Iraq Army accused of using “barrel bombs” in Fallujah

Fallujah bomb damage

Al Jazeera accuses the Iraqi government of using “barrel bombs” against insurgents in their battle to take back Fallujah from the al Qaeda-linked ISIS terrorist organization;

The Iraqi government has denied the use of barrel bombs and asserted that it was fighting in a “humane way”.

Al Jazeera’s Imran Khan, reporting from the capital Baghdad, said that despite the government’s denial, there was strong evidence that barrel bombs havd been used in Fallujah.

“We have spoken to people, including witnesses and experts, in Fallujah who say the government has been using barrel bombs,” he said.

“Pictures have also been given to Al Jazeera showing barrel bombs used in Iraq. Barrel bombs are very distinctive looking, they are oil barrels that are stuffed with explosives and thrown from helicopters.”

Witnesses claim that the government is dropping these crude bombs on *gasp* mosques. of course, the first thing that came to my mind was when the Maliki government complained that the US forces were indiscriminately using ordnance against the same terrorists who were killing Iraqi civilians and it was one of the reasons that the Obama Administration couldn’t get a status of forces agreement with the Iraq government.

Now, I’m not going to pretend that I believe al Jazeera or their “witnesses”, but I can still take a measure of delight in the irony of the whole discussion.

I’m crying a river here for the extremist… no really I am.

The first day of Taliban Annual Spring Fighting Season can’t get no respect.

So, something like a Katyusha or Frog rocket which is unguided, has a large CEP and is essentially a steel can stuffed with explosive pushed to the target by a rocket, is considered an “approved” weapon. OK, so it makes perfect sense that a steel can stuffed with explosive that is pushed out of a helicopter is NOT considered “approved”.
I just don’t understand any more….

UpNorth

George V, apparently, the approval or non-approval depends on who the “barrel bomb” is being used against. Jihadists on the receiving end=bad.
Katyusha or FROG used against non-Jihadists=good.

Yep. Reminds me of when Al (Jazerra) Gore sold his crappy TV network to Al Jazeera. So what if Mr Anti-Fossil Fuel was paid in millions derived from fossil fuels? The important thing is that…okay, I have to stop now. I’m making myself ill. The important thing is Al Gore is an asshole and Iraq is a shithole and I don’t give a rat’s ass about either one. Thank you.

Yeah, I’m real concerned about this issue, maybe when i get back from Idontgiveafuckistan I’ll sit down and consider this in depth, but probably not.

Plus if a barrel bomb was okay for the Philly police it should be okay for the Iraqis right?

FatCircles0311

I wish I could have dropped some barrel bombs on turds in Fallujah.

Hai Guize….how about a few of these?!?!??!?

MOAB’s are a bit too much…I’d say use something smaller, like ummmmm…nuc’s!

Rick

Who cares? The Detroit police used barrel bombs against the people of the MOVE organization and killed women and children here in he U.S. and nobody says anything about that!

streetsweeper

When did that happen, because i do not recall seeing it on the six o’clock news and Lord knows, the MSM would have been all over it like a rat on a Cheeto.

LebbenB

Not Detroit. The MOVE bombing was done by the Philly PD.

Hey Rick. Do you just make stuff up? Are you a commenter at DU? As LebbenB wrote, it was Philly. The year was 1985 and the police did not use a barrel bomb. And people who fire on police–as those raggedy unwashed revolutionaries did–well, things turn not to work out so well for them. Unfortunately, the bomb drop started a fire–mostly in shithouses and the media went crazy over it. Other than those things, everything you said was right on the money. Well, now that I re-read your comment, I see that you didn’t say anything else. Hey, I tried to be nice.

On the plus side, maybe “Rick” above could get a job writing for “Veterans Today”.

After all, they hired Gordon Duff. (smile)

Terrorists complaining about, well, anything, should garner a moment of my concern because, why was that again? Well, other than enjoying the irony of it, no, can’t seem to find any concern.
