Who needs jobs or oil?
Several years back, I told my daughter that she should trade in her Acura (Jap Honda POS) and get something cheaper with a better maintenance record. Her answer was “Why do I need an extra $100/month? What will it buy me?”
I see that myopic strategy at work today in the Obama Administration plans to reject the Keystone pipeline from Fox News;
For three years, the State Department has been reviewing the initial proposal to run a pipeline from Canada down to Texas through a sensitive Nebraska aquifer — authority it has because of the transnational path the route takes. The pipeline had been through several other federal, state and local approvals, but the department backed away from signing off on the plan last year after environmentalists complained.
Industry workers and Republicans contend the project would create thousands of jobs, and Canada’s prime minister has warned if the U.S. can’t get on board, the North American nation will look to team with China.
Who needs thousands of more jobs in this country? Who needs oil money? Letting China move in is a great idea whose time has come. China operates refineries in Africa and is making deals for oil in South and Central America, why not let them in our neighborhood? After all, they’re not really communists anymore, right? They’re no threat. Well, other than their new subs and aircraft carriers.
Obama has noted his environmental concerns when it comes to energy exploration but insisted Tuesday that a balance could be found.
“I think the recommendations are sound. We see enormous potential in production of traditional fossil fuels,” he said without mentioning Keystone.
Once again, I’ll quote Jimmy Carter’s explanation for forming the Department of Energy in his “Malaise Speech“, in which he decried our “crisis of confidence” in government;
To make absolutely certain that nothing stands in the way of achieving these goals, I will urge Congress to create an energy mobilization board which, like the War Production Board in World War II, will have the responsibility and authority to cut through the redtape, the delays, and the endless roadblocks to completing key energy projects.
We will protect our environment. But when this Nation critically needs a refinery or a pipeline, we will build it.
There has not been a refinery or an oil pipeline built since that speech. Mainly because we subject our energy policy to the whims of filthy hippies who don’t buy gas or need jobs.

Hey Joe; I’m not talking about the infallibility of the markets, I just don’t like being dictated to by the government and I really don’t like to be told how I’m supposed to live by a bunch of pre-pubescent do-gooder types that couldn’t get laid in a whorehouse with $200 pinned to their shirt.
I have a question. If the 10 stupidest ways to use oil was identiified how much oil would be saved if no oil was used
in ths 10 stupid ways. Whould this savings make problms easier to solve?
Curt, or Cupcake or whatever the fuck, please pick a screen name and stick with it.
say I did not actually submit that comment yet. I was still thinking about whether or not to submit it and it submited itself. I may ask you to remove it. Now that it is posted I am not sure that it should be removed.
Uh, Joe….You still don’t know a damn thing. You spit those worn out enviro-commie talking points like a fucking human pinata. The roadways you pedal your bicycle on and drive your “ecomobile” on are paid for by fuel tax monies collected by your government at the pump and through “road tax” and allocated in no real particular order. Since the Highway Trust Fund was tapped by Carter to be spent elsewhere it is the reason Obama was spouting off about the highways in America, comparing them to our dear Chinese friends infrastructure. By the way, there is new bridge construction project going on somewhere in your neighborhood. The major bridge parts are built in China…How many American companies got that bid?
Try that one again, “Cup Cake”?
Trooper? Joe pays “Rosie Palm” for that service or so it has been reported on the rumor underground…
Joe’s ecomobile is probably the same brand as that POS that I see in the left lane on the interstate, (the lane that people use to work, i.e. truckers, and get to work). My 7300 pound Prius Pusher is American made, old enough, (’87), to be of substantial construction, and with that steel wrapped around me, I am in waaaaay better shape than anyone in a damned “green car”. That it doesn’t get a gazilion miles per gallon is no problem. I drive it for the comfort, pleasure, safety, and because it makes Prius owners cringe when they see me loading it with diesel fuel. If I hadn’t found this Custom Hauler when I did, I would probably be driving a semi tractor, (licensed as private vehicle), to go shopping, go to breakfast, etc.
Joe I’m sure you feel good about yourself, I’m sure if we were to do an inspection of your home we would find how actualized you are. But I’d be willing to bet Dollars to Dinars that there’s a large element of hypocrisy in the way you live your life that would become readily apparent should we do such an inspection. Its nothing against you personally that’s just how Liberals are. From Al Bore to Bill Mahr. If you are such a saint as you seem to suggest. . . then I would suggest you get yourself canonized in the Church of Liberalism. I hear being a Liberal Saint gets you sweet T-shirts and a few extra skanky college girls (and boys) that have an arms length relationship with soap. . .
Enjoy.
Hey, Joey, screw your belief in the infallibility of environazis. They have consistently gotten just about everything wrong that they’ve laid eyes on.
Meanwhile, there are people who have to drive 20 or more miles to work. And, it’s kind of hard to pedal a bike in 4 or more inches of snow that distance. But, we know you could give a shit less. You’ve got yours, and fuck everyone else, right? Typical.
@60- no, that’s not it at all, UN. You’re just not smart enough to know what’s in your best interest. Joe is though, and he’s looking out for you, buddy. The first step is, of course, limiting your lifestyle choice to a few set parameters that he and his fellow self-annointed intellectuals have thought up. For your benefit, of course. Drive what they tell you to drive, live how they tell you to live, and pay extra taxes on anything that they deem “unhealthy” or “unnecessary” (a combine? What the hell do you need that gas-guzzling behemoth for?) Then, go about your life quietly and do not complain, or they will send you to a re-education facility to get your mind right while you learn valuable trade skills, like digging graves, building camps, and constructing roads.
Oh, and Joe- are you under the impression that natural gas companies would be drilling in times square or something? Pull your head out of your ass. Those fuckwits are protesting because it’s the progressive cause du jour, with the added benefit of not effecting them in the slightest. Hell, we even had you dipshits pressure the idiots in Albany to ban fracking within Albany city limits. It was stamped with a big veto by Jennings, because apparently he was the only one who noticed that fracking is still under review, and that there were no proposals, by any company, for any wells within Albany limits. A complete waste of time.
#50. I’m guessing Guiness has virtually no effect on you, none what so ever. You cannot kill that which is already dead.
#62: if your saying Joe is a Zombie then I have an E-tool I’m going to have to introduce his brain to.
Doc I was referring to his brain cells, but zombie works too.
@ 63. Doc you’re assuming Joe has a brain!? Does your e-tool have a wooden handle? Mine does!!
Joe, who elected you ecouberfuhrer? I did my time in the Marine Corps to get the GI Bill so I could go to college so I could afford my Dodge Ram pick-up that gets shitty gas mileage because that’s what I choose to drive. You want to ride your bike? Great! Come to Phoenix and ride your bike in August when it’s 115 degrees! I’ll drive my gas guzzling truck with the AC blasting and Brad Paisley blaring on the stereo.
It is really a shame that Liberals fail to realize their own Zombieish tenancies. Personally I like making up my own mind.
Well Joe, we only got 4 inches of snow this morning. Of course, all those Priuses with plow attachments kept I-95 clean, sanded, and salted so people could go to work and pay taxes which go to lazy fuckers who sit on computers all day and bitch about the evils of “big oil”, etc.
Oh, who the fuck am I kidding. It wasn’t Priuses with plow attachments–it was unicorns and the skittles they shit out magically melted all the snow from the roads.
Joe @ 42–You talk about the current state of alternate technologies as you see them That would be because I HAVE WORKED WITH THEM. Next? Imagine where some of these alternate technologies would be now if we’d started iplementing them, creating incentives for them, improving them right after 1973-74 We did. How’d those solar water heaters and PV cells work out in the 1970’s? Yeah, they’re not much better off today. Nearly 40 percent of the PV cells made today go to one product–solar-powered calculators. Anyone who thinks that PV or other solar systems (like Solar One out in Barstow that blew up back in the 1990’s?) is going to replace or become “baseline load” (Google it, Joe) is either naive or insanely stupid. Actually, in your case Joe, both might well apply. My father helped build a geothermal plant out by the Salton Sea back in the late 1980’s. Didn’t work so hot, come to find out–they were sucking so much shit up along with the steam that the baffles were wearing out in about 1/3 the time previously projected, not to mention the fact that a lot of the stuff they pulled up was of the kinda nasty heavy metals variety like Selenium, Mercury, fun shit like that. Couple that with California’s overly draconian environmental laws, and that place has sat idle for the better part of 20 years. Now the geniuses in CA want to put up a ballot initiative which says nuke plants can’t generate any more used fuel until they have a way to ship it off-site. Guess what that means? Shutting down the nuke plants in CA, which means taking away 20 percent of their generation (guess where most of the rest comes from, Einstein?) If they do that, more power to them, although the only thing that’ll really happen it it’ll result in a multi-year court battle that will only be passed on to the CA electric consumers in the form of higher bills, which are already pushing highest in the nation. That’ll mean more businesses move out, more jobs move out, those… Read more »
“That’ll mean more businesses move out, more jobs move out, those left are stuck with shit jobs in low-paying industries, etc…”
In other words, the perfect world according to Obama and the other fuckstick liberals?
Markets react Old, they don’t look ahead or plan for the future. Screw the markets on this one.
Considering the AGW-tards predicted, in the 1970s, a future of ‘global cooling’ that turned out to be 100% wrong… and then the modern AGW-tards and their tard-king AlGore predicted in 2000, a future of ‘global warming’ that turned out to be 100% wrong, I’ll definitely stick with those who work in the markets and plan for the future.
Considering there are plenty of people who have studied the markets and learned to make a lot of money — by planning for the future — for both themselves and for millions of people all across the country for decades (ie those invested in 401(k)s), while AGW-tards have done nothing to help out people anywhere across the globe, let alone the country.
