Protest in DC for gun rights
The Washington Times reports that about 40 young residents of the Metro DC area protested in front of city hall this weekend for the right to carry concealed weapons in the wake of the media non-frenzy over Floyd Corkins raid on the Family research Council’s offices this past week.
Mayor Vincent C. Gray has pledged to preserve the city’s strict gun laws after the incident renewed debate about firearm safety in the city.
Which makes perfect sense since Corkins brought the gun on the subway from Virginia. DC’s strict gun laws didn’t prevent Corkins from bringing the gun into the District while the law abiding citizens of DC are the proverbial fish in a barrel.
“I really do believe we should be allowed to have our Second Amendment rights,” protester Amanda Haas, 21, said.
Ms. Haas said she is “a single girl who’s living in the city” and should have the right to protect herself with a firearm if, for instance, she is accosted while walking at night from the Metro to her home near Eastern Market.
She has good reason to worry, since crime has been on the rise in the Eastern Market area of the city, a scant few blocks from Capitol Hill. Like the other night when a 29-year-old man was beaten near Eastern Market. Fish in a barrel.

There’s just so much wrong with that statement. When the citizenry is to the point that it believes the government gives them permission to have their rights, it’s time for that government to be fired.

When you have a government that you thinks or expect to give you everything, it’s a whole lot easiervfor that government to take it all away.
Take them all out and start over.

D.C. mocked for years as standing for Drugs & Crime – even a certain Mayor enjoyed a little coke on the side. It can’t be an accident that DC is consistently on FBI most dangerous cities list and a democratic stronghold ala Chicago. Must be all the gov’t jobs, because its a thriving area.
I am echoing the above statements. When will people give the second ammendment the same protection and merit that the first ammendment receives? Our rights are under attack and have been for a very long time. Everyone who can carry must carry. Gun ownership should be mandatory for law abiding citizens. It should be okay to shoot a criminal committing violent crimes without reprisal. This is our country.

The government gets it powers from us, not the other way around. It’s time we actually start teaching people what that means. Too many folks are now indoctrinated with the notion that the Government “allows” them rights…those right are an intrinsic component of the foundation of laws our nation is built on. DC is the perfect example of how strict gun laws don’t accomplish jack sh1t when it comes to reducing crime…
Lib politicos just don’t get it. Criminals don’t give a tinker’s damn about laws! There are laws against robbing banks but they get robbed every day. There are laws against lots of thing but criminals break those laws all the time. Does anyone in their right mind think criminals are going to obey gun laws?! Oh, wait…LIBS aren’t in their right minds.
