Dennis Wayne McCracken; phony Vietnam vet & a “leg”

Another one from Scotty, Dennis McCracken claims that he was in the 2/7th Cavalry in Vietnam September 1965 – June 1966. He claims then that he went to Germany and was assigned to 8th Infantry Division’s 1/509th which was one of two Airborne battalions in the 8th Division in those days, in Mainz, after Vietnam.
Well, he was in the Army during that period;

But, according to his 2-1, he enlisted in June 1966 and he was in Officer Candidate School in 1967 so he’s claiming that he was in Vietnam before he enlisted;

He did get assigned to the 8th Infantry Division after OCS, but his 2-1 says not with the 509th. There isn’t even a pair of jump wings in his FOIA or jump school on his 2-1. In the picture at the top of the post, he’s claiming that he was the battlion S-2 for the 1/509th, but there aren’t any jump wings on his uniform. Why would an airborne battalion want a nasty “leg” (not that there’s anything wrong with that) on their staff?

I have a friend who sat out his draft service in Germany around the same time and he’s never tried to tell anyone that he was in Vietnam. He was called and he served when many people didn’t, or wouldn’t, and he’s proud of that. Mr. McCracken should do the same.

Perfectly good service (well, if you consider a decade in the reserves and never getting above 1LT) destroyed by total bullshit.
Lord, will these dipshits never learn?
I’m sure the LT claimed he served with 2-7 Cav in Vietnam just to “honor” all the troops who really did serve in Vietnam…(sarc x 2)
Man they just keep coming, my bookmarks are starting to look like the who’s who of FuckTards !!
Good Job LT take honorable service and flush it right down the toilet, well no one ever said LT’s were smart !
This clown uses the same pic twice. In one he claims it’s 8 months after his 13 month tour in Vietnam. In the other he claims to be a newly minted 2LT. The asshat can’t even keep his lies straight on his own Facebook page.

Thought only Marines pulled 13 month deployments to Vietnam ? Army was 12. It doesn’t matter though because cowboy McCracken didn’t pull any.
I guess it’s just too embarrassing to admit he was just a desk jockey.
It really is a shame. Plenty of guys forward are quite grateful that the “desk jockeys” are back there at their desks doing all the little stuff, like arranging for their pay, getting food shipped forward, even packing a little TP around the edges of those loads of bullets and spare parts.
Release the McCracken!!!
or should it be McCrackhead?
#6 – There was more than a few times in ’67-’68 that I wished I was “just a desk jockey.”
It appears that this guy swapped his Honor for lies of Valor.
@10……spot on, I remember coming in to base camp, after a week in the bush. A couple of those base camp guys would have two garbage cans full of beer and sodas, packed in ice. They bought it with their own money. We appreciated it more than they knew.

3/17 air cav: could you give us an update on the Tualitin VFW meeting if you were able to attend?
@13….HONDO, I did not attend, I felt there was a difference of opinion as to go or not to go. If there is a consensus of opinion regarding my going to the meeting, from you senior members I would do it in a heartbeat. Please advise.
3/17: I didn’t see any difference of opinion as to whether you should go or not – we all agreed on that part. Depending upon whether you were or were not a VFW member might determine just how much of the meeting you would be able to participate in. Or not.
But absolutely, if you are comfortable going and doing nothing else but see first hand if they are all really old geezers who are clueless about everything and being taken for a ride or are in on the con, or something in between, that would be useful information.
I would be hesitant to suggest that you go intending to be confrontational, especially if you are not a VFW member. But you are a grown adult – you know how to act!
Dang, am I gonna hafta drive across the country to go to a meeting? If I must do that, I’ll pick up PH on the way, and your beautiful state may never recover from the experience of us both blowing in together.
OWB…. I’m in, do you think going to a meeting, or just showing up as a vet during their open hours is the best way. I’m not a member of the VFW, but I’m sure a guy who is a vet could show up and have a beer and chat. What you think?
You and PH-2. Showing up? Could be a riot, place would never be the same. (Smile)
So, Phil McCracken, here, is a commissioned embellisher?
As an Infantry Officer (2LT) in Vietnam he most surely has a CIB among other awards/decorations.
I served in 2/509th PIR in 1969 & 1970. I never saw an officer in either battalion who was not airborne qualified. I don’t believe any officer was ever assigned to either battalion who was not already airborne. Everyone in the battalion had to already be airborne qualified so they could jump with the unit if it deployed. The 1st Brigade (ABN) was the airborne quick reaction force (Alpha Prime) for NATO. These two battalions were its principal combat components. There were no “nasty legs” in my battalion.
I just looked at the FOIA docs at Scotty’s website. First, he does not have the 7 prefix (airborne qualification) on his MOS (1542-infantry small unit leader), as I did. Second, it shows he was assigned to 1/87th INF, which is a “leg” unit. It does show they made him the battalion S-2 (MOS 9301-intel officer) after two glorious months as a platoon leader in Co. A.
Curiously, I took basic training with Company A, 1/87th Inf(Mtn) in 1960 at Ft. Benning, when they were part of the 2nd ID.
