TRADOC wants your input on women in the Infantry
Chief Tango sends us a link to the Army Times which reports that the Army Training and Doctrine Command wants to know what you think about women in the Infantry. I guess it’s because they’re too lazy to check all of the opinions you’ve expressed on the internet;
The survey is meant “to identify any potential challenges associated with opening the 11 series MOS to female Soldiers,” according to the survey website.
The Training Command Analysis Center is conducting the survey as part of its cultural gender integration study, one of two assessing the impact of integrating women into combat arms.
The Army sent infantry soldiers a link to the survey in early October. It includes about 120 questions asking for soldiers’ opinions on whether women will be able to handle the physical demands of the job, what the impact on morale will be if women join the infantry and their opinions on whether women will expect special treatment for “female problems.”
Apparently the survey asks questions about whether or not you’d follow orders issued by a woman. You know how to answer that one, right? I’ve had male commanders whose orders I questioned. COB6 and I can name one who tried to get us shot up by friendly fire.
I like the Marine Corps idea better – they’re actually putting women through the paces to work out the problems rather than taking the lazy way out with a survey. But, hey, we don’t call them Big Army for nuthin’.

They don’t give a rat’s ass what soldiers’ think about this. What they are gauging is how many PPs it will produce to overcome the opposition. And, although women in the infantry is a silly idea, I think it is also ridiculous to democratize the Army and make any decision by survey and poll outcomes. Leadership (such as it is) is supposed to make decisions, issue orders, and that’s that.
like all of the other “surveys” the Army has done, they’ll probably ignore the results when they don’t fit into the preconceived solution.

morale will be great, until an actual deployment. can you imagine how much easier it would be if barrack hos were actually assigned to live in the barracks? no more sneaking them out before first call or trying to convince the 1sg that one of your privates is a cross-dresser and thats why he has a full drawer of women’s underwear. have yall seen the new Damned Few video?
To be fair, many of the questions did seem to directly address the real issues raised by CMF 11 Soldiers. Too bad they’re going to ignore the responses they don’t like.
Are they only asking active duty? Oh, well, I’ve already said what I think. They can read my posts.
Actually I’m pretty sure they don’t want my opinion anymore than they want the statistical injury data associated with training females for high impact aerobic activities.
I am not inherently opposed, but there is more than just adjusting standards or not changing standards. There is an actual result of females being involved in high level athletic jumping and turning activities. Those are sports related physical injuries that occur more frequently than males, that’s a fact. The costs associated with treating injuries is also higher because the rehab it typically longer.
The military can choose to ignore that and figure out to f#ck those women out of benefits post facto I guess, it seems to be what is done lately….make a promise to veterans and soldiers, alter the promise later to reduce what was initially agreed to and hose as many people as possible to save a few bucks so we can educate the illegal aliens and get them on a path to citizenship.

So, this will be short: sent my opinion along with some questions to TAH a few weeks ago when I did this. As I completed the survey I saw an Army that will be placing blame for any failure solely on the shoulders of low and middle level leaders. Only a handful of questions were standards-based (sent you all the ones pertaining to 11B), while most of the rest seemed to challenge our abilities as leaders in adapting and making this work.
As I’ve stated before: I’m through stating my personal opinion of females in my MOS. As an NCO I’ll do all I can to make it work. If it fails and I one of those to blame, to hell with it, I’m done. If it works and I silently watch as our politicians and senior leaders take the credit, fine, I’m retiring as soon as possible anyway.
They are using the MOS tasks to develop a physical test. They did some of this at Ft Hood- there were men that couldn’t pass.

But when you have people playing videogames, watching movies, and reading books where gender makes absolutely no difference in face-to-face combat, it was only a matter of time until the unrealistic fictional portrayals gave way to unrealistic social engineering.
I’m not too worried though. Reality always asserts itself on the battlefield. These policy changes will last until the next big war, then they’ll be quietly scrapped, just like the Israelis did with their experiments along these same lines…
The problem, Pave Low John, is what to do about the needless casualties and battlefield failures during the first few days of that next big war. Because what usually causes policies to get scrapped quickly during wartime are battlefield failures and excess casualties.
It is probably just so they can identify who they need to purge.
They will pick and choose the comments and make it Kumbaya-like.
Let’s shove a bad idea that will lead to more battlefield deaths and decrease unit capability… all to make us look nice, good and equal. We are NOT equal.
Wonder if they are ‘investigating’ any of the individuals potentially giving answers they pervieve to be negative to the goal?
It is clear that the political appointees at the Pentagon don’t care about the “results” of the survey, any more than they did the survey on the end of DADT. This one has the same actual goal: the formulation of the propaganda campaign to ram the policy down the throats of naysayers.
And it looks like this time round, more people recognize the reality.
They have been touting this nonsense since at least the 80’s. I smell the DACOwitches and their spells…
Women aren’t supposed to be 11B’s! Ridiculous! And this is coming from a woman!
The contemporary Army LOVES surveys.
And if you answer one…you start getting all of them.
I bet I get at least two DA level surveys in my inbox per week.
Everything from the design of the new Army PT uniform, the the POI used in the WLC to Ethical Training for new Officers..etc, etc
The DADT one is my most memorable. I bet I spent two hours on that one. The online survey..followed immediately by an on-line chat with an analyst probing more deeply into my answers.
