Ben Brown; phony SEAL, phony veteran

| May 6, 2013

Someone sent us some stuff about this guy Ben Brown is in Washington state, who was mentioned by his grandfather, Don Tishman, about his organization, Rotary Assisting Veterans Education (RAVE) in a local newspaper, The Independent;

“After our country was attacked on September 11, 2001, these young men and women stepped forward to serve,” said Tishman. “They volunteered to put on a uniform knowing the dangers that come from military service.

“Because of their courage, we have gone nearly 11 years without another successful terrorist attack on American soil.”

When Tishman’s grandson Ben Brown returned home disabled after serving six years as a Navy Seal in Iraq and Afghanistan, Brown began counseling other veterans, talking with Tishman about the severe lack of resources available to help returnees. It is required that veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome be seen within 14 days, said Tishman. However, with funding slashed and an increasing numbers of veterans returning home, it can take up to a year before a veteran’s file is reviewed.

Yeah, well, someone didn’t think that Brown was a SEAL, so they sent off to the Navy Department for his records;

Ben Brown FOIA

And apparently, he wasn’t even in the Navy and they searched his records by Social Security Number. As far as we know, Don Tishman doesn’t know that his grandson is a fake, so don’t start calling RAVE. Apparently, Ben is in no way connected to them. As a backup, we checked with Don Shipley just to make sure Brown wasn’t a SEAL, so he couldn’t claim that his records were hidden from the public because he’s a Secret Squirrel.

But, word on the street is that Ben is getting a pension from the VA, so this would be a good one for our regular VA Office of the Inspector General to investigate.

Another poser/phony smoked out of the woodwork; if Ben Brown had told grandpa he was a machinist’s mate on the USS TIMBUKTU, nobody would have given it a second thought, but nope, he had to be a SEAL, now a busted SEAL…

Twist

Combat Historian, They always have to go with the “sexy” job. I just dont get it. They think that getting “wounded” on some secret mission is glorious.

NHSparky

Phonies get pensions from the VA. Legit veterans get blown off.

WTFG, Shinseki.

Green Thumb

Word.

2/17 Air Cav

Grandpa must be wondering where sonny boy was during the latter’s extended absence. Me, I’d start with local court records and, failing that, move on to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Scotty

We are spending way too much money on robots to clear IED’s in combat. Send these ass-clown POS wannabes instead. If they go boom boom. No more IED & no more Poser.

rb325th

Is it possible this POS served in another branch? I notice the FOIA request was sent directly to the Navy, not to St Louis. Obviously he is still not a SEAL, but perhaps he was in the Air force or Army?

Hondo

rb325th: I believe the letter above says the request was forwarded to the Navy by NPRC. That almost certainly means NPRC had no records under that SSN.

Combat Historian

Twist: I think serving as a combat historian in a war zone is the sexiest job there is, but nobody else would listen to me 😉

Robot Wrangler

@5 No keep the robots, my lovely lovely robots, you hears that my precious? The nasty Scottys wants to takes you aways….

I like having a job so lets have these turds doing something more fitting, like hand emptying the porta johns down range with a thimble.

JP

VA pension and didn’t even serve????

…in a time when so many real vets are trying to get the benefits they did earn, this enrages me.

Pineywoods NCO

Someone needs to get hold of this turd really quick before Grandpa pulls out the switches and belts on him.

rb325th

@7,Hondo I guess my question is was the FOIA specific to only Navy Service? Is that possible?

Green Thumb

Another BT washout or non-existence service.

The pukes are coming out od the woodwork in the Great NW.

Oddly enough though, people are starting to notice.

I has a couple of liberal, hippie kids in class and was running this crap buy them and oddly enough, they agreed for the pursuit and punishment.

They hate the war, DoD, military, the US etc., but for whatever reason they disapproved of this.

They called it wrong.

I about fell off my chair.

But hey, its a start.

Hondo

rb325th: the FOIA might have specified Navy. I don’t think that would make a difference, but it’s possible it could.

I believe the NPRC routinely searches all services for records if SSN is available – they seem to routinely return records/information regarding service from multiple branches on the same FOIA if the individual has service in multiple branches. Basing a search on SSN if available also has the advantage that it picks up service under multiple names. That’s much more common since the early 1970s due to the larger proportion of females in the armed serves starting about then.

However, I have to admit I don’t know definitively that NPRC routinely checks all services for records when they have a name/SSN combo.

@8 We had an historian, a Reserve major, assigned to 2nd COSCOM HQ during Desert Storm. I can’t remember the reason why we talked on the phone, but he had a high pitched voice and I made the mistake of calling him ma’am. He was offended, I did some tap dancing and finally smoothed it over. I met him later and he seemed nice enough, but I never did figure out what the heck he really did.

Combat Historian

#15: LMAO :))

Green Thumb

@15.

Nice.

Thunderstixx

I found a faker at work in Wal Mart the other day.
He was wearing a SEAL Trident hat, I started talking to him and asked him which Bud’s class he went to.
He had no idea what I was talking about.
I turned and just walked away before I blew a cork and got fired…
“I told him Have a nice day sir…”
Fo0r crying out loud, why do they have to pull that shit ???

2/17 Air Cav

@15. Yeah, I heard a reporter call Janet Napolitano “ma’am” once and, boy o’ boy, did he catch hell. Baddahbing!

A Proud Infidel

@Robot Wrangler, where would he be dumping it? I’m all for making him irrigate and fertilize a patch of grass with that, and then he’d have to keep it trimmed and groomed with a pair of fingernail clippers while doing the low crawl, and if he bawled about it, he’d be doing it in the sniper’s crawl!

So many *BLEEEP!* posers these days, and ammo’s expensive and hard to come by!!

Robot Wrangler

@20 I figured he could hold it in his biological storage tank.

You still at Shelby?

Ex-PH2

I say we take up a collection to send this blowhard to Shipley for a 10-day up close and personal session of real deal SEAL pre-BUD/s training. I’d give at least $1.00 to see how long he lasts before he starts crying.

Robot Wrangler

His first look at “the hair” would have him crying before any training started.

As my active duty career comes to a close, although hopefully not too soon in the future, I’m thinking of ways to still stay productive and just not fall into the realm of a contractor or GS civilian on Pendleton….and I think I have it.

If I were to offer the VA to review the claims of all veterans to ensure the benefits were actually earned and then only seek a fee of 10% of funds given to any frauds I outst, I think that would be a hell of a deal for the government. If I don’t find any frauds, I don’t get paid…otherwise, I only take 10% of monies already paid to the fraudulent claimee…..

Of course, I would need a staff, so I would be looking to hire some folks from here….

Just an idea mind you…..

Mattis for President in ’16….”Because F@CK YOU, that’s WHY!!”

CWO5USMC

Could you use an older Gunner on your staff?

Green Thumb

@24.

Just be a Postman or…my bad…a Postperson.

Fits good IN training.

Walk and deliver.

Understand that WO’s are a little different but the USMC has a “rifle first mentality”.

At least it did.

CWO5USMC

@25…Always my brother….and I’ve yet to see any of us that would qualify for the “younger” category…

Mattis for President in ’16….”Because F@CK YOU, that’s WHY!!”

CWO5USMC

@26….sometimes a “rifle first” mentality is exactly what’s needed….

However, I’m a Comms guy….so my amount of kicking in doors has only happened when the wife locks herself in the bathroom and can’t get out….

I like to think I can assimilate into any environment, but that’s probably just a bunch of BS…..worst case, I’ll try to be Press Secretary once Jim Mattis becomes President.
