Kerkorian, the phony SEAL Police Chief of Waukegan, service “not relevant”
Wayne Motley, the mayor of Waukegan, IL says that the phony claims of his police chief, Robert Kerkorian, that he was a Navy SEAL, are irrelevant according to a link sent to us by Ex-PH2 and Mark.
…retired Lake County State’s Attorney investigator Mark Pleasant called for an independent investigation into whether or not the chief falsely claimed on a 1987 city job application to have trained as a Navy SEAL.
“I think that the citizens of Waukegan have a right to know what that truth is,” Pleasant said to the City Council on Monday, June 17, stressing that he was speaking as a resident of the city and not in any way related to his career as a Lake County law enforcement community.
“This is a defining moment for Mayor Motley and his administration, and it’s a defining moment for this City Council,” Pleasant added.
Yeah, what good is a known liar on the stand testifying against citizens? How does a known liar command the respect of his subordinate officers?
Mayor Motley dismissed it as essentially being irrelevant to his qualifications to function as the chief of police in Waukegan. I respectfully disagree,” said Pleasant, who told the council he comes from a military family.
“Chief Kerkorian is reported by many to have been a very good police officer throughout his career, and I sincerely appreciate his service to the community. However, any claim to have trained among our nation’s most elite military warriors, if it’s false, is most serious and relevant.”
Indeed.
Category: Phony soldiers
Uh, hizonner is just a wee bit confused methinks. Especially if that whopping six month career ended with a discharge that would have prevented Kerkorian from being hired in the first place.
Keep hammering on that sore point, Mr Pleasant. The ultimate in citizen involvement in Gubbment.
As for Hizzonor, do people call his administration Teh Motley Crue?? (Or other unsuitable variations thereof). (Motley was also a type of checkered clothing worn by clowns and jesters).
As for Hizzonor covering for Teh Po-Po Chief — after all, it IS Illinois, where things are done “the Chicago way”, where truth and facts don’t matter, only feeeeelings, emotions and political expediency.
It really is for the citizens of Waukegan to decide this one. If they are satisfied with having a colossal liar as their chief of police, then they are the ones who will pay the price for their decision.
We’ve done our job – brought out the truth to a national audience and given the truth to them on a silver platter. Now it’s up to them.
This seems like a small town and in small towns people talk.
I guarantee you this is being discussed a he barbershop, high school football games, fishing on the lake, the ladies’ “Red Hat” club, in front of the feed store, etc.
As word builds, pressure will build.
The Mayor cannot keep avoiding this.
And if he does, I have an odd feeling that “other” things previously suppressed will start making there way to the surface.
Thank you for following through on this. After I saw the first article on this in the local newspaper, a friend who was in police work in the same county for many years and had contact with him on the job said Kerkorian was always bragging about his “military service.”
Just call the Police Station or Mayor’s Office and ask for the Head Shitbag in Charge.
Curious to see if they threaten you for asking open, honest and straightforward questions about him/them and his/their jobs.
Some of them do, especially AWPA.
To quote the presumptive 2016 Democratic Party Presidential Candidate, “What difference, at this point, does it make?” With a total of six months of active duty, he was more qualified than any veteran that may have served an entire contract honorably.
Apparently the Mayor doesn’t think the police need to tell the truth…
have all the criminals make a class action lawsuit- stating that the evidence provided by and/or testimony against all the plaintiff’s was fabricated or questionable due to patterns of misconduct on part of Chief Kerkoian
and any officer he fired of caused to be fired by saying he lied then, how do we know he didn’t lie when I was fired.
Those were always my trainers words to me- If you lie once, it will come back to haunt you and/or all of your case work.
“…but he’s a good guy!”
@9. I believe that course of action may be under way. Somewhere, there’s a jail-house lawyer, or a public defender in Illinois digging. Sadly, this will probably end up in people walking, who should be in prison.
@11
I know, but it will remind all who slings tin, this is the cost of failure to your oath and vows
He broke this, now the piper demands his tribute
Another butterball civil servant claiming unearned honor-so what’s new? As UpNorth points out-this guy will pay. The local real Vets will see that he’s both outed and ousted!
What goes around, comes around. Just glad I don’t live in Waukegan. They have a LOT of acts to clean up.
And Kerkorian didn’t have to do what he did. The sad part is that if he busted anyone now sitting in jail, his police work is tarnished.
The Mayor needs to be shown the door as well either through a vote of no confidence or at the next election cycle.
And where are the City Councilmembers?
Oh, that! Well, GT, they’re over at the Full Moon on Rt. 41 having breakfast in the back room and tipping Maria, the chicana waitress, really big because she waits on them hand a foot.
@15 Green Thumb-The councilmembers are probably out playing airsoft . To quote you “Turds”.
This is the editorial in this morning’s paper:
Time for Motley, chief to come clean
June 21, 2013 12:26PM Updated: June 22, 2013 2:13AM
Waukegan mayor calls police chief’s past military history ‘irrelevant’
Wayne Motley had served barely a month as Waukegan’s new mayor before encountering the first momentous test of his leadership.
The job requires broad dedication to civic integrity. What we see thus far makes us wonder if Motley appreciates that standard.
The deflecting and duplicitous non-explanations about the military record of new Police Chief Robert Kerkorian offer little honor to the chief or the mayor.
It’s time to speak about the value of integrity, Mr. Mayor.
Hiding under the rhetorical table is lousy policy, and worse, pointless. This won’t go away.
Motley has suggested reported falsifications on Kerkorian’s 1987 original police job application are “rumors.” They are not.
Kerkorian was “outed” by Don Shipley, a former SEAL who exposes military fakers online. Defrocking “valor thieves” is his life’s mission.
If Kerkorian did not lie, he could simply say so. His silence is thunderous.
Motley has stated repeatedly that such a lie, even if true, would be “irrelevant.” That is patently false. A legitimate SEAL alumnus would have been a prize for the Waukegan police force, and veterans consider such falsehoods the highest insult.
The lie steals the reputation of warriors who earned that respect with their blood. SEALs are expected to be heroes.
Motley has reiterated repeatedly that Kerkorian was picked to be chief because the two are chums. But public integrity is not a function of friendship, and though Kerkorian’s police record might be exemplary, the lie that launched that career is shameful.
The shame does not diminish with time or pretense. A lie cannot be forgiven if the liar clings to it.
What the mayor and the chief need is full disclosure and a deep apology.
This is a defining moment for the mayor and his chief. To this point, the definition is not very attractive.
Kerkorian probably has something on Mayor Motley. Politics as usual.
In the words of our SoS, ‘At this point, what difference does it make?’
I’m not defending this dude, but rarely does anyone get through to any position power unless there is leverage. Either they have leverage on someone to get there, or someone has leverage on them to keep them in line.
Look at Obummer. The elites are literally taunting anyone with a brain or an ounce of integrity with that puppet.
I spent 10 years working as a civil servant. I know for a fact that , in civil service (and within the private business work force) that falsification on an application is grounds for dismissal. This is one step higher. As many have pointed out, his false claims put “paid” to his integrity and call into question his being able to be truthful under any circumstances-including testifying under oath. I would very much like to be able to thank former investigator Mark Pleasant (the man on point locally) for sinking his teeth into this issue. I wish him success in outing this pretentious faker.
Sorry, meant “ousting”. Jonn & company already outed this asshole.
CV…I am still pursuing this issue, with the help of others. If your friend from this area would be willing to talk to me I would like to do so. I can be reached through my website at http://www.markepleasant.com. MEP

I do not think I would want to live in Waukegan, IL.
GT, I spent a few months there… No you would not want to live there.
Shithole.
GT, THEY probably would not want you, or even me, to live in Waukegan, IL!
Waukegan is the home of Ray Bradbury. He spent most of his childhood buried in the book stacks at the library, which is now an empty building down by the Metra tracks. Jack Benny came from Waukegan, too. You’d think with that history alone, the town could do a better job of taking care of itself, but it doesn’t. Great Lakes has regular recruit graduations and this brings in business to local motels. But it’s like none of that matters, and nothing shows that anyone gives a crap about the town itself.
Someone has taken the old hotel, which stood empty for 30 years, and turned it into apartments for artists. Will it bring in business? I doubt it. There was a plan announced a few years ago to develop housing on the lake front. Never happened.
This dustup with the new mayor and Kerkorian bearhugging each other is too typical for words.
If you move to the area, move to Gurnee or north to Antioch or Wadsworth. The taxes aren’t any lower, but you aren’t in Waukegan.
No, I don’t live there, either, just in the general vicinity. If it weren’t for the forest preserve, I’d move to Wisconsin.
The Sanitation Department rocks!
As does Parks and Recreation.
Being a former Navy SEAL isn’t a prerequisite for Kerkorian to be a Chief of Police, no. Being exposed as a liar and a fraud, on any subject, is most certainly a automatic disqualifier. Padding out his resume with something like that is fraud and lying on an official application. Every single Department I’ve ever seem includes this in its background investigation. Every Department I’ve seen includes lying during the application process to be an automatic no-go. What about all his cops? What else are they letting slide over there? If the Chief is a fraud then what else is going in the rank and file in the streets?
What happens if Kerkorian is subpoenaed? What if he has to give testimony to support himself or one of his officers in regards to their conduct in a professional context? Well, now he’s a proven liar and his testimony is worthless. The city and the Department is hurt, not to mention any officer needing his testimony.
He fills a statutorily authorized position, he’s not elected. He needs to be removed from office immediately in order to preserve the integrity of his office, his department, the city he works for and the ability of his subordinates to do their jobs. The citizens of the city should keep all this in mind the next time their mayor is up for election. In fact, I’d say this is grounds for recall.
Sorry Mr Mayor, this guy is a lying bum. He lied to get his job, you are well within your rights to dump him unless that is both you and he are on the take from some other political puppet masters.
I stand by the mayor 100% here.
Just what does integrity and telling the truth have to do with being the police chief?
@28 Just laughed coffee through my nose! Man that stings. Thanks for the LMAO.
@31- Excellent point. If integrity and telling the truth are demanded of police chiefs, next the same thing will be demanded of congressmen and senators. We must nip this in the bud.
Thank you Mayor Motley for the courageous stand you are taking.
Yeah, Motley just got the job of city manager-mayor, so he’s trying to hang onto his paycheck.
Kerkorian may have a ‘good cop’ track record, but he inflated his resume and he should have known better.
Anyone arrested by Kerkorian in an offense can call his testimony into question and maybe get a conviction overturned. That goes back 20 years. That’s how much damage may come out of this.
First time I read this article about Kerkorian, I missed the best parts. Three officers have committed suicide?? Mayor is a former cop who was on SWAT team with Kerkorian?? (I bet the Mayor has padded his “resume” too!) At least Don Shipley and Mark Pleasant will continue to bird-dog him.
