If You Doubted That the UN Was Useless . . .
. . . then you might want to read this article.
Yeah, that’s the same Sudan whose president has been indicted by the International Criminal Court for “crimes against humanity” for genocide in Darfur. But the UN apparently has no problem with giving them a seat on the UN Human Rights Council.
And we (the US taxpayer) pick up 22% of the cost of the UN’s everyday budget and 27% of the cost of UN peacekeeping operations. “Your tax dollars at work.”
Maybe those John Birch Society billboards about the UN from the 1960s were right after all. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally.

If anyone is interested in the UN topic, there is a GREAT movie out on DVD now called “U.N. Me.” It’s a documentary about how worthless, disgusting and corrupt the United Nations is. Well worth checking out.
Nothing those American hating ass douches do surprises me. The whole of the UN is nothing more than a pus pimple on the ass of this country, as useless as tits on a bull.
Maybe we could just kick the UN out of New York City, because we need the space for people to live in, and become the world’s policemen instead.
It was really only effective, if that’s the right word, during the Cold War. Now that’s over with, and what’s left? A bunch of squabbling children who have no idea how to behave in a civilized way.
OK… I agree with most of the posts…but after you get rid of the UN and then what? Where can counties meet and shit over the US. At least we know where they stand… even though we don’t like what they say. Hold their comments and votes to our foreign aid… that will be a start!
From the article, concerning the Sudanese warlord joining the Human Rights Council: ‘”…It’s like putting Jack the Ripper in charge of a women’s shelter.”‘
I couldn’t have said it any better. That’s the whole UN, in a nutshell.
Beretverde: I have no issue with the UN continuing to exist as a “world debating society” – hell, that’s about all it’s good for now. And we could easily send observers there to keep tabs on what was going on.
I do, however, object to continuing to subsidize the UN to the tune of literally billions of dollars annually – plus free use of a huge chunk of prime NYC real estate – for the “privilege” of letting them spit in our face. Plus their diplomatic status allows countries unfriendly to us to bring tons of folks here as part of their UN mission we wouldn’t otherwise allow in the US at all.
I think the time has come to tell the UN to move its HQ permanently to Geneva. And I also think that maybe the time has come to consider whether or not US interests would be better served if the US were to become an observer at the UN vice remaining a full member. Lord knows we’re getting precious little but insults and grief as the result of UN membership these days.
This reminds me of when Ted Kennedy was serving on the Senate Ethics committee…there is no end the hypocrisy in government all over the world…
As long as we’re the proclaimed “superpower”, the most powerful free nation on earth – U.S is picking up the lion’s share of the tab at breakfast, lunch, and dinner like it or not. If lots of money gets wasted on call girls, plosh vacays, luxury cars/boats, and personal swiss accounts – hey, its other peoples money no worries. Yep, a bureaucracy -business as normal.
