Iran complains about “tensions” caused by foreign troops in Afghanistan

| December 9, 2013

Associated Press reports that Iran, the greatest supporter of terror throughout the world, told Afghan president Hamid Karzai that they’re concerned about the “tension” caused by the presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan and that Afghanistan should expel the foreigners as soon as possible so Iran can feel safer;

Earlier on Saturday, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel laid out steps to beef up defense cooperation between states within the Gulf region, while at the same time insisting that America’s military commitment to the Middle East will continue.

[…]

Iran’s Defense Minister Gen. Hosein Dehghan called the remarks by his American counterpart “threatening,” on Sunday, adding that they pave the ground for mistrust toward the U.S. while revealing the influence of Israel — Iran’s arch enemy — on Washington.

Iran believes that countries of the Gulf are capable of managing security through regional security pacts.

Yeah, a regional security pact would do wonders, and Iran is probably the best choice to broker that pact for the region. Most of the Gulf States want the US to provide them with a missile defense system to protect them from Iran, so that makes total sense. I wonder why Iran would want US troops out of Afghanistan?

In a Stars & Stripes article, they report that when NATO troops left the Bamiyan province, the most peaceful region of Afghanistan until April, the insurgency moved in, a precursor for Iran’s vision of Afghanistan in 2014 when US troops are scheduled to leave the country.

Hey if Karzai wants to start cuddling up with Iran, fine. Let’s just move up the time table and get the fuck out of there sooner.

Oh, are we in the way?

Personally, I say we sent 0bama, Joe, and Kerry all over to Iran at the same time… that should help relations. They can tour one of the peaceful high-power centrifuges that could only be for peaceful means (unlike regular centrifuges that everyone else uses for peaceful means).

Oh, and we should inform Israel in a flash email that Iran has the bomb.

richard

@3 — I submit that we should ASK Israel if Iran has the bomb; they probably know more than we do.

Countries in that part of the world may be divided into three groups: really hate the US, can tolerate the US, and are too busy with internal issues to care one way or the other. We and the Israelis share some national security interests yet the current administration treats the Israelis like the Near East trouble is all their fault — as though the Iranian Government and the wahabi’s did not exist and the US has a perfect track record dealing with the Near and Middle east.

Well, news this morning is that Pakiland is upset with us over drone strikes (they DO have nukes, BTW).

Ukraine’s president ended talks with the European Union in favor of staying cozy with Vlad and Russia, so 100,000++ people formed a crowd and a bunch of people took down Lenin’s statue. I think it was in Kiev. FWIW, Ukraine is the home of the 1997 Chernobyl reactor meltdown.

I agree with @2 EX. If we are in the way in Afghanistan, let it not be said we can’t take a hint when dinner is over. Pack our stuff, burn what’s left and leave as soon as possible. Keep ourselves back to back with Israel though. They know more about Iran than we ever will and they are our only allies in the region with military force. Keep the US out of another mid east war like Syria. I don’t believe we have heard the last of that story. Flagwaver had a great idea. Send the three stooges on a tour of Iran together. I think Boehner could handle things until we got through the constitutional process of replacing our dear leaders.

Karzai should be very wary of getting too close to Iran. Historically, that hasn’t worked out too well for the Pashtun people (or most other ethnic groups in present-day Afghanistan, for that matter).

Ex-PH2, I’d cut the Ukranian president some slack regarding relations with Russia. Energy-wise, Russia has his country by the . . . throat. (smile)

I’m still not certain why the middle east and some of the components of the former persian empire don’t currently consist of Israel and tens of thousands of square miles of glass dotted with oil wells…

Sending the fearsome trio over to negotiate is a most excellent idea! Meanwhile, let us hope that Iran’s whining about us has about as much impact as my whining about, well, anything.

Khan

Do I misunderstand this? Were the insurgents in Bamiyan, a Iran/Shia-backed, Hazara held territory until the mid-90’s when the Taliban with Pakistan’s backing took it over is being reinsurged by Shia’s or Sunni’s? The Taliban is strictly Sunni and not backed by Iran.

We have cut Iran out as a power broker for too long as we are still mad about 1979. Meanwhile we shot down their civilian aircraft, etc all while Pakistan is a far greater hot bed for terrorism and islamic fundamentalism than the non-wahabi, shia in Iran!

Cloud it be that Iran is afraid we (USA) might decide to kick their ass a third time? Joe
