NYTimes article portend end times
PintoNag sends a tip to a New York Times article that actually praises the troops. The article by Rod Nordland is entitled “Good Deeds in Afghanistan Interrupt the Grim Narrative” and mentions several instances in which the troops saves lives, instead of taking lives.
After months of what has seemed like a relentless series of episodes of soldiers behaving badly, from Koran burnings to massacres, the military was almost reluctant to trumpet its good deeds, not only in the Weichel case, but in another recent case where soldiers saved the life of a Taliban insurgent’s son.
Matiullah Khan, a vegetable seller and Zaiullah’s uncle, said, “As you know, all five fingers on one hand are not equal, and it’s the same with American soldiers.”
So, were the Mayans right? Is the world coming to an end? When the New York Times thinks it’s important to report the good deeds the majority of our soldiers have done instead of focusing on the few who aren’t so good, what else can this mean?
As Hondo said in a previous discussion, I’m heading to the Pyrenees. Just in case.
Or maybe this is the NYT’s idea of an April Fools Day joke.

Hate to say it, but I’m tending towards the latter. As intellectually dishonest as they are, they are smart enough to realize not everyone is going to ignore the lack of criticism of this administration when the troops behave badly as opposed to the piles heaped on the previous administration for things equally beyond the control of the White House.
But this leaves them in a quandary–how to put some sort of positive light or at least counterbalance the negative while at the same time keeping with the theme of, “Thou shalt not criticize His Holiness, TOTUS?” Simple, at least in their minds–damn the troops with faint praise and hope everyone walks away happy.
Well, I’ll be damned. Perhaps the Millenia is at hand after all!
What’s next – insipid, joe the rock-climbing hero, or DUIDave posting something that isn’t a prime example of ignorant assclownery?
Hondo–you’ve got a better chance of winning that $640 million all to yourself, two days after the drawing.
HA HA HA I get it, April Fool’s Day!? The New York Times saying anything good about the military or Marine Corps? WAIT, I just saw a pig fly my window.
My vote is this is an April Fool’s Day joke. I can’t believe Pinch and his editors would stop shooting up their daily dose of oikophobia.
Something very strange is going on. All those articles about PTSD, and now this? I want to know what kind of new game they’re playing.
The MSM is far more institutionally biased towards profit than it is towards ideology. After surrendering any pretense towards investigative journalism, they are more TMZ than Ernie Pyle.
But it’s nice when they see the light at times.
CI–if they gave a shit about profit they would have abandoned their agenda decades ago. Look at ad revenues for print media. Look at viewership of the Big Three nightly newscasts. Christ, CARTOON NETWORK draws more than CNN on most weeknights between 7 and 9 PM.
The decline in print and network viewers/subscribers is due largely to competition with social and alternative media.
They’ve generally turned to infotainment and combative media as a means to keep viewers/readers…which is a dispiriting illustration of the state of our society.
It’s simple….it’s their way of being fair in reporting….90% bias and 10% so, so….
The Liberal version of Fair and Balanced.
“from Koran burnings to massacres”
Massacres? Really? In ten years how many massacres have we witnessed? Even in trying to be positive, which I’m not sure they are, they smear the troops.
And if I remember my Spanish correctly “Pinch” pronounced with an accent is the lowest most disgusting type of whore one can be. Fits…
I think most of you are making way more of this than there really is… Look at the opening line: “After months of what has seemed like a relentless series of episodes of soldiers behaving badly.” Really? Months? A relentless series? Clearly, the Times’ bias is showing through. There were TWO instances. Hardly a relentless series. The NYT still sucks.
This is the newspaper that doesn’t employ fact checkers… Well I guess if they only run one story repeatedly I guess it could count…
New York Times praising the troops?
Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!
J.M., to that I would add, Occutards taking baths.
And, the decline in viewers and subscribers may, in part, be due to competition with social and alternative media, but it’s also due, in part, to the agenda they refuse to deviate from. Not to mention, some of the employees on the alphabet networks that pass for “talent” today. Just to name three, F. Chuck Todd, Scott Pelley and Diane Sawyer.
