Micah Turner; deserter (Updated)

| October 7, 2012

Phil sends us a link from YouTube which was posted on October 6th of Micah Turner. AKO says he was a sergeant at Fort Bragg and he’s surrounding himself with smelly hippies celebrating the fact that since he went AWOL 30 days before this video, he’s now a deserter. It looks like he’s making his little press conference at the Occupy DC camp a few blocks from the White House.

I think he’s trying to make a point, but since the war in Afghanistan is over, for all intents and purposes, I don’t know what that point could be.

Yes, I know people are still fighting and dying in Afghanistan, but this administration is doing it’s best to not win the war. I also wonder why we’re still over there, but since this administration has as it’s only strategy to withdraw, former sergeant Turner is pretty much joining in the rush for the exits.

He kind of reminds me of Ward Reilly who claims he went AWOL in Germany to protest the Vietnam War at a time when there were no more combat troops in Vietnam. Yeah, I’m sure the hippies love Turner, but I think he needs a throat punch. Using your uniform to make a political statement is never cool. Luckily, he won’t be a sergeant long after he turns himself in at his unit, like he promises. And I’m sure there’s someone at his unit that will give him the throat punch he deserves.

Thanks to Phil for the video.

Update:Seems that he tried to turn himself into a local police station that did not seem interested in it. ALso it seems that he is all about the drama by taking photos of himself in front of a Army Recruiting station and at Fort Hamilton. Here is another video that was made yesterday by him.

@86.

Same old story. And tell 77 that I have longed moved on from the branch.

That being said, I rarely find a non-IN guy who has anything positive to say about the IN. While I agree you need CS/CSS, Combat Arms gets lost in the shuffle, as usual.

As for young punk, I bet I am older than you.

Years ago I had to take the hard road. No future, no opportunities and so forth. The branch that everyone hates is the only one that provided that. I understand we live in the days of the “Army of One” mentality, but do not fault me for holding it in disdain.

Additionaly, I did my time. That garauntees my being able to state an opinion. Like it or not.

As far is this dude goes, the deserter, he is a shitbag.

I do not wish to get into a pissing match, but to let you know where I stand.

Old Trooper

We had a guy that went AWOL, since he was being investigated for drug running and was under escorted supervision within the company, he decided to hit the road. Well, a couple of months later, he called the 1st Sergeant and aksed to come back. Top told him he didn’t want him back and to just keep on running. A few months after that, he was picked up trying to get a government contractor job in Florida. Yeah, he was that smart.

As for this hosehead; I agree that he should walk up to the main gate at Bragg and turn himself in, anything short of that and he’s just grandstanding for his breathless little minions.

Ex-PH2

OT, it occurred to me that since you sign an enlistment contract, if you go UA before your time is up, isn’t that breach of contract? Shouldn’t there be a fine involved in that equal to the amount of time left on his contract?

BK

I had a five year enlistment – 4 years, 17 weeks, and then extended to do an accompanied tour in Alaska. But that was the 1990s. @44 – Eileen – I’m sure you’ve figured out from this threat that desertion is not one of those things the veteran community looks upon kindly, no matter what his service record looks like until that point. I’m not going to accuse you or Turner of being narcissists, but there is no small amount of moxie required to assert that this kind of dissent is necessary to the moral man or useful in the grand scheme of things. It’s a craven act of cowardice, to leave a unit in the lurch, no matter how many times one has done it before. Is he standing before railcars on their way to Auschwitz or running an operation to kill an evil autocrat? Was he going to be called upon to commit war crimes or atrocities? Even if he were in a combat MOS, the answer is JUMPING JESUS ON A POGO STICK NO. Someone can invoke Godwin’s Law on my arse, I don’t care. I grew up hearing survivor testimony at every turn, and still, bless her heart, hear the survivor testimony of my wife’s second cousin every Passover. Tools like this guy, tools that apologize for tools like this guy, need to understand that in adhering to this sense that America is engaged in operations indicative of a nation that has lost its moral footing play right into the hands of people that really do commit atrocities. When a douchenozzle turns his back on an oath he has sworn to appease his sense of vanity, to the applause of nitwits that are very, very confused about what is moral and amoral, it does nothing to shape the discourse in this nation. Folks like you get your “heroes” to rub one off to, and we get the black eye of looking like curmudgeons because we know–KNOW–him for what he is. And on the other end is Achmed, who says, “look, those dumb Americans are losing their… Read more »

Veritas Omnia Vincit

BK—sadly Achmed is getting it right, the 99% who don’t serve don’t much care about Achmed and his pals so they support a draw down and exit strategy. Which leaves this conflict ending in similar fashion to a previous conflict. The result will be the government we put in place collapsing and a return to conditions eerily similar to before we arrived.

That’s what makes Dooley’s class so invaluable before it was cancelled. He was discussing what a “total” war means against a religious entity….and I think he was on the right track.

Elieen Maxwell,

My statement is only what the regulation state. As the maxium penalty for desertion durring time of war- Is death. No threat, just your boy needs to be made an example of.

I honored my commitment when it was difficult, painful and the state of california treats me as a danger- I walked away with head held high and my honor intact. I surrived my with all charges dissimed

Your boy ran away- I hate weakness within myself, i dispise it in others. Others who walked the same line honored thier word, why not your boy?

What joke you are, pacifist. Your Elieen are liar and utter fake. You deny what some are ment for. The doctrine of pacifism is flawed. You still fight, with your self or with the aggitator. Your blind eyes refuse to see life for what is is.

Go copy and cry a bleeding river to whom ever you wish to. All i have stated is fact. traitors and Deserters are no differnt and must be delt with harshly.

Just a random thought, if he had been on four deployments then why is he only wearing a nine ribbon rack.

I would think that the person has been on that many deployments would have more.

@101

Fair enough. Appreciate the tone of this more than previous posts.

Thank you for your service.

Green Thumb

SFC H, and yours as well.

It is my understanding that you are back off leave having returned to the rockpile.

Believe it or not, I actually enjoy your posts.

Good luck and stay low.

Be safe.

What about all those people who were told that they would only serve a certain amount of time and then when that time was over, they were told they were still stuck in the war again and again? Is that right? You take an oath to fight for your country, but we all hear how those people end up going back to the war zone when their tour is up. How is that right?

Sporkmaster

Well I would like to hear how that plays into it when Stop Loss policy was ended in 2009. Also if you were so broken up about Stop Loss when it was going on what stopped you from enlisting to allow someone else to go home?

Just Plain Jason

@Green Thumb, my dick is…oh wait. The only time I talk shit about infintry (it took three times to spell that wrong stupid autocorrect on my computer) is when you are in earshot…

Hell why don’t they just force Branum to defend him in court. That is guaranteed 6 months hard labor and a Dishonorable isn’t it?

Yat Yas 1833

Ok guys, is the enlistment contract still six years? Tho most common length of the AD part of it is three years, at least in the Marine Corps. I remember GySgt LeGree, my recruiter, reiterating that if a national emergency occurred, we could be extended. That was over 30 years ago!?

NHSparky

Total MSO is 8 years, AD is whatever you originally enlisted for, then IRR until the 8 year point unless you extend/reenlist out to that point. After that, you pretty much walk away and that’s that, unless you’re a retiree, then there’s the whole Fleet Reserve/Retired List bit which I don’t know jack about.

Hondo

NHSparky: technically retirees and Fleet Reserve are still subject to the UCMJ. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard of anybody prosecuted for violations that occurred after they retired. There may have been a few cases of folks being recalled to active duty to be tried for crimes committed pre-retirement, but even that’s pretty damned rare. Even in the IRR, my impression is that prosecutions are quite rare unless the offense is both egregious and very public.

When it rains, it pours.

@JPJ.

I will help you out…Your dick is…..in your battle buddies mouth!

An issue I never really had to deal with in the IN.

Just saying….

Rhubarb Pie

Honestly fellas, I don’t think this guy really served in the military. He’s got thick, bitch thighs and questionable ribbon/medal placement. Maybe when he’s done not getting picked up for a warrant that isn’t in the system because he probably never served, he can press his face against the Vietnam War Memorial and cry for all his brothers that died with him at the hands of an unloving American Imperialistic Government. And then he can take his one man show to Arlington, and cry on Tom Hanks grave and ask his wife to tell him he was a good man. Just sayin’.

I’m sorry, but I’m going to double down and say this guy is another leftist fraud.
