Stolen Valor in Atlanta

| April 29, 2013

Our new buddy, Randy Travis at Fox5 in Atlanta sends us the trailer to his report tonight. Some folks in Atlanta have been telling us about this teaser;

It looks like there was a phony on that trailer that was hit by a train in Midland, TX.

Thanks, Randy, we’ll be watching.

SHANE LADNER SGT., ARMY Shane Ladner Sgt. Shane Ladner served 15 years in the Army as a military police officer and with the Georgia National Guard. I joined the Army in 1989 and was assigned to the Republic of Panama in December of that year. Operation Just Cause commenced soon after my arrival and I found myself in a war zone at age 18. I was proud to be where I was. My entire family has served in the military, both in the U.S. and in Europe before their immigration to this great nation. I was involved in a firefight in Panama City. My squad was on patrol and we were ambushed by Panamanian Defense Forces. We were under heavy fire and pinned down. I was engaging the enemy when I heard an explosion behind me. I felt an intense burning sensation on my back as well as excruciating pain in my abdomen. The first person I saw in the hospital was my older brother, Chuck, who was serving with the 5th Infantry Division and had gotten word of my injury. Chuck told me that it had been shrapnel from a grenade that had wounded me and had killed my squad leader. The shrapnel had entered my lower back and had exited my stomach. I was lucky that it did not hit any major organs and I would make a full recovery. When I recovered from my wounds I served throughout Central and South America, Cuba and Africa. I was assigned to JTF Bravo and loved my time there. Throughout my career I had the honor and privilege to serve with some of the finest people God has ever place on this Earth. I have never regretted one minute and miss it every day. When 9/11 occurred I was in the Georgia National Guard and working as a sheriff’s deputy in the Atlanta area. I had just returned home from a night shift when my wife called and told me to turn on the news. I did just in time to see the second plane hit the towers. I knew… Read more »

@EdUSMC, that guy spun one amazing story. so since I don’t live in the ATL, is this a matter of a bland career being spun into something else, or a never served?

Best thing that could happen to SV is for TV stations to make it a staple of their daily or weekly special reports. Feedback to the station is important b/c if they believe they have something that viewers look forward to seeing, they’ll stick with it for a ratings bump. Other stations will see that and try it themselves.

EdUSMCleg

@5… It is a case of a bland career being spun into something else. After all this went down, a buddy of mine who had served with the guy told me he didn’t understand why the guy was even there because he was never injured. Sooo, I told him to tip the local stations off and see if anyone was interested in looking into it. I had completely forgotten about it until I saw this. This is good news. 4 posers on the news in one night, about 5 over the last couple weeks (Tesla). We need to keep this up!

PintoNag

He and his wife have paid a high price for his stolen valor. Particularly his wife.

EdUSMCleg

Yup. Kind of shitty for her. However, I honestly don’t know what the reporter found out so I should refrain from accusations. I am assuming based on the trailer that he lied, though. If that is the case, then that sucks for his wife.

Any legal types in here: If this guy was on that float due to lying (fraud), will that affect his lawsuit he filed? I feel it should, but figure it won’t.

Widowmaker 502

Wow!! Not only a country star, but a reporter to boot!!! Gotta love Randy Travis!

OWB

Not a lawyer here, but I can see no reason that he should win a lawsuit for injuries he received as a result of committing fraud to be where he could be injured. But then, haven’t burglars won law suits for injuries they received in a home they were burglarizing?

@10.

Curious as to if his wife knew….?

Valkyrie

There is a lot of Stolen Valor going on in this part of Georgia . My daughter’s boyfriend was here this weekend and seen me reading this blog. He said he ran into a guy in Cartersville North of Atlanta, that said he had received 29 Purple Hearts. To much of this shit going on.

EdUSMCleg

Apparently, he drives around with a PH license plate while the Army has no record of a PH. He also got a free hunting trip by lying. Was a cop for a while. WOuld not have been on the float or whatever if he hadn’t lied. This guy could be in some deep shiz

Green Thumb

Victimless crime, huh?

USMCE8Ret

My favorite part is when he says he was called right away to be activated in support of whatever it was we thought was going on at the time. Funny how people like this are the ones that get called up right away and sent to extra special duty.

EdUSMCleg

lol Yup. This one will be great. I’m excited about the Texas one, as well, but this one should be really good. I wonder if the Police Department can take any action against him if he lied about his military career on his application or whatever.

EdUSMCleg

This one really pisses me off. It’s his story (that I pasted above) to get into the free hunting trip. He is further down the list. On the way down, you will see Mark Juarez a few spots before him. I served with Juarez when he was in 3/7, and that man is a true hero. To see his name in a list with an F’n poser really rubs me wrong.

Oh man this was good. He is still lying saying he was on a “top-secret drug interdiction operation” and was told to lie about his PH… More to come. This reporter did a great job.

Shane Ladner’ Statement issued by his Attorney, Kevin Glasheen,
Glasheen, Valles & Inderman, April 29, 2013

We represent Shane Ladner regarding injuries he sustained in the Midland train wreck that occurred in November, 2012 when a Union Pacific train struck a parade honoring injured veterans. Shane is a decorated veteran. He was wounded and received a Purple Heart during his service in Central America. Shane was stationed in Honduras at the time he was wounded during a grenade attack while on patrol doing drug interdiction tactics in Central America. Shane was instructed to say that he suffered his wounds during Operation Just Cause in Panama rather than when and where the events actually occurred because of the sensitive nature of the military’s involvement in drug interdiction in that region.

The discrepancy about when and where Shane’s injuries occurred has led to questions about the validity of Shane’s Purple Heart. This has been complicated by the fact that the Army records in St. Louis are apparently incomplete, and did not contain the DD 214 issued by Ft. Benning which does reflect the Purple Heart. We have requested Shane Ladner’s service records from Ft. Benning, Georgia where the Purple Heart award should be found in their base records. We have also requested Shane’s medical records from the hospital in Panama where he was treated following the grenade attack. We think it is irresponsible and reckless to publicly question Shane Ladner’s military records before the records from Fort Benning and the medical records from the Veteran’s Administration have been received. This is a malicious effort by an irresponsible journalist to get ratings by reaching a premature conclusion about Shane’s records and rushing a story to the public based on speculation and incomplete information. The law firm of Glasheen, Valles & Inderman will not have any further statements at this time until the complete records are received. Attached is the copy of the DD 214 that Shane received from Ft. Benning and that we are attempting to confirm is in Ft. Benning’s records.

Andy

guys…guys…IT WAS A SECRET MISSION. makes perfect sense. I want to know how he doctored that 214. the purple heart was right in the middle of his awards, not added to the bottom.

EdUSMCleg

He is just burying himself further. Why would Ft. Benning have different records for him than the actual place where all records are stored?

Green Thumb

Just saw the video.

Fuck this guy.

EdUSMCleg

Post link!!

EdUSMCleg

Thanks

Andy

@26, Ed it’s like those guys on death row that spend all that time fighting for a new DNA test because it will clear them. But it won’t. He’s caught in a lie, and he has to pile lies on top of lies.

J.E. Endicott

Its no mystery to me about the 2nd DD-214. When I was separated from a reserve call-up, one year in the Gulf, we were in a CROWDED separation center in San Diego. The PSs and YNs were so overwhelmed since a lot of us were on our 2nd and 3rd mobilization. I remember they just *asked* us what our awards were for the DD-214. Nobody said a combat award, but we had people saying 4-5 NAMs, 2-3 COMs, and the clerks were just typing it up without pause or question. I imagine that what happened here. If he got off a USAR call-up and was at a separation center, they probably just put down what he told them he had from this first (imaginary) tour. P.S.- Someone, if you’re able, pass this on to the news station. I’m slightly connected to this case so cant talk to the reporter directly.

EdUSMCleg

@31. Yup. And his wife continues to suffer. Sad case right there. She had no idea. Hope it was worth the f’n hunting trip. I hope the lawyer for whoever he is suing has a field day with him. In fact, it might not be a bad idea for some of us to contact them and help them out…

EdUSMCleg

@32. Will do. However, that DD214 the reporter held up looked so fake I’m not too worried about it. The fact they think records held at Ft Benning would be more legit than those in St Louis is laughable.

Rodger Young

and when Benning comes back with bupkis he’ll say it’s all part of the coverup of his ninja squirrel time in Hondo.

J.E. Endicott

I slowed down the news recording and saw the 2nd DD-214 award section. Total B.S. At a glance, besides the Purple Heart, was the Valor Device, the Meritorious Service Medal, and a slew of combat related unit awards. Definitely altered and doctored.

StillServing

Wow! It never stops. It just gets worse. I feel bad for his wife. He should go to jail. Oh, wait, it’s a victim less crime.

Green Thumb

What’s with the surge of Poser MP’s lately?

It that the new “hip” poser claim or what?

Geez.

disabled4warvet

Well now,
Being that I was the Force Protection Offier for JTF-B during the time that MR Shane Ladner stated he served there, I think I have some insight….. PHONEY!!!!!!

My deployment there is listed on my DD214.
My awards from “Living with the Iguanas” are listed there too.
I have my “Ski TACAN” tee-shirt and rode the donkeys up the hill to the Isle-La Tegria.

MPs did NOT go out on missions, we guarded the base camps for others to go out.
