Clinton opposes CCW

| May 7, 2014

The Washington Times reports that Hillary Clinton doesn’t think you should be able to take your guns out in public, according to what she told the National Council for Behavioral Health conference in Oxon Hill, MD.

“I think again we’re way out of balance. I think that we’ve got to rein in what has become an almost article of faith that anybody can have a gun anywhere, anytime,” Clinton said. “And I don’t believe that is in the best interest of the vast majority of people. And I think you can say that and still support the right of people to own guns.”

The Democratic-controlled Senate voted against legislation pushed by President Barack Obama last year that would have expanded background checks for firearm purchases to gun shows and online sales. The legislation came in the aftermath of the deadly Sandy Hook elementary school shootings in Connecticut.

Well not anyone can own a gun to begin with, Hillary. Only the law abiding citizens. And even us law abiding citizens can carry just anywhere. We’re restricted from carrying in government and law enforcement buildings – anytime. Some states forbid folks from carrying in establishments that serve alcohol. Not here in West Virginia, but other states do. I’m not aware of any shootings in West Virginia in bars or restaurants.

The problem isn’t law abiding citizens who have passed background checks and taken the training required for concealed carry permits. The gatekeeper, the National Identification Checks System, suffers from garbage in, garbage out. If the unbalanced people aren’t entered into the system, they’re going to get guns.

[Clinton pointed] to recent shootings that involved teens who had been playing loud music and chewing gum and a separate incident involving the typing of text messages in a movie theater.

Last I checked, teens aren’t allowed to have guns, so her point is mute. Restricting legal gun owners won’t change that, will it? Well, at least you know the future of gun laws in the first few months of a Clinton Administration, if she’s dragging out this tired subject this early in her campaign.

“[Clinton pointed] to recent shootings that involved teens who had been playing loud music and chewing gum and a separate incident involving the typing of text messages in a movie theater.”

WTF??? Did I miss something big time.

OWB

So make loud music, chewing gum, and texting illegal. Makes as much sense as disarming law abiding citizens. At least a correlation can be shown between criminal activity and loud music, chewing gum, and texting.

That Guy

The ‘loud music’ was an individual who grabbed his gun FROM HIS HOUSE, and the texting in a movie theater shooter was a RETIRED COP who continues to claim that the texter provoked it.

Sparks

That Guy…Thanks for the info. Although people on their cell phones in the movie when they have run the “Please turn off your cell phones” screen a DOZEN FUCKING TIMES does make me want to lock and load. 😀

That Guy

When my friends and I went to see Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day in theaters, some jackass not only had a phone with a loud ringtone, but actually ANSWERED HIS GODDAMN PHONE IN A CROWDED THEATER.
So I took it and threw it and told him to go find it. He left, and didn’t return, so I guess I won.
Don’t sit in front of me and take phone calls during a film I paid 10.25 for.

Dave

That Guy,

Boy, I sure hope you didn’t hit anyone with that phone when you flung it. You could have wound up getting shot yourself!

Ex-PH2

This lack of plain ol’ good manners is why I don’t go to movies at theaters any more. Are you there to watch the movie or not?

Geez, the worst thing we used to do at the movies was necking right in front of the rows behind us.

MAJMike

Politicians prefer unarmed peasants.

GDContractor

Amen to that! That’s my favorite bumper sticker of all time. 2nd favorite: “Not Fonda Kerry” w/ hammer and sickle graphic.

Sparks

GDContractor Off topic but speaking of bumper stickers. One I did not agree with because I voted for him but it did make me laugh at the time was in 1971. It said, “Why change Dicks in the middle of a screw, vote for Nixon in ’72”

Old Trooper

Well, to tie what you’re talking about into the topic; Hillary was fired from the Watergate team and the head of it refused to give her a letter of recommendation, because he said she lacked moral and ethical character. She tampered with evidence, witnesses, etc. and was very unprofessional as an attorney. Yeah, that’s who we need running the country.

The Other Whitey

Ain’t it funny how so many liberals love to talk about Watergate, yet they conveniently omit so many important parts of the story…

Azygos

I think everytime one of these socialists has a question answer period one of the first questions should be how many armed guards do you have?

Next.
Should Obamacare be repealed? If no because its the law why are you always trying to repeal the 2nd amendment because its also the law, right?

sconie_INF

and at that the 2nd amendment isn’t just law, its at the head of the bill of rights. I’d say that ranks a bit above regular legislation. Not that the bill of rights means anything to the socialists.

Ex-PH2

That’s because they think THEY are the only people who should have any rights at all.

rb325th

I oppose Hillary Clinton. What a douchebag!! Oh yes… Benghazi!

Mike220

Guess it’s a good thing I don’t give a damn what that haggard bitch thinks.

Pinto Nag

And the beat goes on…

Yeah, because her husband’s gun control law worked so well to prevent another Columbine from happening…… oh, wait- Columbine happened AFTER they passed the Clinton Gun Ban

Martinjmpr

She’s positioning herself for 2016.

Early on in his presidency, Clinton thought he could split gun owners by trying to be a “moderate” on gun control but after the 1994 election debacle, he realized that having the NRA as a punching bag would work better for him because it would make him look “tough” to his democratic and lefty supporters (as in “he’s brave enough to take on the NRA!”)

Funny thing is, IIRC even Clinton admitted that his anti-gun stance has cost his party dearly and almost certainly cost Al Gore the 2000 election.

Hillary must either think that the Republicans are too feckless to field a decent candidate (and sadly she has at least two good reasons to think that – McCain and Romney) or she’s just playing to the base to try and keep them from going all Nader on her.

68W58

She is appealing to the left wing base here, but don’t be surprised to hear more “moderate” language from her later on. The Dems are certain that the 1994 assault weapons ban cost them control of the Congress for the first time in 40 years and they are careful not to let the general public hear the same message that they feed to their lefty true believers.

Martinjmpr

What’s ironic is that the current “gun rights movement” didn’t really even exist before 1993. It formed in response to Clinton’s relentless attack on the 2nd amendment. Of course, the growth of the internet also helped it along as, for the first time, there was an alternate source of news and information that wasn’t filtered through the big networks.

However, as we saw here in CO, if the Dems do get temporary political superiority, they will try to ram down whatever they think they can in the time they have. We let our guard down here and that’s what we got.

Roh-Dog

I know I don’t have to remind anyone but this pisses me off to no end. Mrs. Clinton’s quote about the “incident involving the typing of text messages in a movie theater” as a citizen with a gun commiting a crime is disingenuous. That gentleman in Florida was a retired LE Captian and Bush signed a law that says as long as a retired LE stays qualified and holds an ID from their agency, they can carry anywhere. They, good or bad, are a different class of ‘citizen’ with a superior class of rights. I propose this; if we can’t trust a credentialed LEO, retired or not, who can we trust? Mind you I do not mean to erode any trust or gratitude that I have for law enforcement in general, just making a point…

Hondo

Is anyone really surprised that Clintoon is opposed to concealed carry?

And yes, the misspelling above is intentional.

BREAKING NEWS:

Criminals don’t follow the law and they certainly exploit bad laws.

Join NRA (or local advocacy group), keep buying guns and stock up on ammo.

Fjardeson

My sentiments exactly. Hey Legislators: CRIMINALS, BY DEFINITION, DISOBEY THE LAW!

ArmyATC

I recently upgraded my NRA membership to Life Endowment.

Hillary is dumber than a dog’s foot. The way I see it is the DNC has already ruled out Hillary for 2016 but will not say it for their chess gaming reasons. That makes her the perfect political pawn to say and do what they think will help them the most for whomever they choose to put forward between now and then. Just my opinion. I mean before you throw her out officially, use her to every advantage you can and get all the mileage out of her she has in her. That’s what I would do with her, were I the head of the DNC.

Martinjmpr

Hmmmm…not sure I can agree. Love her or hate her, Hillary is the rock star of the Dem party now that Obama is ineligible for election. Not only that, Hillary has the “machine” that she needs to run. I don’t see anybody else in the Democratic party who has even a tenth of her “star power” and sadly, that seems to be what wins elections these days.

Of course, the fecklessness and stupidity of the Republicans always seems to work in the Dems favor, too. It’s hard to see another Reagan anywhere in the GOP fold right now, and short of that, I think Americans will prefer “the devil they know” to the one they don’t.

The final issue, I think, is that Republicans seem to win when national security is the primary concern of the American people. Reagan in 80 and 84, Bush Sr. in 88, and GW Bush in ’04 (I would consider W’s squeaker victory in 2000 to be an anomaly – if not for Gore’s stump headedness and Clinton’s anti-gun activism, Gore would have been elected easily as Clinton’s successor.)

Martinjmpr

Sorry, should have finished my thought: In any case, unless there is another terror attack or something else that shows American weakness in the world and makes people care about it (Ukraine doesn’t count because nobody really cares), I see the people voting for the “Mommy party” not the “daddy party.”

Sparks

Martinjmpr…I understand your points. My issue now with the Republicans is that they should have a candidate ready and waiting to put forward. It does not serve them well in 2014-2015 to let everybody and their brother throw their hat in the ring and then come the inter-party debates where they tear each other apart in America’s eyes. I wish they would VET and I do mean VET a solid candidate now and have them ready to run. It looks bad when 12 folks are on a podium, arguing over meaningless crap. Makes them and the whole party look foolish.

Powerpoint Ranger

Sparks,

Having a large number of people to start with and whittling the field down is exactly how the vetting process works. Those aren’t always the circumstances that lead to a solid nominee, but it doesn’t mean that one won’t emerge either. The primary that Clinton won in 1992 started out with nearly as many candidates as people are speculating for the GOP in 2016. It’s just part of the deal.

NHSparky

I’d say he started running in 1974 about five seconds after he left the governor’s mansion in Sacramento.

The fact he didn’t get much traction in 1976, however, actually bode better for the nation. Imagine a second Carter term in the early 1980’s.

Uh, no thanks.

Pinto Nag

Ha! The Republicans need to start by finding a candidate who can go more than a week without sticking their foot in their mouth!

A Proud Infidel®™

I say YES, let her keep howling and screeching for Gun Control! Remember “Snoopy” Dukakis’s quote about guns before the 1988 election? It was plastered on the cover of American Rifleman and all other NRA magazines prior to that election.

Ex-PH2

Let’s see. With the current administration, the following things have happened.

1 – The public education system in this country has produced at least one full generation of illiterate imbeciles who function at the minimum level of competence.

2 – The health insurance system has been turned into a bad joke.

3 – The administration has spent at least half a billion dollars of your tax money on vacations, maybe more, but there’s no real money for the military.

4 – The USofA has become a bigger joke than it was during the Carter administration.

Yeah, we’re screwed. we’ll have a complete class of peasants/serfs who will be too illiterate to do anything except hand out coffee with pretty pictures in it and spend every dime in their pockets.

I think I’m turning into a COB myself.

I wonder how she (and every rich liberal for that matter) would feel if her armed security detail was permanently removed.

I M Simpleton

That’s why we all have to become certified as “private security guards”

ArmyATC

The only thing out of balance is Hitlery’s hormones. She’s beginning to look like Dr. Evil with a bit more hair. maybe she doesn’t want anyone carrying concealed because she’s afraid a pissed off husband will shoot Bill one day.

FatCircles0311

This snake eater war fighter dodging sniper fire in Bosnia knows what she’s talking about.

Ya’ll better recognize.

“Clinton opposes CCW”
And this just in, hot breaking news, it has been proved that water is wet.

docstew

I know it’s old and been said, but still counts:
Taking away my right to own a gun because of mass shootings is like taking away a teetotaler’s right to drive because of drunk drivers.

Smitty

Shocked, really, I promise…

jonp

The reason she is a little hazy on CCW Laws is that she has never needed to protect herself. Her permanent Secret Service Detail does that.

I am willing to discuss not carrying to protect myself if she proposes to provide every American a personal 24/7 detail like she does.

Devtun

HRC has had tax payer funded protective detail since 1979 (1982 being only exception). Has been in her elitist bubble a very long time…
