Joint Chiefs Chairman’s plane catches a rocket

| August 21, 2012

The Associated Press reports that the Taliban punctuated the visit of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey, to Afghanistan so he could discuss with the Afghan government the “insider attacks” with a rocket at Bagram Air Base outside of Kabul. The rocket did some damage to General Dempsey’s plane, but apparently he wasn’t near the aircraft when it was hit.

Two maintenance workers were injured slightly by shrapnel from the two rockets that were fired into Bagram Air Field outside Kabul on Monday night, coalition spokesman Jamie Graybeal said.

Dempsey “was nowhere near” the plane when the rockets hit near where the aircraft was parked, Graybeal said.

The spokesman added that Dempsey had finished his mission in Afghanistan and had left by Tuesday morning, though it was unclear what plane he flew out on or how badly the targeted plane was damaged.

I’m sure the troops are doing the best they can over there with what they’ve got, but I think the “with what they’ve got” part is seriously hindering them. The focus, at this point, seems to be the withdrawal on it’s time table. The Afghans are trying to recruit any warm bodies they can find to get their own forces stood up before we leave and this is a danger to their own forces as well as ours.

That brief surge has collapsed on itself. 10,000 left last year with another 40,000 scheduled to leave by the end of this year. New Zealand announced that their troops will leave early. France says their troops will be out by the end of the year.

Somehow, it’s difficult to believe NATO when they insist that the Taliban won’t return to rule Afghanistan in our wake. And that’s the reason that most Afghans didn’t buy into our war against the Taliban in the first place, because of our long history of half-ass war against oppression.

The problem is that the Taliban is infiltrating Afghan forces, but the CIA is not infiltrating the Taliban.

And the reason for that is NO ONE is going to act as an operative with President Obama in charge. He has had a chilling effect on counterterrorism. The people who helped us capture Bin Laden are either dead or under arrest because President Lightworker had to publish OPSEC material that our enemies used.

We will never be able to infitrate the Taliban so long as people are afraid that the U.S. will not protect them.

“difficult to believe NATO when they insist that the Taliban won’t return to rule”

I agree with that sentiment,
Santayana said it best, “those who can’t remember the past are condemned to repeat it….”

This is kind of like saying North Vietnam won’t take over South Vietnam after we leave….

The Taliban will be in power in a sh1thole like Afghanistan in 90-180 days after our departure. There is nothing about the Afghani government, military, or police that indicates they are capable of keeping their nation for themselves…

That’s why a long term strategy involves endless occupation like South Korea, except you will have troops under fire in Afghanistan for the endless occupation, or you burn the whole piece of sh1t country to the ground…then you don’t have to worry what they want or what they will do because they will be dead.

And about an hour after our last flight out, Karzai will be on a plane to Europe so he can enjoy the millions he’s scammed and skimmed in safety.

Vietnam part…2? 3? Does NO ONE in charge ever read a history book?

Karzai won’t fly out. He will just shift colors, put on his black man dress and head up the Taliban government.

J.M.

Nah, he enjoys his high standard of living too much. A mansion on the french rivera while heading up a ‘goverment in exile’, no more then 6 months after the last US troops leave.

I unfortunately agree with JM. And the Taliban will control all or most of the country within 3-4 months. If that long.

“And the reason for that is NO ONE is going to act as an operative with President Obama in charge”. Perfectly understandable, I’m certain no one wants to hear their name given out at the next presser that the 0[that’s a zero] has.

The far left loons have been wanting their newest reincarnation of “Vietnam” and by God, it looks like they will now get it. How long before we see another “Winter Crybaby” third session at the George Meany Auditorium, the N.L.C. Silver Springs? Any takers?

Reporters invested with the Syrian rebels reported over this past weekend that Al Qaeda/Taliban forces have moved into Syria and are recruiting locals.

And I don’t mean to be an alarmist, but there seems to be a media blitz going on with Netanyahu and Ehud Barak (Defense Minister) regarding a pre-emptive strike against Iran, per the following:

Writing in Israel’s biggest-selling daily, Yedioth Ahronoth, Nahum Barnea and Simon Shiffer, both respected commentators, said: “Insofar as it depends on [Prime Minister] Binyamin Netanyahu and [Defense Minister] Ehud Barak, an Israeli military strike on the nuclear facilities in Iran will take place in these coming autumn months, before the US elections in November.”

It’s not the hawk talk that I find bothersome, it’s the “before US elections” portion. I feel that we may not be out of the Middle East any time soon.

Iran will turn into a quagmire if we go in. I seriously doubt they’ll ever get a bomb, and if they do, military will take it over from the mullahs. Might even have a regime change. Every time a nation gets a nuke its always been they’ll nuke their neighbors. India hasn’t done it, China or Pakistan either. Or Israel. Good for raiding the taxpayers for some new item in DoD though.
