That Millionaire Puppet March
Yes, there was a march in DC yesterday to protest Mitt Romney’s remark that he was going to shut off spending for PBS. Somehow, that translates into ending Sesame Street. Says Newt Gingrich in the Washington Times;
“This happened to me back in 1995. Anytime you mention PBS, they trot out Big Bird, which is an absurdity,” Mr. Gingrich said on Fox News.
“The actor who plays Big Bird makes $317,000 a year for being inside a bird suit. The Sesame Street Company makes $800 million a year gross revenue of which 6 percent comes from the government. But it is so important to liberals.”
Yes, the hyperbole was flowing at the march, says the Washington Post;
“I am the way I am — I’m an artist — because of ‘Sesame Street’ and PBS,” said Michael Montgomery, who came up from Orlando with puppet Eddie. “To even think that that could go away is sad, and I want to raise my support for it in any way that I can.”
“I used to work for Sesame Street, and not only did it change my life as a kid, it changed my life as an adult,” said Michael Schupbach, who came in from New York City with his puppet Malcolm. “I can speak for the people who work there, everyone there knows how important their job is, they know they’re reaching 17 million kids every day.”
Yeah, I’m pretty sure that the Muppets won’t go away. I remember that they had a popular show on TV a few decades ago. They pump out profitable movies every few years. If, for some reason, they didn’t get government fundingand in the unlikely event that Public Broadcasting went away, I’m sure the Sesame Street crowd would find a new home on one of the countless children channels on cable if not on a broadcast network channel.
If there are 17 million viewers everyday, someone would spot the opportunity. If any other group of millionaires were marching in the streets because their government funding was getting cut off, I doubt anyone would pay this much attention to them.
And they said in the Washington Post article that it wasn’t a political march. How stupid do they think we are?

The Muppets are owned by Disney… you know, the poor group of investors that just purchased Star Wars for $4 BILLION. As for Sesame Street, they have little worry about closing because of the amount they bring in from every Tickle Me Elmo that a screaming kid is quieted with for five minutes.
The “Million Moonbat March”
Big Bird is a fag.
Every three months, the local PBS TV station has its fundraiser drive. They run stuff that never appears during their regular seasonal shows. You can now access all the PBS stuff online, too, including NOVA and Frontline. NPR (National Public Radio) does the same thing, with its quarterly fundraisers. Both PBS and NPR also get revenues from advertising and from foundations like the MacArthur Foundation.
In fact, the one and only local classical music station has a quarterly fundraiser, which supports broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera in NYC and supplements the revenues they get from advertising. It is not supplemented by any national endowments, and it is available online for streaming broadcasts by subscription.
The idea that any of these entities will disappear is nonsense. The National Endowment for the Arts, which supports PBS and NPR, is a very small chunk of the budget.
Henson Productions owns all of the Muppet characters. They started out on Jimmy Dean’s show with Rowlf singing and playing the piano, and then Bert and Ernie appeared at times, also.
This is ridiculous.
Bert and Ernie are gay.
What a silly distraction. But, the moonbats involved here are not doing something else destructive while they focus on this nonsense.
Silly, delusional moonbats. Idiots all. Their opinion is not elevated simply because they are rich moonbats.
Brought to you by the letters F and U, and the number 0, for the number of Fs I give over the plight of the millionaires.
Interestingly, if you follow the Progressives “Cradle-to-Grave” continuum, Sesame Stree serves as the first venue for introducing such concepts as homosexuality, Global Warming, redistribution of wealth, and social justice.
I was very disappointed with Ses St. I haven’t watched it since my sons were little–which has been about 25 years. I had my grand daughter over and she was watching it.
The number of the day was “2”.
WTF? It was up to 10 when my sons watched it…I figured by now they’d be up to 10,000 or something.
then I realized, they are just repeating the same stuff.
The “Count” can only count to “10”. Big bird is still taking LSD and seeing things… some of the old actors have passed away, but they’re still doing the same thing.
Why isn’t Michael Schupbach back in New York, helping out with disaster relief, instead of wasting oxygen in DC? Was this 100 Muppet march really that important?
Bert and Ernie are asexual they always have been…
Quit trying to destroy my childhood!
I’m sorry JPJ. Okay, I just HEARD they are gay. I have no proof of it. But Big Bird–well, let’s just say she’s not called the Queen of Sesame Street because of her bloodline.
There was a theory in my family that the whole Sesame Street thing was a nefarious plot to ruin the country. I wouldn’t know for sure – never watched it. But, from the things that others say about it, sounds like it may be emblematic of the deterioration of thought processes, curiosity and a host of other things which had until then been searched for by the young. :Sesame Street Generation” roughly translates to “the first generation which sat waiting to be told what to think?”
Bert and Ernie are gay. They came out with a whole special about it. Inventors and puppeteers commented on it. Supposedly it is to introduce alternative lifestyles and how everything is okay, tolerance and understanding, etc. This was a couple, few years ago. Short google/bing search will get you the applicible articles. Sucks, but there it is.
“This was brought to you by the Letter O and the number 16 trillion…” Mitt Romney at the Alfred Smith Dinner commenting on the Big Bird being the Straw man…
Stuck on Stupid for Obama….
I’ll willing to bet that for every puppet that showed up there was one less act of child molestation occurring somewhere else.
