What You Lose with NBC News
As someone who wouldn’t watch NBC Nightly News even if held at gunpoint by a crazed Brian Williams fan (ditto for Today) I must rely on the reporting of Brent Bozell’s network watchdog website Newsbusters.org, which usually gets it right, for the truth of this statement:
After going 72 hours without even mentioning ObamaCare on its air waves, NBC’s continued refusal to cover the disastrous policy on Thursday’s Nightly News or Friday’s Today brought that total up to 96 hours. Amazingly, Friday’s Today had the audacity to include two segments about Vice President Joe Biden buying lunch at a Washington D.C. sandwich shop rather provide any Obamacare updates.
Think about that folks: Here our nation is embroiled in the biggest government-created domestic mess it has experienced in decades, perhaps ever, and one of the supposed top three broadcast network news shows in the country and its morning counterpart have not even mentioned the subject in 96 hours? That’s four full days for the math deficient. And who knows what that figure will be by the time you read this. Apparently the term news means something elitely different in New York City Speak. Worse, what can their nationwide audience perceive as current news when the main issues of the day are being kept from them by the very folks they trust to provide it? You simply could not find a more on-point application of the expression misplaced trust if you searched forever.
What is really sad is that this is the most watched of the three major network evening news shows, likely in part to superficial soccer-mom fascination with William’s lantern-jawed and carefully-coiffed good looks. That’s probably true as well for the audience of Matt Lauer, the urbane morning metrosexual on Today. My soccer-mom hit may be a tad unfair but female viewers do dominate, especially for morning news shows, which may mean NBC sees their viewing audience as being as shallow as their broadcast content. Before you ladies berate me in the comments, kindly note those mays. Recall that a majority of those soccer-moms voted for another charming metrosexual, Barack Obama, not once but twice.
But a certainty it is that NBC’s content will remain shallow and limited in scope as long as NBC’s vacuous viewers accept this ideological censoring of what they are permitted to know about national affairs. And in this case, those are affairs of major health consequences to them and their sniffling, little red-nosed rug rats and croupy, coughing curtain climbers.
This is not just some legislative kerfuffle that NBC is ignoring; it is the largest, most comprehensive package of legislation since LBJ’s War on Poverty, affecting a sixth of our still unrecovered economy. And it’s in big, big trouble, so much so that it is in serious risk of repeal before it can crater the health insurance industry and bankrupt millions of Americans. Yet NBC considers this historic liberal overreach not worthy of their broadcast time? I saw, while looking for broadcast figures, that NBC is devoting significant airtime to the Kennedy assassination this week. But of course, hours of adulation can be allocated to the continuing canonization of another Kennedy, another skirt-chasing, lionized liberal icon fifty years dead, who set the standard for future Democrats, both presidents like Bill Clinton and pretenders like John Edwards. But no, not a minute was available to cover the worst liberal legislative clusterfark in the same five decades. We all know that had this been a Republican act, poor JFK would have been hard pressed to get an occasional mention this week at NBC amid all the scenery-chewing, mouth-frothing outrage spewing from Rockefeller Center. Do you suppose NBC might stand for Network Butt Covering for Obama? Here’s some advice for those of you who daily follow Brian and Matt:
If you form your views from NBC News, you’re a loser in multiple meanings of the term. Try FOX.

Regarding the JFK fixation, I cannot tell you how happy I was not to see a thread about it here. As for NBC and most of the rest of BIG MEDIA, I don’t watch them either. I don’t watch Fox but I visit their online site daily. There are many alternatives to newspapers and TV news today that were unavailable to us some decades ago. My favorite alternative is Mark Levin’s radio show. The guy gets it. I mean, he nails it. If I were king (unfortunately, that’s obamaman’s role for now), I would mandate that everyone in the country listen to Levin for at least 30 minutes every day. He, however, would strongly oppose such a mandate as unconstitutional!
There’s an old expression in the news business: when a man bites a dog it’s news, when a dog bites a man it isn’t. Perhaps NBC realized that Democrats destroying the country, through either incompetence or ill intent, isn’t really news.
I should point out that Williams and NBC Nightly News ignored the Fast & Furious scandal for 16 MONTHS before reporting on it at the time Holder was held in contempt of Congress.
Erudite, as always, Poetrooper.
For TV viewing audiences, yes, women do vote with their crotches, not their brains. It gives new meaning to the term ‘brainless bimbos’. But NBC is not the top-rated network for news, no matter what NBC’s demographics may say, because what USED to be three major networks has long since been supplanted by other equally-available networks that are not biased entirely in favor of bodaprez and his cronies.
In re: JFK’s assassination, I was always quite sure that it was Nixon behind it all, as revenge for losing to JFK. And if the idiots who perpetuate the Kennedy family as the ideal American iconic family, and who weren’t even alive in 1963, ever get over that crap, someone please wake me out of my nap. OK?
I find it deeply offensive that Skakel a Kennedy cousin, who was the prime suspect in the beating death of a neighbor girl, is out of jail now on bond. I wish that entire bunch of people would somehow just sink away into the background where they belong.
Perusing NBC’s web site, the blackout continues. If NBC doesn’t report it, I guess they think it doesn’t happen?
Everyone will be relieved to know that Derrick Rose is on crutches following surgery, though. Or that the Big 12, SEC and Pac 10 stakes are on the line.
Meanwhile, FOX, which is covering this debacle, has gone from having an audience size comparable to MSNBC and CNN combined, to DOUBLE the audience size.
Seems viewers these days get more current events from Jay Leno’s jokes than from Nightly News.

I mentioned Mark Levin. Here’s a direct link to his 21 Nov broadcast. It will autoplay. If you are unfamiliar with him, listen for five minutes. You will immediately recognize the truth of his words. And he charges nothing for links to his previous broadcasts, unlike some radio hosts. He talks about the Nuclear Option passed by Reid. (Three Dems voted against it. Joe Manchin was one.)

If it weren’t for the wide view and access available on the internet, and live streaming from many news stations, I would have to rely on the 3 (no longer major) networks.
I’m grateful for the fact that I can do this.
I haven’t watched an alphabet networks news in years. This is the reason why.
Repeating that Obamacare is a disaster really isn’t news. They created something outrageous to cause chaos and destruction. It worked. And that isn’t really news either.

That sums it all up for me in a nutshell, fuck ’em all to death up the ass sideways with an empty Thunderbird bottle after Paul K. “Pee Wee Herman” Wickre is done with it!
OWB–that’s true. However, NBC, had it any journalistic integrity whatsoever, outside the possible exceptions of Lowell Thomas or Tim Russert, would have explained how this goatfuck of a program was going to cost ordinary Americans thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars per year out of their already dwindling paychecks.
No, they choose not to because they agree with the agenda put forth by this SCOAMF and his sycophants.
Journalistic integrity? Surely no one actually expects such a thing from any of the entertainment industry that pretend to be news organizations these days.
@12 OWB-Gotta disagree with you there. It may not be news for folks like us who get our information from a variety of sources but for people who rely on NBC for their news it would really be news to hear that their government is about to give it to ’em in the shorts courtesy of the Democrat party. Surveys show that millions of people really do rely on a single daily source for their news and for those who use NBC as that source, they’re really losing out, which of course was the premise of my piece.
There’s a very good reason the term low information voter has come into common use. People such as those who read this site regularly as we do are a distinct minority in this country. I do not find it unusual to find fairly intelligent friends and family members to be totally unaware of major news developments. They simply don’t make the effort or do not have the time to keep up.
As someone commented earlier, those same people who follow NBC went for months never hearing of the government scandal called Fast & Furious. Think that might have been breaking news to them even though it had been on FOX, CBS, major news publications and the Internet for a year and a half?
OWB–back in the 50’s and 60’s, there at least used to be some pretense of it, even if the anchors on the major newscasts were liberal (Cronkite, et al.)
But in the 1980’s, the network gurus decided that the news divisions were to be money-generating enterprises rather than factually-based news organizations.
Funny, but over the past 30 years, despite the growth of the population, the audience numbers have remained fairly constant, meaning the audience SHARE has declined significantly, with the corresponding loss of revenue. One would think that if the networks were so interested in money, they might want to do something that would draw in viewers, like HONESTLY report the news, and not just parrot the DNC talking points in 20-second sound bites.
Nbc news gives you news not lies like fox not news ;but republican propaganda! Media matters has a list of surveys that found out that people who don’t watch the news know more about the news then fox not news zombies because they don’t know fox lies! Also check out the video out foxed on fox lies!
Rachel Maddow drove ignorant white trash hannity off with her wit and humor!
Jesus, vwp, don’t you have something better to do, like blow homeless for hits of their bottles of MD 20/20?
Or to be a little more direct–GDIAF already, fuckstick.
VWP,
Is that all you’ve got? Obviously you are also a poser, claiming to be a VWP, when you are probably a recent graduate of a semi-reputable liberal arts college with a slightly less than useless degree back in Mom’s basement with nothing else to do beyond irritating your betters from the anonymous safety of the internet connection Mommy pays for.
Speaking of low information voters…
If you look at the home page for MSN, it reflects the mental state of the ‘viewing’ public. The most common denominator in interest is not what affects your life and you personally. It’s the dumbest stuff available, like ‘lines at stores for Black Friday’ and ‘Doctor Who celebrates 50 years’.
Now, how these things are determined to be more important than real news, such as how a change in the Fed’s chairman will affect your job, e.g., whether or not your company can keep you employed, is beyond me, but the withering away of real news is worrisome. If only crap-level news is worth reporting, then why am I going to the UK’s Guardian and Daily Mail to keep up with what’s going on in the real world?
Why am I more likely to get a well-thought-out essay on how military cuts will have a sinking effect on the economy, both locally and nationally, from a local newspaper than from a so-called national news source?
And why should even a source like Yahoo News be more informed than a national network like NBC?
This isn’t about liberal or conservative bias. It’s about dumbing down the news to what’s entertaining, not what matters. Give me one good reason that a pair of bimbos like Kanye West and Kim K. are newsworthy.
@21. Yes, he’s a poser. He’s a pretender, protester wannabe. He has no credibility whatsoever. Oh, he has the posters on the wall but he bought them online and they’re all reproductions. He even has a Boones Farm Apple Wine bottle with a half used candle jammed in it. That’s about it, except for the library books he took out on Woodstock and the SDS about six years ago and never returned. Ripping off the library is his idea of striking a blow against the establishment. He probably was outed at DU and is barred from there. So he comes here with his charade thinking that we’ll regard him as genuine by virtue of his screen name. And that’s a fail. Pathetic
PH2–so the liberal elites can lead the sheeple that much more easily.
Hey, you asked. I know college graduates who couldn’t name their Senators or Congressional representative, but they can tell you in nauseating detail who blew what song on American Idol last season.
Frankly, Obama doesn’t piss me off as much as the millions of idiots who put him into office–TWICE.
NHSparky, when JFK was running for office, I saw the same scenes in the newspapers and TV news broadcasts that we saw with bodaprez: a bunch of bored, horny housewives who had barely outgrown adolescence and teen crushes, mixed with older women whose husbands were fooling around — all of them grooving on the mere thought of being within sniffing distance of JFK and Jackie. All of them grinning like apes that had just had hundreds of bananas tossed to them. My mother was one of them. She was just beside herself about JFK.
Can you say ‘rock star’? It was like watching the Beatles arrive a in New York City a few months after Kennedy was assassinated — exactly the same thing.
The difference is that Kennedy, while he was a philandering pig, served in and loved the Navy, respected the military, and understood the importance of the job.
bodaprez just doesn’t give a shit.
@26 Ex-PH2: You can’t imagine how refreshing it is for men with common sense to hear a woman with similar common sense say what they, the men, know as a certainty, but fear to express. I’ve long believed that one of the reasons this nation keeps sinking into the fertilizer pit of socialism is due to the tendency of American women to vote their sensitivities and their sex glands instead of their brains.
American Thinker edited out my criticism of women viewers of NBC so as not to offend their female readers. Damn I so hate that word, “offend.” It has become a very useful and effective tool of the PC police to gag their opposition.
As far as Kennedy loving the Navy? I have a strong hunch that he was playing John Kerry two decades earlier, to build his resume for future political aspirations. John Kerry then played JFK two decades later for the same reason. Consider the irony of that. Kennedy was a pretty sorry example of a president and yet now he’s revered around the world by guess who? The uninformed. Surprise, surprise…
Belive me, sKerry has one-tenth the IQ of JFK and certainly not his quick comeback skills, nor his charisma for women. Not even close. Not defending him, just saying there are oceans between those two.
So, you have obama, who can’t put one of two sentences together in less than three minutes, because he has to think between syllables; and then there’s suckup sKerry, who says whatever he thinks will appease his public’s image of him.
I would say we are completely screwed, but because I know that there are serious changes underway in every sense of the word, I don’t expect the doofus in charge bodaprez to last a full second term, no matter how much the spin goes to cover up his sub-sub=par performance.
I’m offended that the low info voters are so easily offended. I guess they just don’t like the truth. But then, you have to ask, if the truth hurts so much, then why is it so important to keep after that asinine stuff about Marilyn Monroe and JFK and RFK porking her? What point is there in that? That is a sick, gross example of how the vulgar attract the even more vulgar.
Oh, good grief. Just saw a TV ad for MSNBC. Or their website. Or something. It really was a campaign ad for Obama! I laughed more than someone my age should laugh with a full bladder.
I notice the comments drop off greatly at night. They must close the computer down early at the home or institution
I notice that yo momma be in bed, that be why you be on the computer?
@30, or it could be that people do that thing called sleep.
Hey VFPoser, don’t you have a welfare check to scam for?
It’s not that you have a dissenting opinion. We would respect that if you were to present it intelligently. But your posts always sound like a trolling asshole, your arguments are barely coherent at best, and your spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure wouldn’t pass a 2nd Grade English test. This strips you of any credibility whatsoever and pretty much convinces everybody that you’re a blowhard and a fucking idiot. I expect even the 5th-columnists over at DU would likely find you just as annoying as we do.
If you ever want anybody to take you seriously, I recommend you take some remedial classes in English Composition at the very least. Until then, kindly fuck off and die.
@30 – Hey, moron – the comments drop off at night? Not so much. If paul of the ballsack is around they ramp up. He provides some amusement.
You, on the other hand, sleep all day and stay up all night. Working the graveyard shift? Doubtful. You’re too illterate to do much more than offer fries with an order.
The only time I see MSNBC or NBC news is when I watch the weather channel, their news outside the weather is provided by MSNBC/NBC there is no choice and I usually change the channel at that point.
If something happens I check CNN, Fox first and then to get the Gov-slant I check NBC usually the news is not what’s news and not what the other two networks cover.
Chi-Town Pravda I do not need nor believe.
Always change the channel when NBC news comes on.
What isn’t reported isn’t news.
What is reported is Bush’s Fault(C)
@33 and 34, vwp doesn’t sleep, he’s on another 4 or 5 day meth bender. He’ll crash, leave TAH alone til he recovers and scores another dose or two, then be back, posting at all hours. Look at just a couple of the symptoms of meth use, he matches to a T,
1. Insomnia, tremors, jaw-clenching.
2. Agitation, irritability, talkativeness, panic, compulsive fascination with repetitive tasks, violence, confusion.
Vwp, you should have been a blowjob the night you were conceived, just another night that your momma was doing tricks behind the bus station for fifty cents a pop, and she gave change!!
UpNorth, you could also be describing psul the uncool a/k/a psulie the bitchie-boiar.
They’re both illiterate. They both cobble words together with bad grammar and reprehensible lack of use of proper punctuation, and neither of them can create a coherent sentence, or even make an argument that makes sense. And they also stay up late at night, sometimes all night, writing drivel.
They are probably clones or lost twins. We should get them together.
