Saturday morning feel good story
Let’s kick off this weekend with a good guy with a gun story from Grand Rapids when some folks coming back from a rap concert were robbed outside a chicken joint.
Police said they responded to the restaurant after reports of gunfire. Officers said they found one man at the scene who had been shot. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he died.
Police then were told that a second man had been shot, and had been taken by a friend to a hospital, where he also died.
With multiple victims and shooters at the scene, the details about exactly what happened outside the restaurant are taking a while to unravel.
Authorities interviewed a man at the scene who said he was being robbed at gunpoint when he pulled out a gun and shot the robbery suspect. That robbery suspect was killed. The man who shot the robbery suspect has not been charged with any crime.
That article sucks; this one is more clear on events;
Police say 20-year-old Delorian Alexander Taylor pulled out a gun and tried to rob another man who was a concealed pistol license holder, police said. The CPL holder shot and killed Taylor.
Someone then fired shots from the parking lot and hit 23-year-old Dominick Floyd. Floyd was taken to a hospital where he later died.
So, yeah it sucks real bad that some thug fired into the crowd from parking lot and actually killed someone, but the legal gun owner killed a bad guy. But, prayers go out to the family of Dominick Floyd.

That area of Grand Rapids is bad. No thinking person finds themselves there when the street lights come on. 4 blocks to the South, at Hall & Division, on the 27th of October, at another restaurant, a man was shot in the legs and carted off to the hospital in critical condition. http://grsouth.wzzm13.com/news/news/179523-man-critical-condition-after-shooting
Strangely enough, it was another restaurant selling the chicken, appropriately named the Chicken Coop.
Good on the CPL holder for doing what he did.
The police are looking for a “friend” of Delorian Taylor for the second shooting.
A CPL is not sufficient for me to want to go into that part if town. Now if I could have my AR locked and loaded, along with some body armor, I just may think about it.
Been there, Pride? Not a great place to be, even wearing body armor, carrying a Sig .40 and having access to a Remington 870 in the cruiser.
I know the neighborhood. I use at as a shortcut sometimes going from north to south in GR. I almost NEVER drive that stretch of Division in the nighttime however. Living in Muskegon, we have our own DMZs here. Usually the only htings I’m interested in going to see on Division are Vertigo Records and Young’s Army surplus. My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Dominick Taylor and a hearty Well Done to the guy with the CCW.
