Can Kerry Unite Us?
Two things prompted this missive. Of course Jonn’s post where I made a comment that said in part – Back in ’04 Kerry managed to bring disparate groups out of the woodwork to unify in condemning his Presidential run. And a reply to that comment from Nik – That’s a good sign, right? He can get people to work together who might not have otherwise.
I doubt you can find ANY MilBlog that is thrilled with the notion of Kerry as SECDEF, that isn’t what I’m trying to address here.
“Swiftboating” entered our vocabulary in ’04 following the Kerry Lied Rally in DC. The MSM used it as pejorative while some embraced the term.
Thing is that Kerry’s effort was stopped then.
The fact of Kerry’s ascension to public consideration for ANY office higher than those in Massachusetts keep re-electing him for could/would/should bring the old Kerry Lied crew back together.
Will this particular resurrection of Kerry be enough to stir up that which needs to be stirred up?
Aside: I am genuinely curious. That Kerry’s name even CAN be mentioned for a cabinet post has me befuddled. I do hope there is a bright side.

My reaction was just NFW! I cannot fathom who but teh elected one is calling these shots…What will they call the wall here if erected?
Problem is, Zero, he’ll probably be SecDef if Panetta wants to give up the free trips to/from the West Coast every weekend, which right now he claims he doesn’t want to do just yet.
Whether we band together in opposition to his appointment is irrelevant before 2014. He’ll have the support of the Dems in the Senate for confirmation, and that’s all he cares about.
What REALLY upsets me about this election is something few have thought about or made mention of yet. How much you want to bet at least 2-3 of the SCOTUS justices retire in the next two years? Now consider the court is going to have a VERY liberal bent for the next 25 years at least.
THAT more than anything else is what upsets me about last week’s election results.
This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we’ll be lucky to live through it.
Wherever Kerry goes, you can be sure it is because Obama wants that Department crippled by indecision, incompetence, and internecine bureaucratic warfare.

Kerry might unite us in a stir of near-universal hatred. However, I’m not sure it’ll have much effect unless we can do something with it.
The question then becomes, what can we do other than bitch and complain about it?

Three words: “Bait and Switch.”
Use Senator Kerry as the unappetizing bait, then switch to the person President Obama really wants at either Secretary of Defense or Secretary of State when the objections start.
Simple.
The idea that they would even consider putting Kerry in that spot seems like a strong indicator that Obama has exactly no interest in working bilaterally, despite what the teleprompters tell him to say.
NHSparky #2: No argument from this seat about your concerns. However, I’m not so certain that bringing folks together re: Kerry would not impact Obama’s agenda. Let me say it this way: Grasping at straws is better than simply letting go.
Kerry used the military for his personal tool to get ahead. He pimped them out during the Vietnam War because it was popular among certain circles and the media. He didn’t get called out on it for the things he did and say. He got ahead by degrading the military.
Years later he wants to run for president and immediately starts embracing the military to get ahead. But wait, some people didn’t forget what he said and did years ago… he was called on the carpet for what he said and did. The word hypocrite was not used… but the term “Swiftboating” was.
Seems you can’t have it both ways, especially in the military. Some people (delusional media) can’t seem to understand that fact.
This is a disastrous choice.
Wow… I never hear or read hardly ANYTHING about the economy or stock market lately… It’s all Petraeus Allen and the chicks.
Kerry will end up where the President wants him. We’ll be thrown a sop by the progressives on some little piece of legislation to smooth over his appointment or, as is more likely, we’ll be threatened into submission by the possible cutting or cancellation of some law or program we want to keep if Kerry is given any problems.
There’s a new Sheriff in town, pards. There won’t be any “swiftboating” this time.
Obama seems to be intent on driving home his victory by going out of his way to pick a new cabinet that is calculated to anger the Republicans; thus, Holder stays on at Justice, the idiotic Susan Rice becomes SecState, Kerry comes on as SecDef. He’ll probably nominate Hillary as his next Supreme Court appointment, or even Bill. Or Both.
Cmon now guys. Who better than a rabid hater of the US military to oversee massive cuts to the Pentagon.
If he ever had the guts to come clean on his post service turpitude, maybe. But we know that will never happen. As far as Rice becoming SecState, I don’t see the happening after her performance post Libya.
The one up side of sKerry being nominated for anything is that it allows for mass criticism of him without us all being called racists for doing it. Or so goes the theory.
Did y’all know Kerry was a Vietnam Vet? Oh yeah. He even has video of him humping the bush there. And that was while he was a Swift Boat skipper. Yes Sirree! A geunine JFK/PT 109 type. Guess you could say “unite” but IMO it’s more of an “ignite” situation. Hope he burns in Hell.
It’s believed by some that Kerry’s nomination will be announced on 14 NOV 12. Ditto that for Rice.

Bleh. Van Jones would insist all the Hummers be swapped out for Chevy Volts and Benjamin would demand all the rounds be swapped out for daisies because she saw it in a picture once.
