Iran will destroy US Navy
The Washington Times reports that one Iranian Navy official has threatened to destroy the US Navy with their strategy, rather than with their inferior technology;
Iranian Naval Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, a member of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said that Iran is constantly training and preparing for a clash with the United States, according to a recounting of his remarks provided by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).
[…]
While the United States possesses advanced military equipment, “these weapons are ineffective against a new [Iranian] strategy relying on faith, on a desire for martyrdom, and on [Iran‘s] unique speedboats,” Fadavi said.
Iran will “not allow the U.S. to act against it from its bases in the Persian Gulf countries,” according to Fadavi, who claimed that U.S. forces in the region are being careful “not to cause a flare-up in the region because they know that they will lose any potential conflict with Iran,” according to MEMRI’s report on Fadavi’s remarks.
In other words, Iranians will depend on “wishful thinking” rather than any sort of real strategy. They’re bringing their 12th century land warfare to the seas. Buoyant jihadists might find that attacking the US Navy is a little more difficult than bombing a market full of women and children.

Wait a minute, Jonn, you’re talking about the “Elite” Geranium Islamic Guard Repubic Navy here. They be badass in an “elite” kinda sorta way!
Yeah … Like they did it 87 – 89 … As I remember, because I was there, using our statergery and bad ass tactics, after destroying all of their boats, we left them with one 8 foot painting boat and the inflatable pictured above.
Hokey religions and bass boats are no match for a carrier battle group, kid.
This guy is like the slow, fat kid talking trash before a game of dodge ball.
3 words…
Block
1B
CIWS
I think the Iranians are going to rely on infiltrators to suicide attack. I’m confident that we have enough eyes and ears in Iran to thwart any such attack, but it’s still a threat that the CIWS is no defense against.
The speed boats though..holy shit, I mean how “unique” can they be?
Block 1B CIWS has a mode that can engage surface targets.
I’m touching myself inappropriately here.
Bring it on, motherfuckers!
We’ll see who comes out on top.
“these weapons are ineffective against a new [Iranian] strategy relying on faith, on a desire for martyrdom, and on [Iran‘s] unique speedboats,” Fadavi said.”
“Our strategy relies on two things – faith, a desire for martrydom, and our speedboats – wait, our strategy relies on three, THREE things, faith, a desire for martrydom, our speedboats and a love of Allah, HOLD IT – our strategy relies on FOUR things, faith, a desire for martrydom, our speedboats, a love of Allah, and a fanatical devotion to Islam – wait, let me start again….”
Mike
Mike Kozlowski… I agree. Take ALL your faith you idiot ragheads, sneak up to the side of a carrier, if you could truly do that, and then bang your head on the hull to see if you can put a dent in it. Enough of you guys doing that and eventually, some poor low ranking, bosun’s mate is gonna have to wash off the blood. That will be about it.
All those things and the fact that “no one expects” them.
68W58…You’re right, they are some sneaky bastards. Maybe they have their own version of our Navy SEALs now. You know, that can swim that far out to sea, at night, and place a charge on the side of a moving ship. Man I’d love to see that attempt. Some old MCPO engine guy, (not sure what they’re called in the Navy) will be heard saying, “hey! did any of you ass holes in here just hear something like an fish hitting the propellers again! Damn it, if we hit another dolphin and that prop needs polishing again, you ass hats are gonna pay for it for mot listening up!”

I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one who read that and heard John Cleese et al!
Instead of the comfy chair, do they have the padded prayer rug?
Mike – thanks for the laugh! Glad to see the hours of watching Python in my youth were just validated 🙂
“U.S. forces in the region are being careful “not to cause a flare-up in the region because they know that they will lose any potential conflict with Iran”.
Yep we’re shaking in our skivvies now! Speed boats eh. I have a buddy with a bass boat that will do close to 80MPH. But the problem with speed boats…they don’t carry a lot of weight. So since I know own argument here is inane to start with, please Iranian Navy, please bring your new and improved speed boats out of port and head towards the battle group of your choosing. I can’t wait for the Youtube video! By the way, just to help you Iranian readers out here, most of the battle group ships will be painted gray. If that helps at all. So don’t fuck up and head for a Carnival Cruise Liner or the Disney Boat.
Sparks,
That will be a problem…because almost certainly the RGs will have been told – if they don’t already believe with every beat of their demented lil’ hearts – that the cruise ships and/or other civilian ships are actually spy ships in the Great Satan’s service…
Mike
They can take their faith in one and shit in the other. See which one is far more substantial and then realize that neither will do them a bit of fucking good.
Faith based weapons. Is that anything like the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch?
I don’t think Fadavi wants to deal with anything as complicated as “count to three”.
68W58…to five maybe…but using his fingers.
Five is right out!
They seem to be liberal in their use of the word “elite”. They may want to check with their neighbors to their immediate west to see how the elite Republican Guard fared against the Western infidels.
The reality is a kid in a row boat is a much larger threat than an antiquated Destroyer.
The reason is the kid or an old man with the row boat is not seen as a threat until he is along side. No one wants to be the one to pull the trigger one something like that.
The old destroyer will be monitored and as soon as it makes the first aggressive move it will be rendered harmless.
Do not discount Iran. They have some of the best diesel electric subs, they operate in the Persian gulf and chances are they could throw the first punch.
Iran has 3 Kilo class subs purchased from Russia. Several from North Korea and a few they made themselves. Just because they have trouble in big water does not mean that they are not a real threat.
I think they will run out of martyrs ans speedboats before we run out of guys willing to shoot them.
It would be just like the novice level of a video game.
So, I was watching “Son’s of Guns” the other day and they had a Jingle(sp) gun, for those that don’t know it’s a damn long rifle that needs a second guy to hold it up, and it’s from the Boxer Rebellion. Anyway, the rhetoric coming from these guys kinda sounds like they think that they are impervious to bullets, like the monks from the rebellion (except for the whole actually wanting to be killed part aka martyrdom, which our military is more that willing to help with)
If all you admirals would remember a little exercise name “Operation Millennium Challenge”, you probably wouldn’t be so quick to laugh off the Iranians. Think they weren’t paying attention?

Go home Iran, you’re drunk….
Every timer I read something like this I think about the Movie “The Mouse that Roared”
Its one of Peter Sellers First.
Its about a small country that has been hurt by US economics. They Decide to attack the US. Knowing that they will loose.
The Best line in the movie is
We attack on Monday, Surrender on Tuesday and the aid is rolling in by Friday.
Enigma4you – can’t help but point out – the Duchy of Grand Fenwick WON. (Screwing up their plans for Marshall-plan style aid from the US.)
Its too bad we don’t have any Iowa battleships still in service. Cause from what I have read about their armor, a little rubber raft bomb would only ding and dent the plate, no more.
