Pakistan posts bounty on film maker’s head
Jeffery sends us a link to an al Jazeera article on the news that some Pakistani minister has offered a $100,000 bounty for the film maker who made the YouTube video about Mohammed which touched off a fire storm of outrage in the last few weeks in the Muslim crescent;
Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmed Bilour on Saturday also invited members of the Taliban and al-Qaeda to take part in what he called a “noble deed”.
“I announce today that this blasphemer who has abused the holy prophet, if somebody will kill him, I will give that person a prize of $100,000,” he said.
Earlier, more than 5,000 protesters, including hundreds of women, marched towards the parliament in Islamabad, chanting “We love our Holy Prophet” and “Punishment for those who humiliated our Prophet”.
I don’t know what a railroad minister would have to do with it, but there you go. At least they’re going after the right person for a change instead of a US ambassador that had nothing to to do with the video.
In related news, Salmon Rushdie, who has been threatened with a fatwa for two decades from the Iranian Revolutionary Council has written a book about his life hiding from the threat of death;
On the weekend, a state-linked Iranian religious foundation increased the bounty on his head to $3.3 million. Its leader argued that had Rushdie been killed, later cases of Islam being insulted would have been avoided.
So this latest bounty is weak sauce given that the perpetually outraged can’t make good on their threat against Rushdie. And I wonder how much of that $100,000 bounty will come from the aid that the US Senate voted to not cut this weekend. Apparently we’re giving them too much money if they have enough to pay bounties for nearly comical film clips.

I suppose the choo-choo minister had as much to do with it as General Marty had to do with the US response to the consulate/embassy attacks when he called for Pastor What’sHisName to disavow the film which nobody has seen. The description of the film short as nearly comical is politely reserved. I laughed my butt off at the acting, dialogue, and cinematography. I especially liked the Mexicans passing themselves off as Arabs.
What I really want to know is what Cat Stevens thinks of all of this!
Yeah, they’ll pay the bounty in US dollars from the how many bazillions comrade banana gives ’em. Otherwise they’d have to to the bounty in raped goats!?

Noticing this post first at facebook, my immediate comment was: “Where in hell does a Pakistani Minister get $100,000.00? Never mind, I know. Aaaaaah, the love that our aid money can buy.”
But then saw that Jonn covered it in the last paragraph of the post here.
These fools have been voicing threats for years. To them, merely making a threat is tantamount to the actual act them self because they don’t have the guts to go after him themselves, and neither do any of the rest of them. Not that I support a “bounty” on anyone, it just strikes me as curious how all the saber rattling can go on for so long. As far as Pakistan goes, we all know the U.S. relationship with that country is a marriage of convenience. They are NOT our allies in spite of what the State Department will say.
Guess that it is too much to assume these days that the film maker actually IS a US citizen, given how many residents here now are not. But let’s say that he is – WTF, over?????
Has he (or even she, since we do not really know WHO made the damned thing) committed a capitol crime? At least a capitol crime by US law? No? Well, then WHY ARE WE PAYING A BOUNTY???????
The insanity that is called foreign policy these days has gone from laughable to flat out dangerous. There is NO, zero, zip, nada justification for any of us to be contributing in any way to the killing of US citizens by foreigners. Period.
Wonder what kind of bounty they’ll put on Bill Maher’s head, if they every tumble to the “insult” to their “Prophet” he did?
It would be a shame if a drone inadvertently released a missile during a training run over the minister’s home…..kind of like the accidental bomb drop on the French embassy a few decades back…
I think we should churn out a movie like this once a week for years, acompanied by a lot of publicity, until they learn people have the right to free speech, including the right to insult mohammed.

Well, just like letting a baby cry and cry until it cries itself to sleep, these guys can’t stay in the state of their hair being on fire forever. I mean you can only stay totally outraged for so long……
