Oregon gun grabbers go full ‘tard

| February 23, 2013

Oregonians are facing the stupidest uphill fight of all states so far. This is from Oregon Firearms Federation on the bill that Oregonians were promised they wouldn’t have to deal with a scant few days ago;

HB 3200 not only bans most modern guns and magazines, it allows warrantless searches of your home, requires background checks and registration for a firearm you already own and as-of-yet undefined storage requirements. We say “a firearm” because even if you comply with the restrictions in this bill you may still only own one [assault weapon].

And if you think they know what they’re talking about, well;

(C) Semiautomatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and has one of more of the following:
(i) Any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand;
(ii) A folding, telescoping or thumbhole stock;
(iii) A shroud attached to the barrel, or that partially or completely encircles the barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel; or
(iv) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at any location outside of the pistol grip;

I’ve never seen a thumbhole stock on a pistol, or a folding/telescoping stock, for that matter.

The prospective law also mandates that so-called large capacity magazines have to be registered, too. You can only own three for the ONE scary-looking black rifle that they allow you to own. In order to own a scary-looking black rifle, you must purchase it before the law passes, and then you take it and your three magazines to the police and after you pay them to do a background check and they say you are allowed to own it, you have to allow them to check your home to make sure you store properly, it doesn’t mention a warrant, so you arrive at your own conclusions.

Oh, yeah, and because a state of emergency exists in Oregon because of these scary-looking black rifles being in the hands of law-abiding citizens, it takes effect on the day that it passes.

I think that the list of “features” is there to encompass all the AR and AK style pistols that are being sold, for example: The Drako, which is an AK variant. I believe the first sentence ensnares all semi-auto pistols, including the AR and AK variants, so I think they are being redundant.

Doc Bailey

Barrel shrouds… So let me get this straight, any gun that has a safety feature to prevent you from getting burned is now outlawed? What a bunch of retards.

I can’t even imagine the stupidity that went into writing this bill

Old Trooper

@2: Whoever said leftists were smart, Doc?

Swampfox

As my wife would say, “What a bunch of F’idiots”.

Why do we still allow THEM to frame this argument?? They are attempting to deny us rights that are inalienable. They were our rights before the drafting of the Constitution, and the only reason those first 10 amendments were added was because our forefathers knew that those were the rights most likely to be abused by governments looking to abuse their power – power by the way which was LENT to them by us.

Isnala

Um is that a direct cut and paste? Because most if not all AK and AR variants are ‘rifles’ NOT pistols. Now the Thompson and MP-5 which both fire pistol rounds may qualify. Not that I want some libertards to read this and change the bill, but one of the very few things I have learned about the law ( besides get a lawyer) is that words matters and definition of words matter. A rifle is not a pistol and pistols are not rifles, so if if one of our more legal trained brothers or sisters could double check this sanity, it appears to me like this portion of the bill is less limiting then you would think. Granted if I wanted a MP-5 or FN-P90 for home protection I should be able to have one.

Listen to the words of this statement. This is a true patriot. But you will never see this on the MSM because it does not conform to THEIR dominant paradigm.

This is what true, responsible citizens do.

Ex-PH2

A pistol with a telescoping or folding stock? A pistol?

Does this maroon (Ginny Burdick) know what a pistol is?

A telescoping stock? I went looking for an real-world reference to telescoping stock. It appears that there actually is no such thing. Lefislation this specific can become completely ineffective.

Is it just me, or do these people watch too many movies?

Stacy0311

All of the states passing laws that require people to pay for their own background checks are doing it for a very simple reason: they’re going to need a boatload of money to defend against the lawsuits that they’re going to get slammed with. And eventually lose. Hopefully when they do lose, they’ll have to refund all of that money too. WE need to stop this shit. Remember these idiots at the next election

The Al

@6- yes, that is the way the bill is worded

Twist

The only pistol I have ever owned that had a telescoping or folding stock was my Transformer Megatron toy when I was a kid.

JBS

Will the actual police really be the ones checking your home for storage compliance? Don’t they have enough to do by arriving at an emergency in 10-45 minutes after you call them? Maybe they will have to hire more people (Super Secret Police/SS) thereby raising taxes.

We may get to see, this year, whether The Constitution is worth anything at all. We may get to see how many cops are willing to betray

their country and become nothing more than jackbooted thugs deserving a bullet in the spine. Conversely, we may get to see with pride how

many Patriot cops we have. We may get to see whether the American People are willing to kill and die for The Constitution, or whether they

will lie down like sheep.

These are perilous times.

????? ????

Mannie

Hmmm. Board doesn’t like Greek. That last line should read MOLON LABE.

Murdoc

Lets remember that the bulk of the sheriffs in most of the counties were the first to voice their opinion on these bans. Lets hope of this asinine “law” gets crushed before goes anywhere.

Nik

I live in Oregon and ya’ll just don’t know what it’s like here in the Wild West. Gunfights in every saloon, stand-offs in the street at high noon. It’s mayhem.

Ok…in all seriousness, the key to understanding Oregonian politics comes down to one word…Portland. Portland is trying desperately to be Frisco North. The average citizen of the People’s Republik of Portland is somewhere left of the Weather Underground. Most Oregonians are reasonable folks, but the inhabitants of Portland (and it’s suburbs), Eugene, Medford…those folks are full on fucktarded. Sadly, that’s a huge chunk of the population of Oregon and they’re very activist so they have a great deal of influence. I’d really rather see the people in Eugene and Medford move up to Portland, then wall the place off. They can be their own little city-state and be all fucktarded together.

Ex-PH2

@16 – Seriously? Further to the left than the Weather Underground?

Hey, I just realized I unconsciously coined a new word:

“Leftislation” — legislation proposed by people who want us to not have the right to have guns; other kinds of legislation can also fit the ‘leftislation’ category, e.g., free birth control (I had to pay for mine), force purchase of health care, etc.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

@ 17 … coin that word today … if not Chris Matthews will and he will be using it on Monday.

Wait … you just did .. never mind!

Ex-PH2

Sometimes, I feel like I’m having a flashback to the 1960s and 1970s, when the Weather Underground split off from the SDS and started building bombs.

What’s next? Is Bernadette Dorne going to hold up an armored cash car?

Nik

@17
Ok, I might have engaged in a slight exaggeration.

But not by much.

Trent

Nik is right about Portland and that just happens to Ginny Burdicks home. She has been trying to rid Oregon of that pesky Second Amendment since she’s been in the Oregon legislature. As it stands right now, your posting is more reporting on this story than any of the major news outlets in Oregon has done since this broke.

Reaperman

@8 Maybe they figure if they ban folding stocks, manufacturers will switch to a telescoping design. So far I’ve only seen telescoping stocks on Nerf-branded “weaponry.”

Scalpel Shepherd

I just read yesterday in the local newspaper that Oregon was giving up on all gun grabbing bills, because they wouldn’t be able to pass them.

Ex-PH2

You all know what a tidal wave is, right? The Cascadia fault hasn’t slipped in a while. It’s due for a big one. The last tsunami-generating quake off the NW left coast was in the 1700s and they occur about every 300 years, so it’s due.

Maybe if it happens, the gun-fraidies will be swept out to sea in their tsunami pods, and the rest of Oregon and Washington can get on with more important things.

Just sayin’….

Lamachus

As Nik points out, most of the Oregon anti-second amendment types live in big cities west of the Cascades. Every county east of the Cascades said no thank you to Obama in the 2012 election. (As did the counties in the southwestern part of the state.)

I was born and raised in Eugene. Can’t believe I made it out of there half-way sane.

FatCircles0311

Unconstitutional.

Like I said in the other thread, we are in for some interesting times. I’m scared to think of what this place will be 20 years from now. Will I be locked up for my beliefs? Will the 2A only be a memory? Will this country even exsist?

and on PH2’s comment about free birth control for people who can’t afford it, once they take poor peoples gaurdianships away for being “finacially incompitent” and locked away in group homes they won’t be alowed to have sex for the rest of their lives anyway, as that is fraternization. The males and females will live in seperate homes like they do today. See? Problem solved.

Dave Ki

Doc Bailey:Will you wouldn’t want that barrel shroud to somehow
flip up?and put your eye or something.

NHSparky

Fat–since when has anything being unconstitutional been a barrier to the liberal agenda?

Dave Ki

Hell I’m in Linn,wonder how our sheriff responds to this?Or if there’s a question of money involved,this is going to be very interesting if this passes,very interesting.Fact is always did want to move to Texas.

A Proud Infidel

Another fine example of how libtards can’t quit f**king things up no matter where they go. They’ve made California FUBAR, so now they’ve migrated and infected places like Portland, Seattle, Boulder,…. and they can’t quit pushing their failed ways on others once they’ve infested!

That does it, thus begins my crusade: LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BE HUMANE, HAVE YOUR LOCAL LIBERALS SPAYED OR NEUTERED!!!

DaveO

The purpose of the law is not to pass or not, but to get the idea of warrantless searches, background checks and registrations, insurance and such out there in the public’s mind for folks to think about.

If folks believe increased losses in civil liberties are okay for guns, they will agree by logical extension to increased losses in civil liberties across the board.

We’ve already seen how the 1st Amendment has been undermined with skewed concepts and halluncinogenic jurisprudence. The 2d Amendment and the others are next.

jonp

I’m kinda of wondering here that if they pass a law that would have you violate your 4th Constitutional Right against unlawful search and seizure in order to practice another Constitutional Right (2cd) how it could pass a court challenge since if you are forced to tell police you have a firearm that would let them violate the 4th and 2cd it would also violate your 5th. Am I being clear here? I find this proposed law violating 3 Amendments.

NHSparky

But the idea might well be that while the suits wind their way through the courts, enough of these weapons will be confiscated and destroyed before the government gets bitchslapped that it won’t matter afterwards.

After all, both oligarch and tyrant mistrust the people, and therefore deprive them of their arms.

Roger in Republic

As bad as Washington state is getting, I’m sure glad I don’t live in Oregon. My semi-auto MAC-10 would be outlawed there. While it does not have a wire stock it does have a fake suppressor and will accept 10 to 50 round mags. The fact that you can’t hit a barn with the thing and it is only good for historical display means nothing to the low information legislators. It’s historical lack of accuracy is the reason it was never used by any of the worlds military units. the Israeli forces tried it and found it so useless they retained their Uzis. It sure does look scary though.

Anonymous

No. There is no “compromise” with these libtards. For all that we law abiding gun owners are supposed to give up, the libtards give up / we get nothing in return. Where’s the compromise?

Instead, NO to all future (and possibly present) gun control unConstitutional anti-2A. As much protesting as the pro 2A side does, the libtards do what libtards do. Much as the ObaomaoCare was passed in spite of vast protest against it.
So, even if these anti2A laws are passed, say NO, I.WILL.NOT.OBEY.

After all, isn’t this how our Republic was started in the first place??

NHSparky

Anon–as I’ve seen here and elsewhere, “Our ancestors would have started shooting by now.”

Meh, the Board doesn’t like Greek. That last line reads Molon Labe.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

OK … They can write and pass any law that they want … but it does not make it Constitutional …

“not only bans most modern guns and magazines, it allows warrantless searches of your home”

No one gets into my home unless they have a key provided by me or a warrant signed by a judge … period.

2/17 Air Cav

Oregon. Heard of it. Named a trail after it or something.Not to be confused with oregano. Oregano is useful.
