Norway votes to draft women

| June 16, 2013

Tom sends us a link to Reuters which reports that Norway has become the first NATO nation to draft women.

“Rights and duties should be the same for all,” said Labor lawmaker Laila Gustavsen, a supporter of the bill. “The armed forces need access to the best resources, regardless of gender, and right now mostly men are recruited.”

Norway has been at the forefront in the fight for gender equality, introducing measures such as requiring all public limited companies to fill at least 40 percent of their board seats with women. On Wednesday the country celebrated a century since Norwegian women won the right to vote.

[…]

“This is historic. For me it is fantastic to make history, for the armed forces and for women,” Gustavsen said.

But I don’t see the US making the move to be “historic”. The only reason that the Supreme Court gave us when they said drafting men only was constitutional was because women couldn’t serve in combat, but that restriction has been lifted, so you’d think that the women’s movements would be pressuring Congress to draft women, too.

You want equality…move to Norway! I love it!

B Woodman

Right. I can’t wait to hear from the womyn’s (wymon’s? whatever) movement in academia how great this is, and that they’re moving there immediately.
But if all we hear is silence (which is what I expect), then it will be another example of “I want all the privileges but none of the responsibilities” leftist Libturb elitism.

If you guys recall what some of you said in regard to deployments, the wimmins who found they were being deployed and didn’t wanna go ran around hitting on random men to get them preggers so they wouldn’t have to go. Those are the wimmins you don’t want to keep.

The rest of the women pulled up their big-girl panties and went. Those are the women you want to keep.

If it’s going to happen here, the draft has to be reinstated, and I see nothing wrong with demanding of women the same things that are demanded of men.

The women’s movement was and is about choices for women: jobs, careers, graduate school, and, for some, 1.25 children who play soccer. A draft is antithetical to liberation. It’s about someone telling you where to go, when to go, what to do, how to do it, and for how long. Then there are the other factors: mud and blood. For most American women, that’s not what their mothers and grandmothers had in mind for them when they torched their bras.

The Feminist movement would scream bloody murder if we asked women to even register for the draft. They don’t believe in “equality”, they’ve never stood for “equality”, they’ve always been for preserving whatever advantages women had while opposing any advantages men had. They are more accurately described as the misandrist movement.

Well, c’mon, Feminists, you wanted equality…

Frankly Opinionated

If the feminists truly wanted equality, they would have demanded that we make the restrooms around the country, “unisex”.
I remember a military that had women serving in all branches, but in women only units, giving them a degree of protection that they lost when they discarded that concept for the regular service branch assignments.
The WACs, the WAVEs, the WAFs and the BAMs served a very useful purpose, and many women had great careers within those units. The “Social experiment” of women in regular service has been costly, mostly in dollars, but also in morale.

@3 Well said. If we are going to truly and fully go unisex then the draft is the only equitable system. You can’t stop a woman from getting pregnant but you can put in the her enlistment contract that if you get pregnant…you are out, no benefits. I think that is only fair. The truth is the feminists really don’t want ALL the equality that comes with the so called equality they harp about. Unisex restrooms…roger. Unisex dying a horrible battlefield death…now wait a minute, let’s rethink this. You mean my little girl could be held captive by a bunch of Muslim extremists? That will be the American thought and I think it is today.

Additionally the military has long been the social experiment love child of the liberals. I know WAFS, WAVES and WACS who did and do serve honorably and my last post is not intended to take away any of there honor. To the leftist Admin in this nation I say…play social, school recess games in grade school. Not on the battlefield. I was in Vietnam and thankful I did not have the extra emotional load of thinking about a woman in the squad or platoon taking care of herself. I am old in my thoughts and opinions but I think there are some things we need to be honest with ourselves about as a society. By the way, how many woman in the NBA, MLB and NFL? None. There is a common sense reason for that and I would rather play a major league sport than hump a 50-60 lb. ruck sack, god knows how far only to stop for a firefight instead of rest and chow. I probably did not get my point across well but I tried.

Sparks, you made your point perfectly in #s 8,9. You and I are of nearly the same age, and our generation of men were of the type taught that it is we who must stand between our women and the wolf. It is we who are obligated to “hold the door”, “light the smokes”, “help with the jacket”, and yes, “fight our wars in their defense”. Only with the Baby boomers did this privilege/obligation begin to be taken from us.

@10 Thank you for your confirmation. I wasn’t sure I said it well. I was raised the same as you in a home that said, yes sir and yes ma’am.

By the way the doc is testing me for what he says may be a little, early onset dementia. My dad had it also. So when I post I can’t often get out what is going through my head as well as I would like. I read you and Ex-PH and 2/17 and I am sort of envious of your cognitive abilities and skills at writing your thoughts. Not sure why I wrote this except maybe others will understand if I post something that sounds whacky.

Sparks and Frank, who stands between us when the hyenas are at the door and you aren’t here?

(I prefer hyenas as the badasses over wolves. No offense meant.)

I don’t like this dumbing down of our society to make everyone feel special any more than you do, but my mother insisted on being dependent and then whined about it.

Ex-PH2: It seems to me that you are a strong and capable woman and that you don’t need anyone to stand between you and danger, but I also think that there are relatively few women like you (or at least there are few women with the means to make themselves heard who are).

It seems to me that there are a lot more women who insist-in the same breath-that they are strong, independent and bold but also need any number of special exemptions and protections (I do not presume that these types make up the majority of American women, but they sure do seem the loudest), as I said earlier far too many feminists seem to only want to preserve any advantages women have ever had while attacking whatever advantages men have ever had.

As I said: The womyn of the Feminazi Movement want all of the equal privleges without the any of the equal responsibilities that go with them. When anyone (especially a MAN!) points out their hypocrisy, they scream “SEXIST!”

Ex-PH2

@13 68W58 — That was the same annoying stuff that some feminists in the 1990s were spouting — I want it all and I want to be treated like a special person — and I thought it had died away. It just seems to have raised its silly head again.

See, in the 1960s and 1970s, it was all about feminists separating themselves from men. Well, I didn’t want to live then in a world without men — who on earth would? — and I don’t now, nor do I think anyone should just hand things to me on a plate just because I’m a girl.

Like spoiled brats (which I think they are), the ‘treat me special’ bunch refuse to recognize that if you want the access, you have to put up with all the crap that comes with it, like it or not. There are plenty of successful, strong, self-sufficient women who don’t act like that, and you know who they are. They’ll hold the door or open it for you becuase your hands are full, but if you open the door for them they don’t snipe at you about it. They’ll pick up your favorite beer at the store because not only is it on sale, there’s a BOGO or a coupon for it, too. They’ll get your favorite set of barbecue tools, but they’ll also ask you to help around the house. We can still be girlie girls, you know. It doesn’t mean we’re pushovers.

There’s another thing: when I went into the Navy in 1967, I thought I would be able to get into a combat camera group. The Navy did not do that then. Things have changed. I would still opt for that, but I’d expect the guys in the group to behave themselves.

There is a lot of selfishness involved in the current so-called feminist bunch. It smacks loudly of being spoiled brats, and I am fed up with it. There’s a huge difference between strong, independent, self-sufficient women and just plain spoiled brat bitches.

They give real women a bad name.

Ex-PH2

Sorry about the long rant. Had to get it out.

brat

@ 16….Amen and AMEN! I agree with every word of what you wrote…I have watched the feminists (that dreaded “F” word!) for years, and I have come to the conclusion most of them are damn hypocrits. Some of them spout the doctrine for “all” their “sisters” until any woman dares to not toe their party line. Then? You are a pariah, and on your own…I know this one all too well. I get beyond pissed off as I look around our countries and around the world, and hear nothing but deafening silence as despots rape and murder and everything in between to the feminists ‘sisters’…

>>>>> There’s a huge difference between strong, independent, self-sufficient women and just plain spoiled brat bitches.

Yes, yes they DO! Thanks Ex-PH2.

Getting off my soap box now! I really DID try to hold back…lol
