Peyton Manning & the troops
I know TSO won’t post this, since he refers to Peyton Manning, the Denver Bronco’s Quarterback as “Satan” Manning. Regardless, here’s the video of Manning with the troops on his USO tour;
Manning kept a detailed journal of his travels. When members of the military staff read some of his entries as the trip was nearing its conclusion, they encouraged Manning to share them publicly because they felt it would be good for troop morale.
You can read the edited journal here.
Category: Support the troops
As a Colts fan I approve of this message. Each Colts player gets a certain number of game tickets that they can give away. When Peyton Manning as well as Dallas Clark were still Colts they used to give theirs to the Military. Now Pat McAfee does.
True class act he is! I miss him here in Indy
I just read the entire journal.
With tears in my, I could not hlep but noticed he knew the name of every warrior he spent time with and documented their names in his journal.
His observations were sincerely humble, as he knew he was in the company of the greatest men and women that our country has to offer.
The most importnat quote comes early in the journal: “If I ever whine or complain about anything ever again, then shame on me after what I witnessed today.”
Great read, written by a great American Patriot!
And yet he still can’t play in cold weather, gaaaadddd dammit.
And I say that as a lifelong Broncos fan. But good on him for his support.
MCPO: I saw the “money quote”, too.
I’d always heard Peyton Manning was one of “the good guys”. The man’s definitely seems to have his head screwed on straight.
I feel TSO’s pain, but Seyton Manning is a good dude outside of football.
NHSparky: seems to me he did fairly well this year – well enough for his team win until something called the “Mile High Miracle” happened. (smile)
@5, He donates a lot of money to a hospital in Indianapolis. It is named “The Peyton Manning’s Childrens Hospital at St. Vincent”.
Hondo, in the words of South Park’s Mister Garrison:
“YOU GO TO HELL!! YOU GO TO HELL AND YOU DIE!!!”
Then again, I’ve still got Bucky Elway and “The Drive.”
I saw him on Saturday Night Live and thought a guy who could make fun of himself like that had to be okay, after reading the journal it’s clear he is more than okay. He is indeed a good guy.
Nice to see a guy with a lot of money who is not a complete turd, but is instead a good, humble guy.
NHSparky: what I was saying is don’t blame Manning’s OT interception for that loss. Denver’s secondary takes care of business during the game’s last 45 seconds with the Broncos up by 7, the game ends in regulation and he never throws it – and the Broncos play again the next week.
I am in the TSO camp…I cannot acknowledge anything that a Bronco players do that is good.
‘Scuse me but as I understand it, the Colts released Manning. So, what’s the beef? I don’t get it. Don’t get me wrong, I despise the Colts and wish them nothing good but, like the rest of the football-loving nation, I admire Manning for his leadership and in-the-clutch performances. The effort for the troops was cool and there is no doubt that he benefitted it as much as the troops did.
@10, From what I hear is that he is very humble. It is not unusual to be walking in downtown Indy and hear a “hi, how you doing” and look over and it is Manning. I’ve also heard from resteraunt workers on how he would order a $70 meal and leave a $100 tip.
My husband got us season tickets – Club level – thinking that we would have a full season of Timmy Tebow excitement. A lot of people gave theirs up because of Tebow so we didn’t have to site on the waiting list for 10 years.
Imagine our surprise when he was traded and we got Manning instead. We were disappointed to see Tebow go, we thought he’d do well with Manning’s guidance, but my husband and boys were sure excited to see Manning play.
My husband had planned on selling some of the tickets but we all took turns and went to every game.
I’m not so sure that will happen this year. We’ve been spending money preparing for the zombie apocalypse and may want to recoup some of that.
“Well, the big deal is she caught it while carrying an M-16 rifle on her back. I am not sure even Marvin Harrison or Reggie Wayne could have done that.”
That has to be my favorite.
[…] John Lilyea has a great link to him going on a USO tour. I won’t link the resultant link because it has an autoplay thing, I hate those. […]
Denver’s secondary takes care of business during the game’s last 45 seconds
Don’t get me started. I’ve seen the Lakewood HS defensive secondary play better pass coverage than the Broncos did that game. I should know, I went to Lakewood (briefly) and their football team sucked ass.
Still doesn’t take away from the fact that Bucky did an awesome thing bringing a class act like Manning to Denver.
@18, He still lives in Indy, so we get to “share” him.
Kinda ironic that I’m replying to post number 18 in a Peyton Manning topic.
Twist: Why do some (most? Just TSO?) Colts fans dislike Manning?
2/17 Air Cav: if I recall correctly, TSO is a Patriots “homer” who now lives in the Indy area. I think his pro-Patriots proclivity is why he’s not a big fan of Manning.
I’d guess he’s probably not a big Flacco fan right now, either. (smile)
2/17 Air Cav, I don’t think very many Colts fans dislike Manning. People in Indiana believe that if Peyton died today he would walk up to God and say “excuse me sir the people in Indiana would like you to get out of my seat”. 🙂
My favorite SNL skit of all time. I have the full version on my computer but can’t post it here so here is the shortened Youtube version.
Can’t go to “war” without glow belts, Gents!
What you don’t see is how he fed on the souls of puppies right before this video.
Just when I learn an efficient verbalization for Peyton, you prove to me that I should re-think decades worth of disdain for him. You are a cruel cruel man. Dammit Jonn, I can’t hate him anymore.
I am a diehard Packer fan since before God himself ordained Vince Lombardi as the only true emperor of the football arena and I have nothing but respect for Peyton Manning. I have known for a long time that he is a very good guy and a true patriot… This only proves it to me and the rest of the world.
@25. I get it. He’s talented, witty, a star, rich, famous, generous, kindly, athletic and relatively young. What’s to like about the guy?
Here you go TSO

@29. Hahahahahahah. That reminds me. In my litany of things for Manning, I need to add this: And he’s not gay!
