Who’s really doing two things at once?

| September 25, 2008

As COB6 wrote yesterday, John McCain stepped up in the midst of the recent financial problems and tried to co-operate with his Democrat challenger Barack Obama to put aside politics for a moment and work on solving the real world issues at hand. Of course, Barack Obama refused to cross party lines for the good of the country, as expected. The Washington Times quotes;

“It is going to be part of the president’s job to deal with more than one thing at once,” Mr. Obama told reporters in Florida. “If it turns out that we need to be in Washington, we’ve both got big planes – we’ve painted our slogans on the side of them – they can get us from Washington, D.C., to Mississippi fairly quickly.”

Coming from just about anyone else, that might make sense, but we’re talking about Barack Obama here. Obama has missed 46% of his votes according to the Kansas City Infoline;

Not surprisingly, Obama is the second-sparsest voter outside of Sen. Tim Johnson, D- S.D., who missed time to recover from a brain hemorrhage. Obama has missed 46 percent of votes since January 2007.

Obama’s last trek to the Capitol came July 9, when he voted in favor of amendments to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 to provide immunity to telecoms involved in wiretapping. The vote enraged many of the party’s base.

Last Year, CNN and the Clinton campaign busted on Obama for missing 75% of his votes in the Senate months before the primary season even began. And what about the votes he missed in 2005 and 2006? So he really isn’t able to do two things at once…he can’t even campaign and do the job he’s paid to do at the same time.

But, then Obama doesn’t need to be in town to get all of the information he needs to make an informed decision on any issue. In a moment of clarity, the New York Times discovered that as a State Senator, Obama voted “present” 130 times. MSNBC also discovered that Barack Obama has voted almost 100% with the Democrat Party since going to the US Senate in 2005;

Obama’s roll call votes in 2005, 2006 and 2007 have been analyzed by the non-partisan journal Congressional Quarterly which found him to be a Democratic Party loyalist.

CQ didn’t use every single roll call vote to make this determination, instead it analyzed votes where a majority of Democratic senators opposed a majority of Republican senators.

In 2007, Obama voted with his fellow Democrats 97 percent of the time. In 2006, his score was 96, and in 2005, he again netted a 97 percent rating.

I guess he doesn’t need to understand the intricacies of an issue when he either votes present or just asks the other Democrats how they’re voting before he pushes the button.

John McCain has suggested a few days respite from campaigning to fix the nations problems, but Barack Obama, who only knows how to campaign, not fix problems, wants to continue campaigning. So who’s really capable of doing two things at once. Who’s able to prioritize a schedule? My guess is that Obama has been rehearsing for Friday night and he’s afraid that switching gears to help the country will throw him off and turn him into a stumbling, bumbling spaz. And that “I haven’t slept in 48 hours” excuse won’t fly next time.
