Taliban bomb Afghans for Koran burning

| February 27, 2012

Sorry, I neglected the rest of you for a while this afternoon, but TopGoz was buying my lunch, so he took priority over the rest of you for a while.

Anyway, I had a WTF? moment when I read that the Taliban bombed some Afghans in retaliation for the Koran burnings, according to this Stars & Stripes report;

A suicide car bombing killed nine people and injured a dozen outside a military airfield in eastern Afghanistan on Monday, the latest spasm of violence resulting from the burning of Qurans at a U.S. base last week.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack at Forward Operating Base Fenty in Jalalabad. The victims were Afghan civilians and security personnel.

Now that makes complete sense to me, I mean I’m glad that it was some Afghans instead of Americans for a change, but, how seriously do the Taliban hate the people they seek to rule if they’re just making people ‘splode for the sake of ‘splodin’ people?

CNN reports that Hamid Karzai finally found something that the Taliban has done worthy of his condemnation;

Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned a suicide bombing Monday at a military airfield, the latest incident in a spike in violence following the burning of Qurans by NATO troops last week.

At least nine people were killed and 12 wounded in the early-morning explosion near the front gate of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force base at Jalalabad airport in eastern Afghanistan, according to Gen. Abdulla Hazim Stanikzai, the provincial police chief.

In a statement issued on the bombing Monday, Karzai condemned the “inhuman and un-Islamic” act and urged that “the ruthless enemy would earn nothing but growing public hatred and punishment before Allah, the Almighty.”

Good for him…but he’s been enabling the Taliban for years trying to protect their delicate sensibilities. But that sentiment prevails…the diplomats are worried that peace talks between the Afghans and the Taliban are being made “shaky” by the latest spurt of violence across the country.

I have news for y’all, your precious peace talks were “shaky from the get-go because of who you were dealing with.

The Taliban also claimed Monday to be behind the poisoning of food at a dining facility at Forward Operating Base Torkham, near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. It too was a retaliatory attack, the group said.

ISAF confirmed that food at the base appeared to have been contaminated over the weekend, though it was unclear if it was deliberate.

Do you mean to tell me that hiring local civilians to do your cooking is putting the troops in danger? Who saw that coming?

Old trooper, what do you have against dogs or fleas?! The taliban are lower than whale turds and that’s at the bottom of the ocean. I think they have some kind of collective mental illness. How can you rationalize killing people who had nothing to do with the burning of the books? And I thought I read somewhere that burning was the prescribed method of destroying Quaran that were no longer usable? Why not go after the prisoners who defaced the books in the first place? Dumb asses.

How do you have a Trial in Afghanistan of Americans Soldiers under NATO law? Is this about Qurans being burnt over having American Soldiers submit to some International Law or Shari Law? I know the penalty for Blasphemy under Sharia Law is Death. I have know idea under NATO law what the penalty for following protocol and orders is for the proper disposal of desecrated Qurans. I remember A President not long ago disposed of OBL out in the middle of the Ocean. Should he face the same tribunal to determine his fate?

If they would use G.I. cooks instead of the locals then the food would not get poisoned. But then somebody would not be lining their pockets. Oh my!

Unfortunately a lot of the work on FOBs is done by Afghans now, especially when the Army cuts your brigade in half as you deploy. It’s hard to occupy a BN FOB with 350 people or a company COP with 50 and still cook food and guard towers, etc etc.
