Cuomo heads to Herkimer

| March 13, 2013

Herkimer

Some guy named Kurt R. Myers is suspected of killing four people and injuring two others with firearms in Herkimer, NY and apparently he’s still on the loose, some say he’s taking a taxicab. But the schools in the area are on lock down. Of course, as of a few minutes ago, Governor [Legacy] Cuomo is headed to the town to get in front of the cameras.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is heading to Herkimer to give a 2pm update to reporters there about this morning’s fatal shootings of four people in two Mohawk Valley communities.

He couldn’t go to Ilion (two miles away from Herkimer) to keep Remington from taking it’s 3,000 jobs out of the state, but he’ll be tripping over the locals to get in front of a camera in Herkimer.

And those guys in the photo at the top of the post, according to the caption here are law enforcement officers in Herkimer. They seem a little over-dressed for a single gun man on the loose to me.

Definitely don’t look like law enforcement to me.

B Woodman

The LEOs would be overdressed if the people were able defend to defend themselves with firearms, but. . .. oh, nevermind.
This is what defines the difference between a citizen and a serf.

NHSparky

Herkimer or Sadr City?

PintoNag

And the lines are blurring between our law enforcement and our military — at least as far as uniforms go.

Must want us to get used to seeing ‘troops’ on the streets?

NHSparky

I’m surprised there isn’t a race upstate between Cuomo and Schumer to see who can stick their face in front of a camera fastest.

FatCircles0311

You sure that’s New York? Looks like Afghanistan…

These bozo police dressing like the military need to stop. Nobody cares that you’re special tactics dynamic entry elite operations with a rifle. You’re not the military, so start dressing like what you are, a police officer.

Willing to bet taxpayers paid for all over that priced shit too because you need a kevlar helmet, leg holsters, and military weapons in order to police in America. The violent crime rate has just increased so much it’s a war zone out there

crucible

Next, they’ll be piling out of those 2700 MRAP’s too……

Common Sense

The militarization of the police that’s been going on is a bad, bad thing and negates the original purpose of not being allowed to have our military used against us within the US.

What difference does it make whether the fully kitted out man in the MRAP with the automatic weapon is a soldier or a cop?

PintoNag

@8 Precisely.

Three Little Things to Think About:

1. GOV will say “this is why the new NY laws were put into place” or “this is what we are trying to prevent” or “NYS has the toughest gun laws in the country” or “blah, blah, blah, blah … blah, blah, blah, blah … BLAH”.

2. Kurt Meters will be dead by the end of the day … as he should be based on all the current circumstances.

3. No law can prevent a criminal from acting on his plan … NY GOV laws have put NYer’s in harms way. Why wait till’ a criminal like this has entered your house … with a proper weapon he can be nuetralized at 100 yards safely!

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

DHS paid for all of it!

Grants program … don’t get me started!

Old Tanker

How many people will the Cuomo caravan kill while racing to the scene??? Something tells me the ambulance chasing lawyers better get the hell out of the way so that Cuomo doesn’t run them over….

Joe

“Another Feel Good Story”…..oh, maybe not.

PintoNag

HEY EVERYBODY!! JOE’S SHITTING ON THE CARPET AGAIN!!

NHSparky

Where’d I leave that rolled up newspaper???

2/17 Air Cav

Yes, Joe, from the perspective of the gun grabbers, it’s a wonderful story. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that Cuomo’s reaction to the news of the shootings was “Great!I need to get in front of this. We rollin 5 minutes.” For the rest of us, we wish it had been our kind of feel-good story, not yours and your ilk, and that one of the victims had been armed and able to meet the threat of deadly force with deadly force.

NHSparky

Joe–no offense, but get used to hearing a lot more of these kind of stories in places like MD, NY, and yes, your lovely vaunted rock-festooned CO, now that the government has done their damndest to disarm the populations in those states.

I’ll leave it to your befuddled imagination, such as it is, to guess why.

Ex-PH2

A – Even the Chicago cops don’t dress like that, and likely won’t. Neither do the state police or the county mounties, or the local po-po. I think using ‘overdressed’ is a polite way of saying ‘they look dumber than boobs on a Honda’.

B – Maybe Myers was looking for Cuomo, trying to draw him out into the open. 😉

C – Good reason to stay away from New York. (No offense meant, Master Chief.)

LIRight

Have we heard what type of weapon was used?

Flagwaver

They’ll probably say it was a scary black assault rifle with one of those detachable clip thingies that holds 100 bullets and can shoot down a train or make a plane explode on the tracks!

But, with most crimes of this sort, probably a semi-automatic handgun. 9mm, if not a smaller caliber.

2/17 Air Cav

Imagine if he used a shotgun? Joe ‘The Moron’ Biden would have another oopsie moment.

NHSparky

Maybe it was one of those .50 cal rounds that cooks deer when it hits them. The assclown that made that brilliant remark was from NY, wasn’t she?

Oh, and if we’re going to make obscure song references in our threads today (see the Zappa references elsewhere,) then:

King Missile–Detachable Penis

I woke up this morning with a bad hangover
And my penis was missing again.
This happens all the time.
It’s detachable.

A_Proud_Infidel

Cuomo rushes in front of news cameras like spring breakers rushing to wet t-shirt contests on the beach!!

John

The Utica Observer-Dispatch has reported an unknown long rifle was used in the shootings.

As reported in the second hyperlinked news story from above.

LIRight

#23 A_Proud_Infidel

Like Father Like Son.

streetsweeper

Uh yep! Leave it to Joe to return and crap on the livingroom floor. Too bad we’re not sitting face to face in a bar in Cheyenne, J-Hole, Laramie or Rock Springs, Joe. I’d take great pleasure in kicking that chair your carcass is sitting in, right out from under you. Maybe Legacy figures Remington is bluffing about leaving NY State. I’d be real surprised if they did.

Ex-PH2

@24 – Unknown long rifle: would that be a Buntline Special?

RunPatRun

I read shotgun in a different story.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Father to rifle, “bad rifle. Very bad bad rifle. You should know better. Go to your locker.”

Mother to father, “honey … IT is only a rifle, IT does not know any better.”

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Bullshit. He clearly was a criminal who committed a crime. There IS always a motive. OK Gov, his neighbors and town folk will tell us what happened.

KMRIA

2/17 Air Cav

“There’s no apparent motive to the best of our knowledge at this time to provoke these attacks.” Who wrote that, six lawyers? No APPARENT…TO THE BEST…AT THIS TIME. Couldn’t thet wedge one more qualifier in that ridiculous statement? How about this:” The investigation is just begun. People want to know why this happened. We don’t know. When we learn that, and more about the shooter, we’ll let you know.”

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Bad shot gun. Very bad bad shot gun. You should know better.

2/17 Air Cav

Evil doesn’t need a motive. Evil needs only targets.

OWB

Sure hope the shots weren’t fired from a balcony.

DaveO

Remington employees in Ilion, NY, can, at best, only provide 3,000 votes, give or take an exponent – and $7.5 million to the Cuomo 4 POTUS campaign.

The viewers of Cuomo’s newscasts can (and in make Dem strongholds DO) vote several times for Cuomo and gives hundreds of millions of dollars to him.

It’s all a matter of priorities, and O’Malley has been street cred when it comes to crime.

Twist

Joe is just mad that the people in the “feel good” stories aren’t victims so he could stand on their bodies to further his anti gun agenda.

fm2176

Cops must feel super special when they don all that equipment and get to walk around in public. I’ll even go so far as to say that at least a few (though not all, I realize that some cops feel stupid dressed like GI Joe but have to follow department SOP) are little different than the posers regularly featured here–they get kitted up in “full battle rattle” and look like overweight versions of Soldiers patrolling Afghanistan, later getting to brag about their day at the local bar.

It’s funny. I’m an 11B and, outside of actual combat operations, I avoid putting on any type of body armor or helmet when I can help it. The stuff’s heavy, hot, and just plain cumbersome (though it’s improved a lot over the years). Police seem happy to throw on external body armor (when the concealable vests most wear can stop up to 12 ga or .44 Mag) and Kevlar helmets (which really just protect the head from blows and fragments–they aren’t meant to stop bullets head on) while carrying the “cool-guy” rifles that I guess would otherwise rot away in the armory or car trunks.

You don’t see a whole lot of paramilitary cops in the south. The fatter ones would probably be heat casualties the first time they played dress up and did a patrol.

Scubasteve

They’re wearing Daps too. So over-armored, anyone who’s a halfway decent shot can take them out in a soft spot or with overwhelming firepower before they waddle halfway across the street.
The cop in the front is checking his tacti-cool reflection in the window, and the one behind him is huffing and puffing to keep up.

John

Lol I argue with my mom that the second amendment didn’t give me the right to hunt deer but the right to defend myself against hitler wannabes like our soda banning mayor and our gun grabbing govener that specifically dosnt want black or brown people to own guns cause in the policemans words from the captains down calls them savages and gangsters . I don’t know what they would do If they lost there rights again maybe they like run tin tin biteing there asses and firehouses knocking down there grandparents as for me ill fight for my rights I would rather die than be a slave to a big corporation , or the railroad and coal barons of old . Anytime a cooperation gets big they try and succeed to pas laws that make them more powerful and richer and it’s way easier to control a population of people with bow and arrows then firearms . One day soon some foreign country might be dropping arms in our country so we can take down a dictator . Ps our mayor wants to pass a law extending his terms of office hmmm could the president extend his terms next

NHSparky

I’m hearing Slo Joe’s words echoing in my ears, “Buy a shotgun…buy a shotgun.”
