Please share all of this widely. I realize this is a lot of information, but all of it is solid proof that treason has been committed at the highest level of this country. Suggested names for Bowe’s traitor parents:
Papa Durka-Durka
Jihad Jane

Valkyrie

Thanks for that link. What a read! It’ll be interesting to see the outcome of all this.

Valkyrie

I’m wondering why his father has said the things he has. Was it because his son was being held prisoner, or because he believes them? I know I’d do or say anything to keep my child safe and appear sympathetic to his captors’ cause while they had him, and then rip them a new asshole when I got him back. Also why was Bowe having trouble “speaking English” when he was returned?

I just don’t know enough about this right now. Not that my opinion matters, just typing out loud.

Poetrooper

Valkyrie, it appears this bad apple didn’t fall far from the tree…

Ex-PH2

Bergdahl’s parents are a couple of aging hippies from the 60s.

If that’s how his daddy really feels, then why did he not talk his kid out of joining the military in the first place?

2/17 Air Cav

Yeah, Susan Rice is the personification of credibility. Just look at what a good job she did with Benghazi. I mean, a week after the attack, and days after all reasonable people recognized the attack as evidently planned and coordinated, she was still hawking the spontaneous protest bullshit. She should have been shitcanned but, of course, she was only doing what she was told to do. It worked out well for her, what with the promotion to The Emperor’s very own national security adviser. Now she’s batting her fishy gums again publicly, saying that this was a POW swap, not the result of negoptiating with terrorists. I see. Well, I gotta say, I really found the Benghazi video explanation much more plausible.

papawhiskey

Wasn’t she promoted for her expert handling of that situation?

ohio

Found this, interesting read. He is a deserter in a combat zone!

As long as we’re on the subject of twitter feeds-this one is by a guy who claims to have been a soldier who was there at the OP when Bergdahl went missing. He describes the events of that night/next morning-fascinating.

Slick Goodlin

Would the following ever apply to Bergdahl???

Sergeant Bergdahl’s actions were in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Airborne and the United States Army.

Green Thumb

This reeks of “Wag the Dog”.

I wonder if Jesse Jackson was involved in the exchange?

FatCircles0311

U.S. resident ignores congressional law to negotiate with terrorists to secure the release of a guy who most likely was a deserter. This happens suddenly after weeks of yet another scandal in which incompetence and neglect results in the deaths of more Americans and veterans. Oh yeah, POW’s father is a Taliban sympathizer that claims US military kills Afghan children.

Obummer scandals are the greatest. You couldn’t even make this stuff up.

Poetrooper

That’s the wise course, Jonn, but from what I’m reading out there, the first-person accounts are bringing a little more focus to an image that’s been around for a few years. Bergdahl’s self-incriminating emails were reported in the mainstream media a couple of years ago.

They’re going to try to make a hero of this turd and that is sickening to me. General Bob Scales just lost the respect I had for him by his over-solicitous comments on FOX about “this poor boy”. I thought Scales was supposed to be an “informed insider”. Well he’s apparently an insider but a poorly informed one.

A Proud Infidel®

It could be the General has been told that if he doesn’t toe the line that B.Hussein 0bama & Compny tell him to, they’ll unleash their mudslinging machine and end his career!

H1

15 minutes alone with his former 1SG and the truth will come out..

Poetrooper

Unless that first shirt is a blindly loyal Obama supporter. Sad to say, but they do exist, even in my beloved Airborne.

jonp

Indeed. My former Top was in the 173rd in Vietnam. I doubt he would take 15min with him for the truth.

Beretverde

The whole story looked strange from the beginning.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Since the apprehesion of the subject, I will reserve my comments until Courts Marshal proceedings render a guilty decision.

That is all!

Ah, the old “bolder in the mangina syndrome” (aka Bernath’s Disease)

MustangCryppie

Subpoena for you, Senior Chief! Schwack!

jonp

Bergdahl’s parents comments, while disturbing, are not the issue and should not be of any bearing in this.

If what Bergdahl himself is purported to have emailed and it proves true that he did indeed walk away from his post then he does not even rise to the level of hostage. He is a deserter pure and simple and should be in Leavenworth.

In the ensuing media frenzy over the haste to turn him into a hero of some type I have my doubts that a full investigation will ever be done.

ArmyATC

While I agree that Bergdahl’s parents comments aren’t the central issue, I do believe they give a glimpse into the environment he grew up in and could have been at least partial impetus for his actions in walking off the OP.

Ex-344MP

I’ve said my peace in other posts relating to this kid.

I now await the formal hearing, if there ever will be one.

Sapper3307

Looks like a good case of Stockholm syndrome let the lawyers an cid have some fun.

Green Thumb

Jane Fonda and her “family” all over again?

After discharge and 60 Minutes, of course.

Ex-344MP

“Bowe I love you. I am your father,” said his dad, Bob Bergdahl, in the couple’s roughly 20-minute press conference in Boise, Idaho, on Sunday afternoon. “Please recognize we are on a mission… I’m so proud about how far you were willing to go to help the Afghan people.”

I said I was reserving judgement. Now I’m not. His walking away from his post was bad enough, but based on the comments above, it seems that it was pre meditated. That elevates this jackass to definite traitor status.

Bret

“There was reason to be concerned [Bergdahl’s] life could have been at risk,” Rice said. “We didn’t have 30 days.”

And yet there were reports back in February that the administration had this offer on the table for two years. Wag the dog timing.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/us-seeks-prisoner-swap-with-taliban-to-free-army-sgt-bowe-bergdahl/2014/02/17/f142ed50-9590-11e3-afce-3e7c922ef31e_story.html

Common Sense

“There was reason to be concerned [Bergdahl’s] life could have been at risk,” Rice said. “We didn’t have 30 days.”

I call B.S. The offer was on the table for YEARS. In all those years, the White House couldn’t find any time to discuss the exchange with Congress as required by law?

ArmyATC

From reports so far it wasn’t Bergdahl’s life that was in danger, but Obama needing a mid term election ploy to make him look like a hero and give Democrats a good name. The Republicans aren’t helping themselves any by going after Obama right now.

BinhTuy66

It’s good to get him back. I think the trade of five was a a nbama mistake. The sudden rush because of his health? How the Fu*K would the idiots in the white house circle know anything about his health? Just another shades and mirrors cover for this operation.

In reading a lot of the posts and links on this site. I’m having serious thoughts about the quality of the trade off. If he walked off, then we got stiffed in the trade.

We’ll see what the outcome is. I don’t trust the nobama orgiastic turds to come up with anything but awarding medals and verbal honors.

By the way, Jay Cornhole: FU and goodbye to you, you lie all the time piece of buffalo shit. The worst Presidential News Spokesman I’ve ever seen. What a piece of trash!

Clinton and Carter had much better press spokespersons than you. But you must have liked to shine the lie.

MustangCryppie

Don’t sugarcoat it. The trade for those five scumbags was a fuck up of EPIC proportions. The Taliban is getting back highly valuable assets.

BinhTuy66

I forgot to mention if we lost troopers trying to rescue him, if he already went over the hill…

MustangCryppie

“Hey, everybody, we need some chump to go on the Sunday talk shows and lie through their teeth about this Bergdahl guy! Any recommendations? “

Rakpreacher

I was there in paktika province. We replaced 25th ID 3 months after he left. It is a widely known fact among all who were there that he walked out the gate of his OP and was seeking out the Taliban. That place is Indian country you don’t just walk out the gate without your kit and weapon. He lived with them in those tribal lands on his own accord. Please quit referring to him as captive hostage of POW.

Mark Olson

The guy abandoned his post. I know one of the first things I learned on guard mount was my general orders. An Article 32 has to be done!

JHart

“A widely known fact among all who were there…” I have such a problem with people saying this, because unless you knew Bergdahl, you DON’T know what happened – it doesn’t matter that you were at the same outpoint that he was a few months later. You’re reporting hearsay as fact.

I’m not saying he didn’t do it; I’m just pointing out that lots of people are pointing to rumors and hearsay as fact – and it isn’t. Just because an Army buddy told you something (which he heard from someone, who heard from someone, etc.) doesn’t make it true. There are VERY few who know what actually happened – in fact, no one except Bergdahl knows his reasoning for walking off base (if that’s what happened). Whatever his intent was when he strayed away, he has paid for that decision by being held captive for five years by the Taliban/Haqqani.

The evidence presented is condemning; but don’t we believe in guilty until proven innocent in this country? Isn’t that what our military fights for? We don’t need to call him a hero, but we also don’t need to label him a traitor.

JHart

*outpost, not out point

dylan

The people in his, platoon are going on TV and saying it, soo….

nbcguy54

So, any bets on how long it’ll take this shithead to join one of Idaho’s anti-government groups and cause more Americans to get killed?
We all know damn good and well that the Military is going to be pressured into letting him go home for good shortly after he returns – with back pay to boot.

AverageNCO

Interesting read here. Yes, I know it’s the Washington Post. But still, it may give some insight to the bizarre things he said in the press. Apparently they weren’t “former hippies”, but conservative Presbyterians(according to the Post). I’m not “defending” the guy. But as a father, if I was worried my kid would be the next Nick Berg on YouTube, I might try “everything” I could if I thought it would get my kid home.
