The internet saw what you did

| November 20, 2012

I guess our douchebag friend, Lindsey Stone, discovered the reach of our little blog last night. My Facebook Wall is jam-packed with the image of her. I guess her employer is well aware of the type of person she is and her antics on the company’s dime;

Yeah, 3500 comments ought to get the point across. But the internet isn’t flawless. Please refrain from posting addresses and phone numbers. As we’ve seen in the past, sometimes the person who we target doesn’t live where the internet says they live and phone numbers change.

I’ve learned that everyone eventually gets their just desserts, so just be patient.

Mostmost excellent! You are right, of course, about posting numbers and aDdresses! Such a classless, clueless drone works for an independent care company??!! As in, caring for our elderly and infirm? Oh, Gawd, those poor people! Prehaps this should happen; http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?client=mv-google&layout=mobile&utcoffset=-300&v=jjjObYp-P-E&oref=http%3A%2F%2Fm.youtube.com%2F&has_verified=1. Lol sorry if the post violates our terms, but it’s worth it!

NHSparky

Sadly, there are too many people like little Lindsey there whose feelings are similar to her “joke” (as some might try to paint her blatant disrespect) lurking just beneath the surface.

See kids, this is why we have freedom of speech–it makes it a LOT easier to expose the idiots.

Let’s see if our little princess here gets a teachable moment from this.

Hondo

Don’t hold your breath, NHSparky. I’m guessing she’ll see it as persecution.

After all, she’s “precious and special”. She’s been told that all her life by folks worried about her “self esteem” getting damaged. Never mind the fact that she’s an idiot and a self-professed douchebag.

“Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.”

Lucky

Karma is a bitch! She will get hers, eventually

NHSparky

Yeah, prob’ly not, Hondo. As Frankie Goes To Worcester said in the other thread (after he asked us to take out our tampons), “What’s the worst thing you ever did?”

Not even close to that, certainly not disrespectful or destructive, but because of it my shot at elected office is probably shot. Such things will happen on Westpac. Oh well, at least I didn’t post it on FB.

But you’re spot-on. This is the kind of shit that goes on when the little cherubs who’ve been told that they’re “special” when grow up. Rephrase: when they reach adulthood. Growing up infers there was any maturity involved.

marinewm86

What bothered me most about her picture was her giving the finger. It is sad that she doesn’t understand that there places like Arlington and the Arizona Memorial are scared ground for all of us who have served. No matter what branch of the service you served when we enter Arlington you can not help but feel an overwhelming sense of love, loss and pride.

I hope that this lesson is well served on her but I am afraid it won’t matter.

ex af

Chicago Trib had an article about working with millenials. Seems the interesting comment was one was upset that they were abuse. Yelled at? No. Profanity? No. Well, what? My boss told me I was wrong and was really stern. Now you know how to make a Marine just laugh until he cries….

streetsweeper

Funny isn’t it, how a “harmless prank” can come right back around and bite you on hard on your ass. I bet that this “young lady” in question is gonna be busier than a cat covering turds in a litter box.

NSOM

For those so interested the company which sponsored this escapade of Lindsey Stone (in the pic) and Jamie Schuh (the photographer) can be found on twitter at https://twitter.com/lifecapecod

Let them know what you should be trending on twitter.

The Dead Man

#8 The new Graver here where I work keeps whining to the owner that he’s being subject to a witch hunt. Dumb ass doesn’t realize that I know the tech here better than he does and I back-check everything seeing as how… well, I work grave shift security. He’s bringing it on himself, but he’s convinced it’s all our fault. Then again, he’s got 7-8 Empty suit stickers on his car, tried to talk politics with me until I walked all over him and couldn’t find his ass with both hands. Might not be his age, he might just be that stupid.

I’m probably going to string him up with a mouse cord if he gets another virus on one of our computers though. I don’t get paid enough to sit in this craptastic office to fix his mistakes.

Islandofmisfittoys

This is great, what comes to mind is the latest Damned Few cartoon with the commentary on they everyone gets a trophy and is special mindset and lack of respect.

Twist

@7, Unfortunatly disrespect on our hallowed grounds is nothing new. The only thing new is social media that puts asshatery out there for all to see.

I remember back in the 90s going to the Arizona memorial. While out there a group of Japanese tourists where laghing and taking pictures of themselves in front of the wall that has the names of the dead inscribed in it. My buddies had to keep me from throwing them overboard. After we got back to land we where all taken into a theatre where they showed clips from the rest of WW 2. The last shot was the mushroom cloud rising. Needless to say the tourists weren’t laughing anymore.

DefendUSA

Well, I for one, love that I can call the asshattery out…It makes me feel better.

I just visited the LIFE website and got a kick out of one particular item within the Profile of LIFE Residents. The item is that residents have “Appropriate behavior in unsupervised settings.” The obvious irony renders unnecessary any additional comment from me.

SCT421

This may have been a joke but There is a time and place, this for sure was not it.. It would have been less noticed without the middle finger, but that’s just blatantly disrespecting every vet that has ever died serving their country even if she didn’t mean it that way, it still is..

LebbenB

Karma’s a bitch and so is she. For someone who has never known a hard day in her life to take a picture like that in front of the Tomb of the Unknowns is tantamount to sacrilige.

NR Pax

So why is she an employee and not a former employee?

doctorrich

… and the Twitter account is gone now.

Some of us learned early on that if you want to be cynical and sarcastic, it does have a place in our culture. Stephen Colbert is one who comes to mind. Eddie Murphy is another.

But its place and its usage are not appropriate in this kind of setting. Unfortunately, with the vulgarity and crudeness that are so common in every part of social media, including entertainment, no one seems to make the point that YOU DON’T DO THINGS LIKE THIS IN PLACES LIKE THIS.

This isn’t about adult children never being told they’re “special”. It’s about 30-year-old adults not knowing or caring about the difference between what is appropriate and what is not, or what the consequences are when you post this kind of malicious crap on a social network like Facebook.

The Lifecapecod twitter spot seems to be gone. I can say that if I had a relative living in assisted care at that place, I’d be inclined to move him or her elsewhere. I would have a very long talk with the director, making it clear that if an employee acts like this on a company-sponsored trip with the residents, then I have real concerns about what she says and does at work and even more important, out with her friends, about her job.

And if she complains that she’s being ‘persecuted”, well, frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.

NHSparky

What they call “persecution” we call “consequences for one’s actions.”

Funny how that failed to bridge the generation gap.

Twist

Oh it bridged the generation gap, Sparky. The thing is that some of us embraced it while others seem to ignore it. I’ve done dumb crap in my life but took my licks like a man, learned from it, and moved on. It seems that Lindsey has yet to figure that one out.

Tacticus

I read about this woman on several sites and there are actually people coming to her defense, saying that it was all just a harmless joke and that she is unfairly being dumped on. The problem I have is: Why don’t she just come out and apologize publicly with due contrition? That would go a long way to soothing those of us who are taking this personally. Also, it is not a harmless prank. When only 3% of us have stepped up to defend this country and when most of the country doesn’t even really take the time out of their day to remember that we have men and women fighting and dying for them, these “pranks” become MUCH more than harmless. We have people protesting military funerals with signs saying that they are glad that the soldier died her “prank” elevated into blatant disrespect. I don’t have a problem if someone is against the war, but don’t blame the individual soldiers. Most of us enlisted because we had no other prospects for a career and just want to provide for our families. I have friends buried at Arlington and have had to comfort their wives and look out for their children so seeing that photo really set me off. As Lindsey found out, the 1st Amendment works both ways. She has every right to desicrate the memory of those who secure her right to do stupid stuff but that also gives the rest of us the right to show our displeasure. The company she works for should make public whatever her punishment is going to be so it doesn’t look like a whitewash.

2-17 Air Cav

I have a tendency to go soft from time to time. In this case, the photo precludes that from happening in this case. Would that I could write out the name of every service member KIA since the Spanish American War. Would that I could have her attend (at a distance) every military funeral from now until some future date. Would that I could instill in her some common decency and respect for thaose whose lives were lost protecting the freedom she has abused.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

The Internet sure did!

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

The two employees from LIFE, who have implicated in the photo, have been placed on “leave” as per LIFE receptionist who answered at 1108.

Per the above, the two employees involved are apparently on unpaid leave pending an internal investigation of the matter.

2-17 Air Cav

Yeah, the problem for Miss Vinegar and Water, as well as any other employee now under scrutiny by the company, is most likely that little matter of using the company’s dime for matters unrelated to work and has nothing whatsoever to do with her exercising her Constitutional right to freedom of expression.

Fucking bitch. Bring on the justice. Love it.

Mr. Blue

Had precious little Lindsey been caught on tape, say, mocking the people in her care, would her defenders be as quick to make excuses for her behavior? Would they then be bringing up the “she was only joking, leave her alone” defense? What if it was a racist screed? Would they be as surprised at the backlash?

marinewm86

@13 I had the same experience at the Arizona as a Marine. I know what you mean about the Tourist. Nevertheless i always stop and pay my respects when I am in the area of a National Cemetary or Memorial. We all have a debt of gratitude that can never be repayed to those brave men and women. I am always humbled..

Casey

One of Franks comments in the previous thread caught my eye, and I think it also reflects Ms. Stones thinking. At one point Frank said that she didn’t mean anything bad by it, so why should anyone get upset?

I don’t know how it got started, but these days intent seems to trump everything else in some quarters. Look at all the “I’m sorry if I have offended anyone” apologies we’ve seen the past 10 or 15 years.

Apparently for many folks these days, good intentions are preferable to prudence.

PALADIN

Wrote her employer a nice long dissertation on why they should fire her worthless ass.
As my Pappy used to say , Life is Hard when your stupid.

Anonymous

@34 True – ‘Look at all the “I’m sorry if I have offended anyone” apologies we’ve seen the past 10 or 15 years.’

I thought that too. The real problem is that it is decidely NOT a PC issue – though her “defenders” think that’s the worst it should be. It’s an issue of stupidity; of deliberate and arrogant in-your-face disrespect. In this case, based on her captioning for the FB photo, her disrespect IS her MO. That she chose the venue of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier purposely indicates her disrespect has no limits. As others have said actions have consequences.

Screw her sorry “defense”. Pile it on.

Hondo

PALADIN: a single sentence directed to her employer should suffice: “Ask yourself this question when considering whether to retain or terminate Ms. Stone: ‘Would you want someone that obviously lacking in common sense and good judgement involved in the daily care of one of your relatives?’ “

Green Thumb

She works for a NPO. She knew what she was doing. Just did not care. Fairly common. I bet you a dollar to your dime her defense will be along the lines of “the moral high ground”.

Ex-PH2

I posted this article from Careerbuilder on the other thread, just in case anyone thought I was just rambling about the effect of social networking on your job:

http://www.careerbuilder.com/JobSeeker/careerbytes/CBArticle.aspx?articleID=1702

Misbehavior posted on a public forum, especially with photos, can and does get people fired. It does not go away even if you take it down, especially when something goes viral as this did, because people copy it and comment on it and pass it on to other sites.

If she does get fired, I can’t muster any sympathy for her because she brought it on herself. No one forced her to make those comments or post that photograph.

Nik

Well they scrubbed the initial comments. Some 3500 have taken their place. They did not, it appears, scrub all of their places for commentary.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=532179296810847&set=a.114940265201421.14052.111187028910078&type=1

Two things stick in my craw about the whole matter.

1. She was on a business trip, not personal. She represents the company during that time. The company has likely taken the “right” legal action there. It’s the safe move, put her on suspension, declare an investigation. I don’t like that it’s the safe move. Safe doesn’t show concern. Safe does not show commitment. Safe says “We’re gonna do what the ‘experts’ say, not what we know in our gut is right”.

2. She was told it was disrespectful by her friends. She made the decision not to take it down. That’s like saying “I know you’re upset by this. I don’t care about you. I don’t care about those who I’m disrespecting.” Because of that, I say “Go to hell, Ms Stone. You don’t like what’s happening now? You want sympathy? It’s in the dictionary between shit and syphilis.”

Nik

My bad. Over 3900 comments.

There is a sign at the entrance to Arlington http://www.flickr.com/photos/tiz_herself/2063256214/
It reads ” Welcome to Arlington National Cemetary
Our Nations most Sacred Shrine.

Please conduct yourself with dignity and respect
These are Hallowed Grounds”

I was at Arlington today, I go every couple of years. I watch the changing of the old guard. I count the steps he takes, all 21 of them. I watch him pause.

Mostly I read the markers and watch the people, I have from time to time spoken to young people about behavior, today I spoke to a young man from ga and his teacher about why it is not ok to spit over the walkway onto a section. I know thier actions were done with out thought and with no malice, only ignorance.

Ms. Stones actions on the other hand were done willfully, with malice and intent to show disrespect.
In just a few couple of weeks a wreath will be laid on every grave in Arlington as well as almost every other grave in every national Cemetary. It’s called wreaths across America. I call upon Ms. Stone to unload one transfer truck full of Wreaths, to say out loud the name of a persons grave, his our her service, state of birth place and date of death for each wreath she touches. Then to hand that wreath to a service member and apologies for her actions, she does not deserve the honor or entering the Cemetary or placeing a wreath on a grave

Hack Stone

Her father will be appearing on the Today Show in a few minutes. Matt Lauer just played the teaser. I am expecting the standard “Poor judgment on her part, we have always supported the military, her grandfather served in WWII, blah, blah, blah…..” It looks like I will be leaving for work a few minutes later than planned. I just hope that they don’t drag it out past 07:30.

OWB

Still teasing it.

Cakmakli

This is from the company’s FB Page:

“We wish to announce that the two employees recently involved in the Arlington Cemetery incident are no longer employees of LIFE. Again, we deeply regret any disrespect to members of the military and their families. The incident and publicity has been very upsetting to the learning disabled population we serve. To protect our residents, any comments, however well-intentioned, will be deleted. We appreciate your concern and understanding as we focus on the care of our community.”
