Sergeant First Class sentenced for taping cadets
We talked about SFC Michael McClendon last May when he was fired from his job as a TAC NCO at West Point, the Military Academy when it was discovered that he had been secretly taping female cadets in various stages of undress. Well, PintoNag sends us a link to the Associated Press which reports that McClendon pleaded out and got a 33-month term in the lock up, reduction to Private and loss of all pay and allowances;
A statement released by Fort Drum said McClendon pleaded guilty to one charge including eight specifications involving indecent acts. A call seeking more information on details of McClendon’s plea wasn’t immediately returned Friday.
In exchange for the plea, the duration of McClendon’s confinement was reduced from 5 years to 33 months.
When he was charged in May, McClendon violated four articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, with some allegations dating to 2009, the military said.
He deserved it all, what with all of the pron available on the internet these days, but I’d like to see some field grade and flag officers get their penises flattened in the same manner for their bad behavior, which is worse than what the sergeant did.

Officers nearly always skate, more’s the pity.
I remember the OLD days (don’t know how it is now), when an enlisted man got a case of you know, the clap. It went in their records as “Venereal Disease”. For Officers though, it went in as “Communicable Disease”. A 1ST LT told me once that it was because they reviewed Officer’s medical records in promotion review process. Don’t know if that’s true or not. Sorry kind of off topic.
In the Philippines, it was referred to as NSU. Non-specific urethritis. And if you were a male, with any malady between your nipples and your knees, you had to go to Public Health to get “swabbed”.
If these two get booted out of the service, are they required to register as sex offenders?

I think this guy might be, since one of the crimes to which he pleaded guilty involved “indecent acts”. Dunno for sure, though.
However, I don’t think Sinclair has yet pleaded guilty to anything that meets the legal definition of a sex offense. If he’s convicted of the forcible sodomy charge, however, different story.
One can hope so.
This guy’s a creep, plain and simple. What else is he going after? Kiddie porn?
Kick his gross ass out and make him register as a sex offender, because unless he spills the beans on himself, there is no way of knowing what else he’s been doing.

If Sinclair does no jail time, that will be a travesty of justice that can’t be corrected by another travesty. This guy is a dirtball and he got what he deserved. He loses it all for a sticky sock. Smart fella. When he’s released, he’ll be qualified to sweep a factory floor somewhere. Consequences suck, eh Pvt McClendon?
Factories even do background checks for floor sweepers, he’ll be lucky to get hired as a dishwasher and beer mug polisher at Moe’s Tavern and Grill!
I know one of the Cadets that he filmed. It really messed her up mentally after she found out she was recorded and then had to testified against him. She dropped out of West Point recently, she was in her last year and would have graduated come May.
About to graduate and this messed her up? Hmmmm…
I think perhaps she made the right choice to resign. I wouldn’t want her to go all pear shaped later on when it counted.

If she was going into combat and leading troops…and this incident messed her up? God help her when the shiite hits the fan as a leader.
Sorry, I expect a bit more fortitude from folks in the military, especially officers. And yes, I would expect the same from my daughter, who happens to be an airman. I believe my kids use the phrase “Man Up”.

Maybe a way to quit and not have to pay the bucks back. Anyway…if the story is true and it messed her up…she has NO business being in the Army leading soldiers.

There is NO incongruity to being classy and yet being ready to bring pain to someone who dares to violate your person and/or your privacy.
There may, however, be legal issues — and you have to be ready to deal with that, also.
He got a BCD too, per the AP story. As an E-7 he must have been getting close to making his 20 if he wasn’t there already, and he threw it all away. And as Jonn said, there’s plenty of similar material available online if voyeurism is your thing. Why take the risk, even if you are a perv?
McClendon enlisted in 1990, so yeah he definitely had his 20 & then some…

Hard to believe that I served in the same battalion with this guy at one point. I was never in the same company so didn’t know him beyond knowing he didn’t have a reputation as a screw-up (at least not big enough that the whole battalion knew). I guess you just don’t know how twisted some people are.
Both these idiots should get what they deserve.
